The word qurʾān means recitation, and 75:17 still uses it that way: upon Us is its gathering and its recitation. Everywhere else it has become a name, and the 68 verses that carry it are the book describing itself.

It says it was sent down in Arabic so that it might be understood (12:2, 20:113, 39:28, 41:3, 42:7, 43:3). It says it guides to what is most upright (17:9) and that it is a healing (17:82). It says it has been made easy for remembrance, and says it four times in one sūra (54:17, 54:22, 54:32, 54:40). It says a mountain would have split apart had it come down on one (59:21), that nobody could produce its like (17:88), and that the jinn stopped to listen to it (46:29, 72:1).

It also keeps the objections. Bring us a different recitation, or change this one (10:15). Why was it not sent down all at once (25:32). Why was it not sent to some great man of the two cities (43:31). And it records a complaint made about its own readers: “My Lord, my people have taken this Qur'an as a thing abandoned” (25:30).

## How this list was made

Every verse containing قُرْآن (qurʾān) in any of its inflected forms, in muṣḥaf order.

**Set aside, where the word is not used in this sense:**

- **17:78** “…and the recitation at dawn”. Here the word names an act performed at a time of day, not the book.

### Al-Baqarah 2:185

**Arabic:** شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ الَّذ۪ٓي اُنْزِلَ ف۪يهِ الْقُرْاٰنُ هُدًى لِلنَّاسِ وَبَيِّنَاتٍ مِنَ الْهُدٰى وَالْفُرْقَانِۚ فَمَنْ شَهِدَ مِنْكُمُ الشَّهْرَ فَلْيَصُمْهُۜ وَمَنْ كَانَ مَر۪يضاً اَوْ عَلٰى سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ مِنْ اَيَّامٍ اُخَرَۜ يُر۪يدُ اللّٰهُ بِكُمُ الْيُسْرَ وَلَا يُر۪يدُ بِكُمُ الْعُسْرَۘ وَلِتُكْمِلُوا الْعِدَّةَ وَلِتُكَبِّرُوا اللّٰهَ عَلٰى مَا هَدٰيكُمْ وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ

**Transcription:** Shahru ramadana allatheeonzila feehi alqur-anu hudan linnasiwabayyinatin mina alhuda walfurqanifaman shahida minkumu ashshahra falyasumhu waman kanamareedan aw AAala safarin faAAiddatun min ayyaminokhara yureedu Allahu bikumu alyusra wala yureedubikumu alAAusra walitukmiloo alAAiddata walitukabbiroo AllahaAAala ma hadakum walaAAallakum tashkuroon

A moon of scorching heat was that in which the Qur’an was sent down, a guidance for mankind, and clear signs of the guidance and the Division[...]. So whoso among you witnesses the moon, let him fast in it. And whoso of you is sick or on a journey: then a number of other days. God desires for you ease, and He desires not for you hardship; but that you complete the number; and that you magnify God for guiding you; and that you might be grateful.

### An-Nisa 4:82

**Arabic:** اَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ الْقُرْاٰنَۜ وَلَوْ كَانَ مِنْ عِنْدِ غَيْرِ اللّٰهِ لَوَجَدُوا ف۪يهِ اخْتِلَافاً كَث۪يراً

**Transcription:** Afala yatadabbaroona alqur-anawalaw kana min AAindi ghayri Allahi lawajadoo feehiikhtilafan katheera

(Will they then not consider the Qur’an with care! And had it been from other than God, they would have found therein much contradiction.)

**Arabic:** يَٓا اَيُّهَا الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا لَا تَسْـَٔلُوا عَنْ اَشْيَٓاءَ اِنْ تُبْدَ لَكُمْ تَسُؤْكُمْۚ وَاِنْ تَسْـَٔلُوا عَنْهَا ح۪ينَ يُنَزَّلُ الْقُرْاٰنُ تُبْدَ لَكُمْۜ عَفَا اللّٰهُ عَنْهَاۜ وَاللّٰهُ غَفُورٌ حَل۪يمٌ

**Transcription:** Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoola tas-aloo AAan ashyaa in tubda lakum tasu/kumwa-in tas-aloo AAanha heena yunazzalu alqur-anutubda lakum AAafa Allahu AAanha wallahughafoorun haleem

O you who heed warning: ask not about things which, if made clear to you, would distress you; but if you ask about them while the Qur’an is being sent down, they will be made clear to you. God has pardoned that; and God is forgiving and clement.

**Arabic:** قُلْ اَيُّ شَيْءٍ اَكْبَرُ شَهَادَةًۜ  قُلِ اللّٰهُ شَه۪يدٌ بَيْن۪ي وَبَيْنَكُمْ وَاُو۫حِيَ اِلَيَّ هٰذَا الْقُرْاٰنُ لِاُنْذِرَكُمْ بِه۪ وَمَنْ بَلَغَۜ  اَئِنَّكُمْ لَتَشْهَدُونَ اَنَّ مَعَ اللّٰهِ اٰلِهَةً اُخْرٰىۜ قُلْ لَٓا اَشْهَدُۚ قُلْ اِنَّمَا هُوَ اِلٰهٌ وَاحِدٌ وَاِنَّن۪ي بَر۪ٓيءٌ مِمَّا تُشْرِكُونَۢ

**Transcription:** Qul ayyu shay-in akbaru shahadatanquli Allahu shaheedun baynee wabaynakum waoohiyailayya hatha alqur-anu li-onthirakum bihiwaman balagha a-innakum latashhadoona anna maAAa Allahi alihatanokhra qul la ashhadu qul innama huwa ilahunwahidun wa-innanee baree-on mimma tushrikoon

Say thou: “What thing is greatest in witness?” Say thou: “God is witness between me and you; and this Qur’an has been revealed to me that I might warn you thereby, and whom it reaches. Do you bear witness that there are other gods with God?” Say thou: “I bear not witness.” Say thou: “He is but One God, and I am quit of that to which you ascribe a partnership.”

**Transcription:** Wa-itha quri-a alqur-anu fastamiAAoolahu waansitoo laAAallakum turhamoon

And when the Qur’an is recited: heed it and listen attentively, that you might obtain mercy.

**Arabic:** اِنَّ اللّٰهَ اشْتَرٰى مِنَ الْمُؤْمِن۪ينَ اَنْفُسَهُمْ وَاَمْوَالَهُمْ بِاَنَّ لَهُمُ الْجَنَّةَۜ يُقَاتِلُونَ ف۪ي سَب۪يلِ اللّٰهِ فَيَقْتُلُونَ وَيُقْتَلُونَ وَعْداً عَلَيْهِ حَقاًّ فِي التَّوْرٰيةِ وَالْاِنْج۪يلِ وَالْقُرْاٰنِۜ وَمَنْ اَوْفٰى بِعَهْدِه۪ مِنَ اللّٰهِ فَاسْتَبْشِرُوا بِبَيْعِكُمُ الَّذ۪ي بَايَعْتُمْ بِه۪ۜ وَذٰلِكَ هُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظ۪يمُ

**Transcription:** Inna Allaha ishtara minaalmu/mineena anfusahum waamwalahum bi-anna lahumualjannata yuqatiloona fee sabeeli Allahifayaqtuloona wayuqtaloona waAAdan AAalayhi haqqan fee attawratiwal-injeeli walqur-ani waman awfabiAAahdihi mina Allahi fastabshiroo bibayAAikumuallathee bayaAAtum bihi wathalika huwaalfawzu alAAatheem

God has bought from the believers their lives and their wealth; for that the Garden is theirs — they fighting in the cause of God, killing and being killed — a promise binding upon Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur’an. And who better fulfils his covenant than God? Rejoice then in your bargain that you have contracted with Him; and that is the Great Achievement.

### Yunus 10:15

**Arabic:** وَاِذَا تُتْلٰى عَلَيْهِمْ اٰيَاتُنَا بَيِّنَاتٍۙ قَالَ الَّذ۪ينَ لَا يَرْجُونَ لِقَٓاءَنَا ائْتِ بِقُرْاٰنٍ غَيْرِ هٰذَٓا اَوْ بَدِّلْهُۜ قُلْ مَا يَكُونُ ل۪ٓي اَنْ اُبَدِّلَهُ مِنْ تِلْقَٓائِ۬ نَفْس۪يۚ اِنْ اَتَّبِعُ اِلَّا مَا يُوحٰٓى اِلَيَّۚ اِنّ۪ٓي اَخَافُ اِنْ عَصَيْتُ رَبّ۪ي عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظ۪يمٍ

**Transcription:** Wa-itha tutla AAalayhim ayatunabayyinatin qala allatheena layarjoona liqaana i/ti biqur-anin ghayri hathaaw baddilhu qul ma yakoonu lee an obaddilahu min tilqa-inafsee in attabiAAu illa ma yooha ilayyainnee akhafu in AAasaytu rabbee AAathabayawmin AAatheem

And when Our proofs are recited to them as clear signs, those who look not for the meeting with Us say: “Bring thou a Qur’an other than this; or change thou it.” Say thou: “It is not for me to change it of my own accord. I follow only what is revealed to me. I fear, if I should disobey my Lord, the punishment of a tremendous day.”

### Yunus 10:37

**Arabic:** وَمَا كَانَ هٰذَا الْقُرْاٰنُ اَنْ يُفْتَرٰى مِنْ دُونِ اللّٰهِ وَلٰكِنْ تَصْد۪يقَ الَّذ۪ي بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَتَفْص۪يلَ الْكِتَابِ لَا رَيْبَ ف۪يهِ مِنْ رَبِّ الْعَالَم۪ينَ۠

**Transcription:** Wama kana hatha alqur-anuan yuftara min dooni Allahi walakin tasdeeqaallathee bayna yadayhi watafseela alkitabi larayba feehi min rabbi alAAalameen

And this Qur’an is not such as could be invented by other than God; but it is a confirmation of what is before it, and an exposition of the Writ about which there is no doubt, from the Lord of All Creation.

### Yunus 10:61

**Arabic:** وَمَا تَكُونُ ف۪ي شَأْنٍ وَمَا تَتْلُوا مِنْهُ مِنْ قُرْاٰنٍ وَلَا تَعْمَلُونَ مِنْ عَمَلٍ اِلَّا كُنَّا عَلَيْكُمْ شُهُوداً اِذْ تُف۪يضُونَ ف۪يهِۜ وَمَا يَعْزُبُ عَنْ رَبِّكَ مِنْ مِثْقَالِ ذَرَّةٍ فِي الْاَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَٓاءِ وَلَٓا اَصْغَرَ مِنْ ذٰلِكَ وَلَٓا اَكْبَرَ اِلَّا ف۪ي كِتَابٍ مُب۪ينٍ

**Transcription:** Wama takoonu fee sha/nin wamatatloo minhu min qur-anin wala taAAmaloona minAAamalin illa kunna AAalaykum shuhoodan ithtufeedoona feehi wama yaAAzubu AAan rabbika minmithqali tharratin fee al-ardi walafee assama-i wala asghara min thalikawala akbara illa fee kitabin mubeen

And thou art not in any matter, and thou recitest not from it any recital, and you do no deed save that We are over you witnesses when you are engaged therein; and there does not escape thy Lord the weight of an atom in the earth or in the heaven. Whether less than that, or greater, it is in a clear writ.

### Yusuf 12:2

**Transcription:** Inna anzalnahu qur-ananAAarabiyyan laAAallakum taAAqiloon

We have sent it down as an Arabic recitation, that you might use reason.

### Yusuf 12:3

**Arabic:** نَحْنُ نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ اَحْسَنَ الْقَصَصِ بِمَٓا اَوْحَيْنَٓا اِلَيْكَ هٰذَا الْقُرْاٰنَۗ وَاِنْ كُنْتَ مِنْ قَبْلِه۪ لَمِنَ الْغَافِل۪ينَ

**Transcription:** Nahnu naqussu AAalayka ahsanaalqasasi bima awhayna ilayka hathaalqur-ana wa-in kunta min qablihi lamina alghafileen

We relate to thee the best of stories in what We have revealed to thee of this Qur’an, though thou wast before it among those unaware.

### Ar-Ra'd 13:31

**Arabic:** وَلَوْ اَنَّ قُرْاٰناً سُيِّرَتْ بِهِ الْجِبَالُ اَوْ قُطِّعَتْ بِهِ الْاَرْضُ اَوْ كُلِّمَ بِهِ الْمَوْتٰىۜ بَلْ لِلّٰهِ الْاَمْرُ جَم۪يعاًۜ اَفَلَمْ يَايْـَٔسِ الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُٓوا اَنْ لَوْ يَشَٓاءُ اللّٰهُ لَهَدَى النَّاسَ جَم۪يعاًۜ وَلَا يَزَالُ الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُوا تُص۪يبُهُمْ بِمَا صَنَعُوا قَارِعَةٌ اَوْ تَحُلُّ قَر۪يباً مِنْ دَارِهِمْ حَتّٰى يَأْتِيَ وَعْدُ اللّٰهِۜ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يُخْلِفُ الْم۪يعَادَ۟

**Transcription:** Walaw anna qur-anan suyyirat bihialjibalu aw quttiAAat bihi al-ardu awkullima bihi almawta bal lillahi al-amru jameeAAanafalam yay-asi allatheena amanoo an law yashaoAllahu lahada annasa jameeAAan walayazalu allatheena kafaroo tuseebuhum bimasanaAAoo qariAAatun aw tahullu qareeban mindarihim hatta ya/tiya waAAdu Allahiinna Allaha la yukhlifu almeeAAad

And were there a recitation whereby the mountains were set in motion, or the earth rent asunder, or the dead caused to speak[...]. The truth is, to God belongs the command altogether. Have not those who heed warning despaired that, had God willed, He would have guided mankind all together? And those who ignore warning: disaster will cease not to strike them for what they have wrought, or to descend near their abodes, until the promise of God comes; God will not break the appointment.

### Al-Hijr 15:1

**Transcription:** Alif-lam-ra tilka ayatualkitabi waqur-anin mubeen

alif lām rā Those are the proofs of the Writ and of a clear recitation.

### Al-Hijr 15:87

**Transcription:** Walaqad ataynaka sabAAan minaalmathanee walqur-ana alAAatheem

And We have given thee seven of the oft-paired, and the tremendous Qur’an.

**Transcription:** Allatheena jaAAaloo alqur-anaAAideen

Who have made the Qur’an into parts.

### An-Nahl 16:98

**Arabic:** فَاِذَا قَرَأْتَ الْقُرْاٰنَ فَاسْتَعِذْ بِاللّٰهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّج۪يمِ

**Transcription:** Fa-itha qara/ta alqur-ana fastaAAithbillahi mina ashshaytani arrajeem

And when thou recitest the Qur’an, seek thou refuge in God from the accursed satan

### Al-Isra 17:9

**Arabic:** اِنَّ هٰذَا الْقُرْاٰنَ يَهْد۪ي لِلَّت۪ي هِيَ اَقْوَمُ وَيُبَشِّرُ الْمُؤْمِن۪ينَ الَّذ۪ينَ يَعْمَلُونَ الصَّالِحَاتِ اَنَّ لَهُمْ اَجْراً كَب۪يراًۙ

**Transcription:** Inna hatha alqur-ana yahdeelillatee hiya aqwamu wayubashshiru almu/mineena allatheenayaAAmaloona assalihati anna lahum ajrankabeera

This Qur’an guides to what is most upright, and brings glad tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds, that they have a great reward,

### Al-Isra 17:41

**Arabic:** وَلَقَدْ صَرَّفْنَا ف۪ي هٰذَا الْقُرْاٰنِ لِيَذَّكَّرُواۜ وَمَا يَز۪يدُهُمْ اِلَّا نُفُوراً

**Transcription:** Walaqad sarrafna fee hathaalqur-ani liyaththakkaroo wama yazeeduhumilla nufoora

And We have expounded in this Qur’an, that they take heed; but it increases them only in aversion.

### Al-Isra 17:45

**Arabic:** وَاِذَا قَرَأْتَ الْقُرْاٰنَ جَعَلْنَا بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَ الَّذ۪ينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْاٰخِرَةِ حِجَاباً مَسْتُوراًۙ

**Transcription:** Wa-itha qara/ta alqur-anajaAAalna baynaka wabayna allatheena layu/minoona bil-akhirati hijabanmastoora

And when thou recitest the Qur’an, We place between thee and those who believe not in the Hereafter a hidden partition,

### Al-Isra 17:46

**Arabic:** وَجَعَلْنَا عَلٰى قُلُوبِهِمْ اَكِنَّةً اَنْ يَفْقَهُوهُ وَف۪ٓي اٰذَانِهِمْ وَقْراًۜ وَاِذَا ذَكَرْتَ رَبَّكَ فِي الْقُرْاٰنِ وَحْدَهُ وَلَّوْا عَلٰٓى اَدْبَارِهِمْ نُفُوراً

**Transcription:** WajaAAalna AAala quloobihimakinnatan an yafqahoohu wafee athanihim waqran wa-ithathakarta rabbaka fee alqur-ani wahdahuwallaw AAala adbarihim nufoora

And We have placed upon their hearts coverings lest they should understand it, and in their ears deafness. And when thou rememberest thy Lord alone in the Qur’an, they turn their backs in aversion.

### Al-Isra 17:60

**Arabic:** وَاِذْ قُلْنَا لَكَ اِنَّ رَبَّكَ اَحَاطَ بِالنَّاسِۜ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا الرُّءْيَا الَّت۪ٓي اَرَيْنَاكَ اِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِلنَّاسِ وَالشَّجَرَةَ الْمَلْعُونَةَ فِي الْقُرْاٰنِۜ وَنُخَوِّفُهُمْۙ فَمَا يَز۪يدُهُمْ اِلَّا طُغْيَاناً كَب۪يراً۟

**Transcription:** Wa-ith qulna laka inna rabbakaahata binnasi wama jaAAalnaarru/ya allatee araynaka illafitnatan linnasi washshajarataalmalAAoonata fee alqur-ani wanukhawwifuhum famayazeeduhum illa tughyanan kabeera

And when We said to thee: “Thy Lord encompasses mankind[...],” and We made the vision which We showed thee only a means of denial for mankind, and also the accursed tree in the Qur’an. And We put them in dread, but it increases them not save in great inordinacy.

### Al-Isra 17:82

**Arabic:** وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ الْقُرْاٰنِ مَا هُوَ شِفَٓاءٌ وَرَحْمَةٌ لِلْمُؤْمِن۪ينَۙ وَلَا يَز۪يدُ الظَّالِم۪ينَ اِلَّا خَسَاراً

**Transcription:** Wanunazzilu mina alqur-ani mahuwa shifaon warahmatun lilmu/mineena walayazeedu aththalimeena illakhasara

And We send down of the Qur’an what is a healing and mercy for the believers; but it increases not the wrongdoers save in loss.

### Al-Isra 17:88

**Arabic:** قُلْ لَئِنِ اجْتَمَعَتِ الْاِنْسُ وَالْجِنُّ عَلٰٓى اَنْ يَأْتُوا بِمِثْلِ هٰذَا الْقُرْاٰنِ لَا يَأْتُونَ بِمِثْلِه۪ وَلَوْ كَانَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ ظَه۪يراً

**Transcription:** Qul la-ini ijtamaAAati al-insu waljinnuAAala an ya/too bimithli hatha alqur-ani laya/toona bimithlihi walaw kana baAAduhum libaAAdinthaheera

Say thou: “If the servi and the domini gathered to produce the like of this Qur’an, they would not produce the like thereof, though they were helpers one of another.”

### Al-Isra 17:89

**Arabic:** وَلَقَدْ صَرَّفْنَا لِلنَّاسِ ف۪ي هٰذَا الْقُرْاٰنِ مِنْ كُلِّ مَثَلٍۘ فَاَبٰٓى اَكْثَرُ النَّاسِ اِلَّا كُفُوراً

**Transcription:** Walaqad sarrafna linnasifee hatha alqur-ani min kulli mathalin faabaaktharu annasi illa kufoora

And We have expounded for men in this Qur’an every similitude, but most men refuse save denial.

### Al-Isra 17:106

**Arabic:** وَقُرْاٰناً فَرَقْنَاهُ لِتَقْرَاَهُ۫ عَلَى النَّاسِ عَلٰى مُكْثٍ وَنَزَّلْنَاهُ تَنْز۪يلاً

**Transcription:** Waqur-anan faraqnahulitaqraahu AAala annasi AAalamukthin wanazzalnahu tanzeela

And as a recitation We divided, that thou recite it to men in stages; and We have sent it down as a successive revelation.

### Al-Kahf 18:54

**Arabic:** وَلَقَدْ صَرَّفْنَا ف۪ي هٰذَا الْقُرْاٰنِ لِلنَّاسِ مِنْ كُلِّ مَثَلٍۜ وَكَانَ الْاِنْسَانُ اَكْثَرَ شَيْءٍ جَدَلاً

**Transcription:** Walaqad sarrafna fee hathaalqur-ani linnasi min kulli mathalin wakanaal-insanu akthara shay-in jadala

And We have expounded for men in this Qur’an every similitude, but man is, more than anything, contentious.

**Arabic:** مَٓا اَنْزَلْنَا عَلَيْكَ الْقُرْاٰنَ لِتَشْقٰىۙ

**Transcription:** Ma anzalna AAalayka alqur-analitashqa

We have not sent down upon thee the Qur’an that thou be wretched,

### Taha 20:113

**Arabic:** وَكَذٰلِكَ اَنْزَلْنَاهُ قُرْاٰناً عَرَبِياًّ وَصَرَّفْنَا ف۪يهِ مِنَ الْوَع۪يدِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَّقُونَ اَوْ يُحْدِثُ لَهُمْ ذِكْراً

**Transcription:** Wakathalika anzalnahu qur-ananAAarabiyyan wasarrafna feehi mina alwaAAeedilaAAallahum yattaqoona aw yuhdithu lahum thikra

And thus have We sent it down as an Arabic recitation and expounded therein warnings, that they might be in prudent fear, or it cause in them remembrance.

**Arabic:** فَتَعَالَى اللّٰهُ الْمَلِكُ الْحَقُّۚ وَلَا تَعْجَلْ بِالْقُرْاٰنِ مِنْ قَبْلِ اَنْ يُقْضٰٓى اِلَيْكَ وَحْيُهُۘ وَقُلْ رَبِّ زِدْن۪ي عِلْماً

**Transcription:** FataAAala Allahualmaliku alhaqqu wala taAAjal bilqur-animin qabli an yuqda ilayka wahyuhu waqul rabbizidnee AAilma

And exalted be God, the True King! And hasten thou not with the recitation before its revelation to thee be complete; and say thou: “My Lord: increase Thou me in knowledge.”

**Arabic:** وَقَالَ الرَّسُولُ يَا رَبِّ اِنَّ قَوْمِي اتَّخَذُوا هٰذَا الْقُرْاٰنَ مَهْجُوراً

**Transcription:** Waqala arrasoolu yarabbi inna qawmee ittakhathoo hatha alqur-anamahjoora

And the Messenger will say: “O my Lord: my people took this Qur’an as a thing abandoned.”

### Al-Furqan 25:32

**Arabic:** وَقَالَ الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُوا لَوْلَا نُزِّلَ عَلَيْهِ الْقُرْاٰنُ جُمْلَةً وَاحِدَةًۚ كَذٰلِكَ لِنُثَبِّتَ بِه۪ فُؤٰادَكَ وَرَتَّلْنَاهُ تَرْت۪يلاً

**Transcription:** Waqala allatheena kafaroo lawlanuzzila AAalayhi alqur-anu jumlatan wahidatan kathalikalinuthabbita bihi fu-adaka warattalnahu tarteela

And those who ignore warning say: “Oh, that the Qur’an were but sent down upon him all at once!” Thus — that We might strengthen thy heart thereby; and We have recited it distinctly.

### An-Naml 27:1

**Transcription:** Ta-seen tilka ayatualqur-ani wakitabin mubeen

ṭā sīn Those are the proofs of the Qur’an and of a Clear Writ

### An-Naml 27:6

**Arabic:** وَاِنَّكَ لَتُلَقَّى الْقُرْاٰنَ مِنْ لَدُنْ حَك۪يمٍ عَل۪يمٍ

**Transcription:** Wa-innaka latulaqqa alqur-anamin ladun hakeemin AAaleem

And thou receivest the Qur’an from one wise and knowing.

### An-Naml 27:76

**Arabic:** اِنَّ هٰذَا الْقُرْاٰنَ يَقُصُّ عَلٰى بَن۪ٓي اِسْرَٓائ۪لَ اَكْثَرَ الَّذ۪ي هُمْ ف۪يهِ يَخْتَلِفُونَ

**Transcription:** Inna hatha alqur-ana yaqussuAAala banee isra-eela akthara allathee humfeehi yakhtalifoon

This Qur’an relates to the children of Israel most of that wherein they differ,

### An-Naml 27:92

**Arabic:** وَاَنْ اَتْلُوَا الْقُرْاٰنَۚ فَمَنِ اهْتَدٰى فَاِنَّمَا يَهْتَد۪ي لِنَفْسِه۪ۚ وَمَنْ ضَلَّ فَقُلْ اِنَّـمَٓا اَنَا۬ مِنَ الْمُنْذِر۪ينَ

**Transcription:** Waan atluwa alqur-ana famani ihtadafa-innama yahtadee linafsihi waman dalla faqulinnama ana mina almunthireen

“And to recite the Qur’an.” And whoso is guided, he is but guided for himself; and whoso strays, then say thou: “I am only of the warners.”

### Al-Qasas 28:85

**Arabic:** اِنَّ الَّذ۪ي فَرَضَ عَلَيْكَ الْقُرْاٰنَ لَـرَٓادُّكَ اِلٰى مَعَادٍۜ   قُلْ رَبّ۪ٓي اَعْلَمُ مَنْ جَٓاءَ بِالْهُدٰى وَمَنْ هُوَ ف۪ي ضَلَالٍ مُب۪ينٍ

**Transcription:** Inna allathee farada AAalaykaalqur-ana laradduka ila maAAadin qulrabbee aAAlamu man jaa bilhuda waman huwafee dalalin mubeen

He who made the Qur’an incumbent upon thee will return thee to a destination. Say thou: “My Lord best knows who brings guidance and who is in manifest error.”

### Ar-Rum 30:58

**Arabic:** وَلَقَدْ ضَرَبْنَا لِلنَّاسِ ف۪ي هٰذَا الْقُرْاٰنِ مِنْ كُلِّ مَثَلٍۜ وَلَئِنْ جِئْتَهُمْ بِاٰيَةٍ لَيَقُولَنَّ الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُٓوا اِنْ اَنْتُمْ اِلَّا مُبْطِلُونَ

**Transcription:** Walaqad darabna linnasifee hatha alqur-ani min kulli mathalin wala-inji/tahum bi-ayatin layaqoolanna allatheena kafarooin antum illa mubtiloon

And We have struck for men in this Qur’an every similitude. And if thou come to them with a proof, those who ignore warning will say: “You are only creators of vanity.”

### Saba 34:31

**Arabic:** وَقَالَ الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُوا لَنْ نُؤْمِنَ بِهٰذَا الْقُرْاٰنِ وَلَا بِالَّذ۪ي بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِۜ وَلَوْ تَرٰٓى اِذِ الظَّالِمُونَ مَوْقُوفُونَ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْۚ يَرْجِعُ بَعْضُهُمْ اِلٰى بَعْضٍۨ الْقَوْلَۚ يَقُولُ الَّذ۪ينَ اسْتُضْعِفُوا لِلَّذ۪ينَ اسْتَكْبَرُوا  لَوْلَٓا اَنْتُمْ لَكُنَّا مُؤْمِن۪ينَ

**Transcription:** Waqala allatheena kafaroo lannu/mina bihatha alqur-ani wala billatheebayna yadayhi walaw tara ithi aththalimoonamawqoofoona AAinda rabbihim yarjiAAu baAAduhum ilabaAAdin alqawla yaqoolu allatheena istudAAifoolillatheena istakbaroo lawla antum lakunnamu/mineen

And those who ignore warning say: “We will never believe in this Qur’an, nor in what was before it.” But if thou couldst see when the wrongdoers are brought before their Lord, refuting each other’s word[...]. Those who were despised will say to those who had waxed proud: “Were it not for you, we would have been believers!”

### Ya-Sin 36:2

**Transcription:** Walqur-ani alhakeem

By the wise Qur’an!

### Ya-Sin 36:69

**Arabic:** وَمَا عَلَّمْنَاهُ الشِّعْرَ وَمَا يَنْبَغ۪ي لَهُۜ اِنْ هُوَ اِلَّا ذِكْرٌ وَقُرْاٰنٌ مُب۪ينٌۙ

**Transcription:** Wama AAallamnahu ashshiAArawama yanbaghee lahu in huwa illa thikrunwaqur-anun mubeen

And We taught him not poetry, and it does not behove him; it is only a remembrance and a clear recitation

### Sad 38:1

**Transcription:** Sad walqur-ani theeaththikr

ṣād By the Qur’an full of remembrance!

### Az-Zumar 39:27

**Arabic:** وَلَقَدْ ضَرَبْنَا لِلنَّاسِ ف۪ي هٰذَا الْقُرْاٰنِ مِنْ كُلِّ مَثَلٍ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَۚ

**Transcription:** Walaqad darabna linnasifee hatha alqur-ani min kulli mathalin laAAallahumyatathakkaroon

And We have struck for mankind in this Qur’an every similitude, that they might take heed;

### Az-Zumar 39:28

**Transcription:** Qur-anan AAarabiyyan ghayra theeAAiwajin laAAallahum yattaqoon

An Arabic recitation, free of deviation, that they might be in prudent fear.

### Fussilat 41:3

**Transcription:** Kitabun fussilat ayatuhuqur-anan AAarabiyyan liqawmin yaAAlamoon

A Writ the proofs whereof are set out and detailed, an Arabic recitation for people who know,

### Fussilat 41:26

**Arabic:** وَقَالَ الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُوا لَا تَسْمَعُوا لِهٰذَا الْقُرْاٰنِ وَالْغَوْا ف۪يهِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَغْلِبُونَ

**Transcription:** Waqala allatheena kafaroo latasmaAAoo lihatha alqur-ani walghaw feehilaAAallakum taghliboon

And those who ignore warning say: “Listen not to this Qur’an, and speak nonsense about it, that you might be victorious.”

### Fussilat 41:44

**Arabic:** وَلَوْ جَعَلْنَاهُ قُرْاٰناً اَعْجَمِياًّ لَقَالُوا لَوْلَا فُصِّلَتْ اٰيَاتُهُۜ  ءَاَۭۘعْجَمِيٌّ وَعَرَبِيٌّۜ قُلْ هُوَ لِلَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا هُدًى وَشِفَٓاءٌۜ وَالَّذ۪ينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ ف۪ٓي اٰذَانِهِمْ وَقْرٌ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِمْ عَمًىۜ اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ يُنَادَوْنَ مِنْ مَكَانٍ بَع۪يدٍ۟

**Transcription:** Walaw jaAAalnahu qur-ananaAAjamiyyan laqaloo lawla fussilat ayatuhuaaAAjamiyyun waAAarabiyyun qul huwa lillatheena amanoohudan washifaon wallatheena layu/minoona fee athanihim waqrun wahuwa AAalayhim AAaman ola-ikayunadawna min makanin baAAeed

And had We made it a recitation in a foreign tongue, they would have said: “Oh, that its proofs were but set out and detailed — a foreign tongue and an Arab!” Say thou: “It is for those who heed warning a guidance and a healing”; but those who do not believe: in their ears is deafness, and it is for them blindness; those: they are called from a far place.

### Ash-Shuraa 42:7

**Arabic:** وَكَذٰلِكَ اَوْحَيْنَٓا اِلَيْكَ قُرْاٰناً عَرَبِياًّ لِتُنْذِرَ اُمَّ الْقُرٰى وَمَنْ حَوْلَهَا وَتُنْذِرَ يَوْمَ الْجَمْعِ لَا رَيْبَ ف۪يهِۜ فَر۪يقٌ فِي الْجَنَّةِ وَفَر۪يقٌ فِي السَّع۪يرِ

**Transcription:** Wakathalika awhaynailayka qur-anan AAarabiyyan litunthira omma alqurawaman hawlaha watunthira yawma aljamAAi larayba feehi fareequn fee aljannati wafareequn fee assaAAeer

And thus We have revealed to thee an Arabic recitation, that thou warn the mother of cities and whoso is around her, and thou warn of the Day of Gathering whereof there is no doubt: a faction will be in the Garden, and a faction in the Inferno.

### Az-Zukhruf 43:3

**Arabic:** اِنَّا جَعَلْنَاهُ قُرْءٰناً عَرَبِياًّ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَۚ

**Transcription:** Inna jaAAalnahu qur-ananAAarabiyyan laAAallakum taAAqiloona

We have made it an Arabic recitation, that you might use reason,

### Az-Zukhruf 43:31

**Arabic:** وَقَالُوا لَوْلَا نُزِّلَ هٰذَا الْقُرْاٰنُ عَلٰى رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْقَرْيَتَيْنِ عَظ۪يمٍ

**Transcription:** Waqaloo lawla nuzzila hathaalqur-anu AAala rajulin mina alqaryatayni AAatheem

And they said: “Oh, that this Qur’an had but been sent down upon a great man of the two cities!”

### Al-Ahqaf 46:29

**Arabic:** وَاِذْ صَرَفْنَٓا اِلَيْكَ نَفَراً مِنَ الْجِنِّ يَسْتَمِعُونَ الْقُرْاٰنَۚ  فَلَمَّا حَضَرُوهُ قَالُٓوا اَنْصِتُواۚ فَلَمَّا قُضِيَ وَلَّوْا اِلٰى قَوْمِهِمْ مُنْذِر۪ينَ

**Transcription:** Wa-ith sarafna ilaykanafaran mina aljinni yastamiAAoona alqur-ana falammahadaroohu qaloo ansitoo falammaqudiya wallaw ila qawmihim munthireen

And when We turned towards thee a band of the domini, listening in to the Qur’an, and when they were in its presence they said: “Listen attentively”; then, when it was concluded, they turned back to their people, warning.

### Muhammad 47:24

**Arabic:** اَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ الْقُرْاٰنَ اَمْ عَلٰى قُلُوبٍ اَقْفَالُهَا

**Transcription:** Afala yatadabbaroona alqur-anaam AAala quloobin aqfaluha

Will they then not consider the Qur’an with care! If there be locks upon their hearts:

### Qaf 50:1

**Arabic:** قٓ۠ وَالْقُرْاٰنِ الْمَج۪يدِۚ

**Transcription:** Qaf walqur-ani almajeed

qāf By the glorious Qur’an!

### Qaf 50:45

**Arabic:** نَحْنُ اَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ وَمَٓا اَنْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِجَبَّارٍ فَذَكِّرْ بِالْقُرْاٰنِ مَنْ يَخَافُ وَع۪يدِ

**Transcription:** Nahnu aAAlamu bima yaqooloonawama anta AAalayhim bijabbarin fathakkir bilqur-animan yakhafu waAAeed

We best know what they say; and thou art not a tyrant over them. But remind thou with the Qur’an him who fears My warning.

### Al-Qamar 54:17

**Arabic:** وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْاٰنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ

**Transcription:** Walaqad yassarna alqur-ana liththikrifahal min muddakir

And We have made the Qur’an easy for remembrance; so is there any who will remember?

### Al-Qamar 54:22

### Al-Waqi'ah 56:77

**Transcription:** Innahu laqur-anun kareem

It is a noble recitation

### Al-Hashr 59:21

**Arabic:** لَوْ اَنْزَلْنَا هٰذَا الْقُرْاٰنَ عَلٰى جَبَلٍ لَرَاَيْتَهُ خَاشِعاً مُتَصَدِّعاً مِنْ خَشْيَةِ اللّٰهِۜ وَتِلْكَ الْاَمْثَالُ نَضْرِبُهَا لِلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

**Transcription:** Law anzalna hatha alqur-anaAAala jabalin laraaytahu khashiAAan mutasaddiAAanmin khashyati Allahi watilka al-amthalu nadribuhalinnasi laAAallahum yatafakkaroon

Had We sent down this Qur’an upon a mountain, thou hadst seen it humbled, split asunder from fear of God. And those similitudes — We strike them for mankind, that they might reflect.

### Al-Jinn 72:1

**Arabic:** قُلْ اُو۫حِيَ اِلَيَّ اَنَّهُ اسْتَمَعَ نَفَرٌ مِنَ الْجِنِّ فَقَالُٓوا اِنَّا سَمِعْنَا قُرْاٰناً عَجَباًۙ

**Transcription:** Qul oohiya ilayya annahu istamaAAanafarun mina aljinni faqaloo inna samiAAnaqur-anan AAajaba

Say thou: “It is revealed to me, that a band of the domini listened in, and they said: ‘We have heard an amazing recitation

### Al-Muzzammil 73:4

**Arabic:** اَوْ زِدْ عَلَيْهِ وَرَتِّلِ الْقُرْاٰنَ تَرْت۪يلاًۜ

**Transcription:** Aw zid AAalayhi warattili alqur-anatarteela

Or add thou thereto) and recite thou the Qur’an distinctly.

### Al-Muzzammil 73:20

**Arabic:** اِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَعْلَمُ اَنَّكَ تَقُومُ اَدْنٰى مِنْ ثُلُثَيِ الَّيْلِ وَنِصْفَهُ وَثُلُثَهُ وَطَٓائِفَةٌ مِنَ الَّذ۪ينَ مَعَكَۜ وَاللّٰهُ يُقَدِّرُ الَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَۜ عَلِمَ اَنْ لَنْ تُحْصُوهُ فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَاقْرَؤُ۫ا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنَ الْقُرْاٰنِۜ عَلِمَ اَنْ سَيَكُونُ مِنْكُمْ مَرْضٰىۙ وَاٰخَرُونَ يَضْرِبُونَ فِي الْاَرْضِ يَبْتَغُونَ مِنْ فَضْلِ اللّٰهِۙ وَاٰخَرُونَ يُقَاتِلُونَ ف۪ي سَب۪يلِ اللّٰهِۘ فَاقْرَؤُ۫ا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُۙ وَاَق۪يمُوا الصَّلٰوةَ وَاٰتُوا الزَّكٰوةَ وَاَقْرِضُوا اللّٰهَ قَرْضاً حَسَناًۜ وَمَا تُقَدِّمُوا لِاَنْفُسِكُمْ مِنْ خَيْرٍ تَجِدُوهُ عِنْدَ اللّٰهِ هُوَ خَيْراً وَاَعْظَمَ اَجْراًۜ وَاسْتَغْفِرُوا اللّٰهَۜ  اِنَّ اللّٰهَ غَفُورٌ رَح۪يمٌ

**Transcription:** Inna rabbaka yaAAlamu annaka taqoomu adnamin thuluthayi allayli wanisfahu wathuluthahu wata-ifatunmina allatheena maAAaka wallahu yuqaddiruallayla wannahara AAalima an lan tuhsoohufataba AAalaykum faqraoo ma tayassara minaalqur-ani AAalima an sayakoonu minkum marda waakharoonayadriboona fee al-ardi yabtaghoona min fadliAllahi waakharoona yuqatiloona fee sabeeliAllahi faqraoo ma tayassara minhu waaqeemooassalata waatoo azzakatawaaqridoo Allaha qardan hasanan wamatuqaddimoo li-anfusikum min khayrin tajidoohu AAinda Allahihuwa khayran waaAAthama ajran wastaghfirooAllaha inna Allaha ghafoorun raheem

Thy Lord knows that thou standest nearly two-thirds of the night, or a half of it, or a third of it, as does a number of those with thee. And God determines the night and the day. He knew that you would not calculate it, and has turned towards you: — so recite what is made easy of the Qur’an. He knows that there will be some sick among you, and others travelling in the earth in search of the bounty of God, and others fighting in the cause of God: — so recite what is made easy thereof, and uphold the duty, and render the purity, and lend to God a goodly loan. And what good you send ahead for your souls — you will find it with God, better and greater in reward. And ask forgiveness of God; God is forgiving and merciful.

### Al-Qiyamah 75:17

**Arabic:** اِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُ وَقُرْاٰنَهُۚ

Upon Us is its gathering and its recitation.

### Al-Qiyamah 75:18

**Transcription:** Fa-itha qara/nahu fattabiAAqur-anah

And when We recite it, follow thou the recitation thereof.
