Surah Yusuf (Joseph) — سورة يوسف - **Verse:** 5 / 111 · **Juz:** 12 · **Mushaf page:** 235 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-yusuf/verse-5 ## Arabic قَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ لَا تَقْصُصْ رُءْيَاكَ عَلٰٓى اِخْوَتِكَ فَيَك۪يدُوا لَكَ كَيْداًۜ اِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لِلْاِنْسَانِ عَدُوٌّ مُب۪ينٌ ## Transcription Qala ya bunayya la taqsusru/yaka AAala ikhwatika fayakeedoo laka kaydan innaashshaytana lil-insani AAaduwwun mubeen ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley He said, ‘My son, don’t tell your brothers your dream lest they devise some scheme to injure you, Shaytan is a clear-cut enemy to man. ### Progressive Muslims He said: "O my son, do not relate your vision to your brothers, or they will scheme against you. Do not relate your dream to your brothers lest they hatch a plot to harm you[1]. Indeed Satan is man's open enemy. _Footnotes_ - [1] As the meanings of the dream were quite obvious, Prophet Jacob (peace be upon him) had a genuine fear that Joseph’s ten step brothers would become all the more envious of him when they would hear this. So he warned his righteous son not to mention his dream to his brothers, for he knew that those sons of his did not bear the moral character worthy of the sons of a Prophet, and, therefore they were up to any evil design against him out of mere envy. As regards to the dream, the sun in it was Prophet Jacob (peace be upon him), the moon his wife, Prophet Joseph’s step mother, and the eleven stars were his eleven brothers. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab His father expressed his thoughts in words with grace divine imbued; he said to him: "My son, relate not your vision to your brothers -half brothers- lest they plot against you and entice you into danger: actuated by envy, they may fall as puppets in the hands of AL-Shaytan (Satan) who is indeed an avowed enemy to man.
