Sam Gerrans - The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation

If you think that you will enter the Garden when there has not come to you the like of those who passed away before you: affliction and adversity touched them, and they were shaken until the Messenger and those who heeded warning with him said: “When is the help of God?” In truth, the help of God is near.

اَمْ حَسِبْتُمْ اَنْ تَدْخُلُوا الْجَنَّةَ وَلَمَّا يَأْتِكُمْ مَثَلُ الَّذ۪ينَ خَلَوْا مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْۜ مَسَّتْهُمُ الْبَأْسَٓاءُ وَالضَّرَّٓاءُ وَزُلْزِلُوا حَتّٰى يَقُولَ الرَّسُولُ وَالَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا مَعَهُ مَتٰى نَصْرُ اللّٰهِۜ اَلَٓا اِنَّ نَصْرَ اللّٰهِ قَر۪يبٌ
Am hasibtum an tadkhuloo aljannatawalamma ya/tikum mathalu allatheena khalaw minqablikum massat-humu alba/sao waddarraowazulziloo hatta yaqoola arrasoolu wallatheenaamanoo maAAahu mata nasru Allahi alainna nasra Allahi qareeb

    Or did you suppose that you would enter the Garden without facing the same as those who came before you? Poverty and illness afflicted them and they were shaken to the point that the Messenger and those who had iman with him said, ‘When is Allah’s help coming?’ Be assured that Allah’s help is very near.
