So, do the people of the towns feel themselves immune from Our punishment that may befall them at night while they are asleep?
a disaster from your Lord struck the garden as they slept
Had We willed, We could have easily imposed guidance on every soul. But My Word will come to pass: I will surely fill up Hell with jinn and humans all together.
We had indicated to Ibrahim (Abraham) the site where he would build the Sacrosanct House and We instructed him thus: "Do not incorporate with Me other deities", "and cleanse My House from moral and spiritual defilements -idols and the like, placed by the Pagans- and impart to it real sacredness, and make it ceremonially clean for those who go round it in procession and for those who perform the act of worship standing and for those who kneel in supplication and prostrate to make an act of the mind and the will in acknowledgement of Allah's Omnipotence, Perfection and Authority prostrating their reason to divine revelation".
if it had been Our will, We could have used these signs to raise him high, but instead he clung to the earth and followed his own desires- he was like a dog that pants with a lolling tongue whether you drive it away or leave it alone. Such is the image of those who reject Our signs. Tell them the story so that they may reflect.
Their Messengers said to them: "But we are only mortals like you and Allah imparts His grace to those of His worshippers whom He chooses as He will, and it is not for us nor is it within our power to present you with the evidence but with Allah's delegated power and authorization. And in Allah do those whose hearts have been touched with the divine hand put their trust."
And on the Day when He will call them and say, "Where are My partners which you imagined?"
Say to them –the people- "If the vast body of water on the surface of the globe were ink serving the purpose of committing my Creator's words to writing, sooner would the vast body of water -now ink- be exhausted than would the words of my Creator even if we make this immense expanse twice as much".
Among those who have become Jews there are some who alter the words from their context, and make a malicious play with their tongues and seek to revile the true faith. They say: 'We have heard and we disobey' (sami'na wa 'asayna), 'Do hear us, may you turn dumb' (isma' ghayr musma') and 'Hearken to us' (ra'ina). It would indeed have been better for them and more upright if they had said: 'We have heard and we obey' (sami'na wa ata'na) and: 'Do listen to us, and look at us (with kindness)' (wa isma' wa unzurna). But Allah has cursed them because of their disbelief. Scarcely do they believe.
One of them said, "Behold, this my brother has ninety nine farms, whereas I have only one. And yet he says, 'Give it over to me', and he dominates me in eloquence." ('Na'jah' = Ewe = Female sheep or deer = Agricultural farm).
And strive in His cause like you should strive, (with devotion and dedication). He has chosen you, and has made no hardships for you in (your) religion; It is the religion of your father Ibrahim (Abraham). It is He Who has named you Muslims, both before and in this (Revelation, the Quran); So that the Messenger (Muhammad) may be a witness for you, and you be a witness for mankind! So perform regular Prayer, give regular Charity, and hold strongly to Allah! He is your Protector (Maulâ)— Best to protect (An-Na’um), Best to help (An-Naseer) !
with it We produced for you gardens of date palms and vines, with many fruits there for you to eat,
What will they do when We bring a witness from each community, with you as a witness against these people?
They said, ‘We wish to eat from it; to have our hearts reassured; to know that you have told us the truth; and to be witnesses of it.’
We have created many jinn and people who are destined for Hell, with hearts they do not use for comprehension, eyes they do not use for sight, ears they do not use for hearing. They are like cattle, no, even further astray: these are the ones who are entirely heedless.
We settled the Children of Israel in a good place and provided good things as sustenance for them. It was only after knowledge had come to them that they began to differ among themselves. Your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection regarding their differences.
Do they not see how We come to land and shrink its borders? God decides- no one can reverse His decision- and He is swift in reckoning.
If We pleased, We could take away what We have revealed to you- then you would find no one to plead for you against Us-
We have allowed these sinners and their forefathers to enjoy life for a long time. But do they not see how We are shrinking their borders? Is it they who will prevail?
Then We raised another generation after them,
We raised other generations after them-
If it had been Our will, We would have sent a warner to every town,
Any revelation We cause to be superseded or forgotten, We replace with something better or similar. Do you not know that God has power over everything?
They said, ‘By God! You must know that we did not come to make mischief in your land: we are no thieves.’
How many communities of evildoers We have destroyed! How many others We have raised up in their places!
Yet We created them; We strengthened their constitution; if We please, We can replace such people completely.
Then, when they presented themselves before Joseph, they said, ‘Mighty governor, misfortune has afflicted us and our family. We have brought only a little merchandise, but give us full measure. Be charitable to us: God rewards the charitable.’
The day will come when We raise up in each community a witness against them, and We shall bring you as a witness against these people, for We have sent the Scripture down to you explaining everything, and as guidance and mercy and good news to those who devote themselves to God.
After his death, We told the Children of Israel, ‘Live in the land, and when the promise of the Hereafter is fulfilled, We shall bring you to the assembly of all people.’
Do they not realize how many generations We destroyed before them? We established them in the earth more firmly than you, sent down abundant rain on them from the sky and made running rivers flow at their feet, yet We destroyed them for their misdeeds and raised other generations after them.
