That He might question the truthful about their truthfulness; and He has prepared for the false claimers of guidance a painful punishment.
so that He would be able to question the sadiqun about their sincerity; and He has prepared a painful punishment for the kafirun.
So that the truthful may be asked about their truthfulness, and He has prepared for the rejecters a painful retribution.
That he might assign responsibility only to the truthful. And to warn that He has readied grievous suffering for the rejecters.

(It was) so that God may ask the truthful of their sincerity. As for the infidels, He has prepared a painful punishment for them.

So that He questions in Day of Judgement the men of truth the Prophets, who were entrusted with His message and their peoples' response! Meantime He has put in readiness for the infidels a punishment which shall vex them with great physical and mental suffering.
So that the Lord may test the truthfulness of the believers and sentence the disbelievers to a painful punishment for their disobedience.
That He may ask the truthful (Allâh’s Messengers and His Prophets) about their truth (i.e. the conveyance of Allâh’s Message that which they were charged with). And He has prepared for the disbelievers a painful torment (Hell-fire).
That (Allah) may question the (custodians) of Truth concerning the Truth they (were charged with): And He has prepared for the Unbelievers a grievous Penalty.

And when We made a covenant with the prophets and with you (Muhammad), and with Noah and Abraham and Moses and Jesus, son of Mary, We made with them a strong (solemn) covenant,
That He might ask the sincere of their sincerity; and He has prepared for the disbelievers a painful torment.
that God may examine the speakers of truth concerning their veracity: And He hath prepared a painful torment for the unbelievers.
That (Allah) may question the truthful ones about the Truth they (were to protect). And for the unbelievers, He has prepared a painful penalty.
(The Lord did it) so that He may let the truthful give expression to their truthfulness (-whether they were true to their covenant). And (whereas He will reward the true believers); He has in store a woeful punishment for the disbelievers.
