Surah Yusuf (Joseph) — سورة يوسف - **Verse:** 83 / 111 · **Juz:** 13 · **Mushaf page:** 244 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-yusuf/verse-83 ## Arabic قَالَ بَلْ سَوَّلَتْ لَكُمْ اَنْفُسُكُمْ اَمْراًۜ فَصَبْرٌ جَم۪يلٌۜ عَسَى اللّٰهُ اَنْ يَأْتِيَن۪ي بِهِمْ جَم۪يعاًۜ اِنَّهُ هُوَ الْعَل۪يمُ الْحَك۪يمُ ## Transcription Qala bal sawwalat lakum anfusukumamran fasabrun jameelun AAasa Allahu anya/tiyanee bihim jameeAAan innahu huwa alAAaleemu alhakeem ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley He said, ‘It’s merely that your lower selves suggested something to you which you did. But beauty lies in having steadfastness. Perhaps Allah will bring them all together. He is indeed All-Knowing and All-Wise.’ ### Progressive Muslims He replied: "No, for it is your own souls that have conspired you to this. So patience is most fitting, perhaps God will bring them all to me. He is the Knowledgeable, the Wise." ### Shabbir Ahmed Jacob said, "Nay, you have made up yet another story good enough only for you. But I resort to decent forbearance. He, only He, is the Knower, the Wise. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary The father heard the narration and said: "(All that is untrue). But your souls have made it easy for you to engage in a heinous act.[1] So, I will be graciously patient even at this. Allah may well bring them all back to me. You have behaved in his case just as you behaved in the case of his elder brother. " ### Bijan Moeinian Hearing their story, Jacob said: "How lightly you accept the things at their face value. Well, I have to bear this with a graceful patience. May the Lord, Who knows everything and is the Most Wise, bring back my lost ones to me." ### Al-Hilali & Khan He [Ya‘qûb (Jacob)] said: "Nay, but your ownselves have beguiled you into something. So patience is most fitting (for me). May be Allâh will bring them (back) all to me. Truly He! Only He is All-Knowing, All-Wise." ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Jacob said: "Nay, but ye have yourselves contrived a story (good enough) for you. So patience is most fitting (for me). Maybe Allah will bring them (back) all to me (in the end). For He is indeed full of knowledge and wisdom." ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran He cried, "No! Your souls must have tempted you to do something ˹evil˺. So ˹I am left with nothing but˺ beautiful patience![1] I trust Allah will return them all to me. Surely He ˹alone˺ is the All-Knowing, All-Wise." ### Taqi Usmani He (Ya‘qūb) said, "Rather, your inner desires have seduced you to something. So, patience is best. Hopefully, Allah may bring them all together. Surely, He is the All-Knowing, All-Wise." ### Abdul Haleem Their father said, ‘No! Your souls have prompted you to do wrong! "Nefsiniz sizi yanıltıp (böyle) bir buyrultuya sürüklemiş. Bundan sonra (bana düşen) güzel bir sabırdır. Umulur ki Tanrı [pek yakın bir gelecekte] onların tümünü bana getirir. Çünkü O, bilenin, hüküm ve hikmet sahibi olanın kendisidir." ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim (Geldiler, aynı sözü söylediler. Bunun üzerine Ya'kub) dedi ki: "Hayır, sizi nefisleriniz aldatıb (böyle büyük) bir işe sürüklemiş. Artık (bana düşen) güzel bir sabırdır. Hakıykat şudur ki: Her şey'i bilen, yegane hüküm (ve hikmet) saahibi olan Odur". ### İbni Kesir Ya'kub dedi ki: Hayır, nefisleriniz sizi aldatıp bir işe sürüklemiş. Artık bana sabır gerekir. Umulur ki Allah, onların hepsini birden bana getirecektir.
