And there were in the city nine men who wrought corruption in the land and did not right.

Among the leaders in Saleh’s town were nine men whose wickedness exceeded all limits and reached an irreversible degree, they flourished at spreading mischief in the land and at creating discord.

They said, "We auger evil of you and those who are with you. Said he, "Your augury is in Allah's hands; nay, but you are a people who are being tested."
And (there) was in the city nine (men of) a clan who corrupted in the land and did not act righteously.
And there were nine men in the city, who acted corruptly in the earth, and behaved not with integrity.
And in the City, there were Nine men of a family, who made mischief in the land, and would not correct (themselves).
And there were in the city a gang of nine (persons) who had upset the order and peace in the country and would not reform (themselves).
