49. Surah Al-Hujurat
The Inner Apartments

In the name of God, the Almighty, the Merciful.

Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

O you who heed warning: be not forward before God and His messenger, but be in prudent fear of God; God is hearing and knowing.

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoola tuqaddimoo bayna yadayi Allahi warasoolihi wattaqooAllaha inna Allaha sameeAAun AAaleem

O you who heed warning: raise not your voices above the voice of the Prophet, nor be loud in speech to him, as you are loud one to another lest your works be made vain while you perceive not.

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoola tarfaAAoo aswatakum fawqa sawti annabiyyiwala tajharoo lahu bilqawli kajahri baAAdikumlibaAAdin an tahbata aAAmalukumwaantum la tashAAuroon

Those who lower their voices in the presence of the messenger of God, those are they whose hearts God has tested for prudent fear; they have forgiveness and a great reward.

Inna allatheena yaghuddoona aswatahumAAinda rasooli Allahi ola-ika allatheenaimtahana Allahu quloobahum littaqwalahum maghfiratun waajrun AAatheem

Those who call to thee from behind the chambers, most of them do not reason.

Inna allatheena yunadoonaka minwara-i alhujurati aktharuhum layaAAqiloon

And had they been patient until thou camest forth to them, it would have been better for them; but God is forgiving and merciful.

Walaw annahum sabaroo hattatakhruja ilayhim lakana khayran lahum wallahughafoorun raheem

O you who heed warning: if one perfidious comes to you with a report: verify, lest you strike a people in ignorance, and become remorseful for what you did.

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooin jaakum fasiqun binaba-in fatabayyanoo an tuseebooqawman bijahalatin fatusbihoo AAala mafaAAaltum nadimeen

And know that among you is the messenger of God. If he were to obey you in much of the matter, you would be distressed. But God has endeared to you faith, and made it fair in your hearts, and has made hateful to you denial and perfidy and opposition — it is they who are the right-minded —

WaAAlamoo anna feekum rasoola Allahilaw yuteeAAukum fee katheerin mina al-amri laAAanittum walakinnaAllaha habbaba ilaykumu al-eemanawazayyanahu fee quloobikum wakarraha ilaykumu alkufra walfusooqawalAAisyana ola-ika humu arrashidoon

As bounty and favour from God; and God is knowing and wise.

Fadlan mina Allahi waniAAmatanwallahu AAaleemun hakeem

And if two groups of the believers fight: make right between them; and if one of them oppress the other: fight that which oppresses until it returns to the command of God. And if it returns, then make right between them with justice; and be equitable; God loves the equitable.

Wa-in ta-ifatani minaalmu/mineena iqtataloo faaslihoo baynahumafa-in baghat ihdahuma AAala al-okhrafaqatiloo allatee tabghee hatta tafee-a ilaamri Allahi fa-in faat faaslihoobaynahuma bilAAadli waaqsitoo inna Allahayuhibbu almuqsiteen

The believers are brethren, so make right between your two brothers; and be in prudent fear of God, that you might obtain mercy.

Innama almu/minoona ikhwatun faaslihoobayna akhawaykum wattaqoo Allaha laAAallakum turhamoon

O you who heed warning: let not a people deride another people — it may be that they are better than they; neither women other women — it may be that they are better than they; neither speak ill of yourselves, nor insult one another with nicknames. Bad is the name of perfidy after faith. And whoso turns not in repentance, it is they who are the wrongdoers.

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoola yaskhar qawmun min qawmin AAasa an yakoonookhayran minhum wala nisaon min nisa-in AAasaan yakunna khayran minhunna wala talmizoo anfusakum walatanabazoo bil-alqabi bi/sa al-ismualfusooqu baAAda al-eemani waman lam yatub faola-ikahumu aththalimoon

O you who heed warning: avoid much assumption; some assumption is sin. And spy not; neither backbite one another. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would detest it. And be in prudent fear of God; God is accepting of repentance and merciful.

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooijtaniboo katheeran mina aththanni innabaAAda aththanni ithmun walatajassasoo wala yaghtab baAAdukum baAAdanayuhibbu ahadukum an ya/kula lahma akheehimaytan fakarihtumoohu wattaqoo Allaha inna Allahatawwabun raheem

O mankind: We have created you from a male and a female, and have made you nations and tribes that you might know one another. The most noble of you in the sight of God is he of you most in prudent fear; God is knowing and aware.

Ya ayyuha annasuinna khalaqnakum min thakarin waonthawajaAAalnakum shuAAooban waqaba-ila litaAAarafooinna akramakum AAinda Allahi atqakum inna AllahaAAaleemun khabeer

The desert Arabs say: “We believe.” Say thou: “You have not believed; but say: ‘We have submitted,’ for faith has not entered into your hearts.” But if you obey God and His messenger, He will not defraud you of anything of your deeds; God is forgiving and merciful.

Qalati al-aAArabu amannaqul lam tu/minoo walakin qooloo aslamna walammayadkhuli al-eemanu fee quloobikum wa-in tuteeAAooAllaha warasoolahu la yalitkum min aAAmalikumshay-an inna Allaha ghafoorun raheem

The believers are but those who believe in God and His messenger, then doubt not, and strive with their wealth and their lives in the cause of God — it is they who are the truthful.

Innama almu/minoona allatheenaamanoo billahi warasoolihi thumma lam yartaboowajahadoo bi-amwalihim waanfusihim fee sabeeli Allahiola-ika humu assadiqoon

Say thou: “Would you teach God your doctrine, when God knows what is in the heavens and what is in the earth?” And God knows all things.

Qul atuAAallimoona Allaha bideenikumwallahu yaAAlamu ma fee assamawatiwama fee al-ardi wallahu bikullishay-in AAaleem

They think it a favour to thee that they have submitted. Say thou: “Think not your submission a favour to me. The truth is, God has bestowed favour upon you that He has guided you to faith, if you be truthful.”

Yamunnoona AAalayka an aslamoo qul latamunnoo AAalayya islamakum bali Allahu yamunnuAAalaykum an hadakum lil-eemani in kuntum sadiqeen

God knows the unseen of the heavens and the earth; and God sees what you do.

Inna Allaha yaAAlamu ghayba assamawatiwal-ardi wallahu baseerunbima taAAmaloon
