He it is that turned out those who ignore warning among the doctors of the Law from their homes at the first gathering. You did not think that they would go forth, and they thought that their strongholds would protect them from God; but God came upon them whence they reckoned not, and He hurled terror into their hearts; they ruined their houses with their hands and the hands of the believers. So learn a lesson, O you who have vision!

Then Allah came upon them from where they least expected it and cast terror into their hearts. Their houses were pulled down by their own hands and by the hands of the muminun. People of insight, take note!

It is He Who drove those who denied Him among Ahl AL-Kitab (the People of the Book) out of their homes at the beginning of the thronging for the battle. You yourselves, O Muslims, did not think they would go out of their fortresses nor did they themselves think that their fortresses were penetrable to any hostile action, not to mention that contemptible notion of being proof against Allah. But Allah reduced them to impotence in His own manner which they never expected and He inspired terror in their hearts so that as they had tried to ruin the whole tower of Faith, they perfected their own ruin. They demolished their own homes and reduced their own property into a useless from by their own hands and the hands of the believers. So take heed you people of sight and can lift to Allah their inward sight.
God is the one Who made the disbeliever Jews to leave their house at your first show of force with them. They were thinking that their show of force will bring them the victory; however, God’s force came from where they did not expect and put such a terror in their hearts that they themselves destroyed their own houses. May this event be a lesson for those who possess eyes and see the power of their Lord in action.
He it is Who drove out the disbelievers among the people of the Scripture (i.e. the Jews of the tribe of Banû An-Nadîr) from their homes at the first gathering. You did not think that they would get out. And they thought that their fortresses would defend them from Allâh! But Allâh’s (Torment) reached them from a place whereof they expected it not, and He cast terror into their hearts so that they destroyed their own dwellings with their own hands and the hands of the believers. Then take admonition, O you with eyes (to see).

You never thought that they would quit, while they (themselves) thought that their strongholds would defend them against (the judgment of) Allâh. He struck their hearts with terror so that they demolished their houses (partly) with their own hands and (what remained of them was being destroyed) at the hands of the believers. So take warning from them O you who have insight!
