“Hast thou not seen…”
أَلَمْ تَرَ
alam tara, hast thou not seen

“Hast thou not seen…”

The word تَرَ (tara), “thou seest”, occurs in 31 verses and never once on its own. Every occurrence follows alam, “hast thou not”, which makes all 31 the same question, put to one person.

What the question points at falls into three kinds. People: those who left their homes in their thousands (2:243), the man who argued with Abraham about his Lord (2:258), those given a portion of the Book (3:23, 4:44, 4:51), the hypocrites talking to their brothers (59:11). The world: water sent down from the sky (22:63, 35:27, 39:21), clouds driven and then joined together (24:43), night entering the day (31:29), ships running on the sea (31:31), the shadow being drawn out (25:45). And twice, history: how thy Lord dealt with ʿĀd (89:6), and with the companions of the elephant (105:1).

None of them asks for information. The form is a way of pointing, and what follows is always the thing pointed at.

How this list was made
Every verse containing the word تَرَ (tara), in muṣḥaf order. The word occurs in the Qur'an only after أَلَمْ (alam), so every verse in the list carries the same question.
Every verse the rule matches is in the list.
Al-Baqarah2:243

Hast thou not considered those who went forth from their habitations in their thousands, fearing death? And God said to them: “Die”; then gave He them life. God is bountiful to mankind, but most men are not grateful.

Hast thou not considered the eminent ones of the children of Israel after Moses? When they said to a prophet of theirs: “Raise thou up for us a king; we will fight in the cause of God,” he said: “Would you, if fighting be prescribed for you, not fight?” They said: “And why should we not fight in the cause of God when we have been turned out of our homes, and our children?” But when fighting was prescribed for them, they turned away save a few of them. And God knows the wrongdoers.

Hast thou not considered the one who disputed with Abraham concerning his Lord because God had given him dominion? When Abraham said: “My Lord is He who gives life, and gives death,” he said: “I give life, and I give death.” Abraham said: “God brings the sun from the East; so bring thou it from the West.” Then was the one who ignored warning lost for words; and God guides not the wrongdoing people.

Oh, that Thou wouldst but delay us a little while!” Say thou: “Little is the enjoyment of the World”; and the Hereafter is better for him who is in prudent fear; and you will not be wronged a hair upon a date-stone.
