In the name of God, the Almighty, the Merciful.
Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem
Your companion has not strayed, nor has he erred,
Ma dalla sahibukum wamaghawa
And was at a distance of two bows’ length or nearer,
Fakana qaba qawsayni aw adna
Then He revealed to His servant what He revealed.
Faawha ila AAabdihi maawha
The heart lied not about what it saw.
Ma kathaba alfu-adu maraa
Will you then dispute with him about what he saw?
Afatumaroonahu AAala mayara
And he saw him in another descent,
Walaqad raahu nazlatan okhra
When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered;
Ith yaghsha assidratama yaghsha
The vision did not deviate, nor did it transgress.
Ma zagha albasaru wamatagha
Indeed, he saw of the greatest proofs of his Lord.
Laqad raa min ayatirabbihi alkubra
Have you considered Al-Lāt and Al-ʿUzzā,
Afaraaytumu allata walAAuzza
And Manāt the third, the other?
Wamanata aththalithataal-okhra
Have you the males, and He the females?
Alakumu aththakaru walahual-ontha
They are only names you have named, you and your fathers, for which God sent down no authority. They follow only assumption, and what their souls desire; but there has come to them guidance from their Lord.
In hiya illa asmaonsammaytumooha antum waabaokum maanzala Allahu biha min sultanin inyattabiAAoona illa aththanna wamatahwa al-anfusu walaqad jaahum min rabbihimu alhuda
Then to God belong the Latter and the Former.
Falillahi al-akhiratu wal-oola
And how many an angel is there in the heavens! Their intercession avails nothing save after that God gives leave to whom He wills and is pleased.
Wakam min malakin fee assamawatila tughnee shafaAAatuhum shay-an illa minbaAAdi an ya/thana Allahu liman yashao wayarda
Those who believe not in the Hereafter name the angels with the names of females.
Inna allatheena la yu/minoonabil-akhirati layusammoona almala-ikatatasmiyata al-ontha
But they have no knowledge thereof, they follow only assumption; and assumption avails nothing against the truth.
Wama lahum bihi min AAilmin inyattabiAAoona illa aththanna wa-innaaththanna la yughnee mina alhaqqishay-a
So turn thou away from him who turns away from Our remembrance and desires only the life of this world.
FaaAArid AAan man tawalla AAanthikrina walam yurid illa alhayataaddunya
That is their attainment of knowledge. Thy Lord: He best knows him who strays from His path; and He best knows him who is guided.
Thalika mablaghuhum mina alAAilmiinna rabbaka huwa aAAlamu biman dalla AAan sabeelihiwahuwa aAAlamu bimani ihtada
And to God belongs what is in the heavens and what is in the earth, that He might reward those who do evil with what they have done, and reward those who do good with the best —
Walillahi ma fee assamawatiwama fee al-ardi liyajziya allatheena asaoobima AAamiloo wayajziya allatheena ahsanoobilhusna
Those who avoid the enormities of sin and sexual immoralities save slight mistakes — thy Lord is vast in forgiveness. He best knew you when He produced you from the earth, and when you were foetuses in the wombs of your mothers; then hold not yourselves to be pure; He best knows those of prudent fear.
Allatheena yajtaniboona kaba-iraal-ithmi walfawahisha illa allamama innarabbaka wasiAAu almaghfirati huwa aAAlamu bikum ithanshaakum mina al-ardi wa-ith antum ajinnatun feebutooni ommahatikum fala tuzakkoo anfusakumhuwa aAAlamu bimani ittaqa
Hast thou then considered him who turned away
Afaraayta allathee tawalla
Does he possess knowledge of the Unseen, so he sees?
aAAindahu AAilmu alghaybi fahuwa yara
If he has not been informed of what is in the scriptures of Moses,
Am lam yunabba/ bima fee suhufimoosa
And of Abraham who discharged in full:
Wa-ibraheema allathee waffa
That no bearer of burdens bears the burden of another,
Alla taziru waziratun wizraokhra
And that man has not save that for which he strove,
Waan laysa lil-insani illa masaAAa
— Then will he be rewarded with the fullest reward —
Thumma yujzahu aljazaa al-awfa
And that to thy Lord is the Finality,
Waanna ila rabbika almuntaha
And that it is He who makes laugh, and makes weep,
Waannahu huwa adhaka waabka
And that it is He who gives death, and gives life,
Waannahu huwa amata waahya
And that He created the two kinds — the male and the female —
Waannahu khalaqa azzawjayni aththakarawal-ontha
And that upon Him is the next creation,
Waanna AAalayhi annash-ata al-okhra
And that it is He who makes free from need and causes to possess,
Waannahu huwa aghna waaqna
And that it is He who is the Lord of Sirius,
Waannahu huwa rabbu ashshiAAra
And that He destroyed the former ʿĀd,
Waannahu ahlaka AAadan al-oola
And the people of Noah before — they were worse in wrongdoing, and worse in transgression —
Waqawma noohin min qablu innahum kanoohum athlama waatgha
Then which of the blessings of thy Lord dost thou dispute?
Fabi-ayyi ala-i rabbika tatamara
This is a warner like the former warners.
Hatha natheerun mina annuthurial-oola
There is none, besides God, to remove it.
Laysa laha min dooni Allahi kashifat
Do you then marvel at this narrative,
Afamin hatha alhadeethitaAAjaboon
