96. Surah Al-'Alaq, Verse 7

seeing himself as self-sufficient.

When he achieves, he has no need.

(And) in that he looks upon himself as self-sufficient. (Forgetting how indebted he is to the Creator and the society for all his mental and physical possessions).

That he considers himself self-sufficient.

When he achieves, he no longer has need!

When he becomes rich.

For he thinks he is sufficient in himself.

Because he sees himself self-sufficient.

whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient:

That he thinketh himself independent!

for he believes himself to be self-sufficient.*

He believes he is independent and not contingent or conditioned by anything else.

… thinks that he is not in need of his Lord and that he has power to do everything.

Because he considers himself self-sufficient.

In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient.

once they think they are self-sufficient.

because he deems himself to be free of need.

when he thinks he is self-sufficient:

for he thinks himself self-sufficient.

at seeing himself get rich!

In that he thinks himself independent (or self-sufficient or rich)!

That he sees himself becoming self-sufficient.

because he seeth himself abound in riches.

And he considers himself as self-sufficient.

Because he thinks himself to be independent (of God).

when he considers himself without need.
