Has not the report reached you of those before you: — the people of Noah, and ʿĀd, and Thamūd, and those after them? None knows them save God. Their Messengers brought them clear and plain revelations guiding out of darkness and superstitions of later times and out of want of spiritual and intellectual sight into illumination and enlightenment but they drew their hands across their lips to menace with their mouths their refusal to accept the divine message and said: "We flatly deny the truth of your mission and we are in doubt of the system of faith which you invite us to follow. It excites suspicion."
Have you not heard about the previous nations (such as the people of Noah, Aad, Thamood, and the others who followed them?) There were also other nations (such as Mayas, Incas, etc. ) that only God knows their full history. All those nations were blessed with Prophets who had undeniable miracles in support of their prophet hood. But when they conveyed the Message, people put their fingers in their mouth (the utmost sign of disrespect, as though they were vomiting) and said: "We disbelieve in your miracles and doubt about the way of life that you are inviting us to."
Has not the news reached you, of those before you, the people of Nûh (Noah), and ‘Âd, and Thamûd? And those after them? None knows them but Allâh. Their apostles brought them manifest proofs, but they did not respond to them, and said, ‘We disbelieve in what you have been sent with.
