Surah Yusuf (Joseph) — سورة يوسف - **Verse:** 32 / 111 · **Juz:** 12 · **Mushaf page:** 238 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-yusuf/verse-32 ## Arabic قَالَتْ فَذٰلِكُنَّ الَّذ۪ي لُمْتُنَّن۪ي ف۪يهِۜ وَلَقَدْ رَاوَدْتُهُ عَنْ نَفْسِه۪ فَاسْتَعْصَمَۜ وَلَئِنْ لَمْ يَفْعَلْ مَٓا اٰمُرُهُ لَيُسْجَنَنَّ وَلَيَكُوناً مِنَ الصَّاغِر۪ينَ ## Transcription Qalat fathalikunna allatheelumtunnanee feehi walaqad rawadtuhu AAan nafsihi fastAAsamawala-in lam yafAAal ma amuruhu layusjanannawalayakoonan mina assaghireen ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley She said, ‘You see! It’s him you blamed me for. I tried seducing him but he refused. If he does not do what I order him, he will be put in prison and brought low.’ ### Progressive Muslims She said: "This is the one whom you blamed me for, and I have seduced him from himself but he refused. And if he does not do as I command him, he will be imprisoned, and he will be one of those disgraced." ### Shabbir Ahmed The lady of the house said, "This is he about whom you blamed me. I tried to seduce him but he preserved himself. Since he thinks he is an angel, and remains adamant against my command, he shall be imprisoned and brought low. And, indeed, I did try to make him yield himself unto me, but he remained chaste. Now, however, if he does not do what I bid him, he shall most certainly be imprisoned, and shall most certainly find himself among the despised! ### Marmaduke Pickthall She said: This is he on whose account ye blamed me. I asked of him an evil act, but he proved continent, but if he do not my behest he verily shall be imprisoned, and verily shall be of those brought low. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary She said: "So now you see! This is the one regarding whom you reproached me. Indeed I tried to tempt him to myself but he held back, although if he were not to follow my order, he would certainly be imprisoned and humiliated."[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] This open demonstration of her love and declaration of her immoral designs show that the moral condition of the higher class of the Egyptian society had declined to the lowest ebb. It is quite obvious that the women whom she had invited must have been ladies belonging to the upper most stratum of the society. The very fact that she presented her beloved before them without any hesitation, in order to convince them of his beauty and youth that had urged her to fall in love with him, shows that there was nothing uncommon in this demonstration. Then these ladies did not reproach her but themselves practically demonstrated that, in those circumstances, they themselves would have done the same that she did. Above all, the hostess did not feel that it was immodest to declare openly: No doubt, I sought to seduce him and he succeeded in escaping from me. Yet I am not going to give him up. If he will not do as I bid him, he shall be cast into prison and humbled and disgraced. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab There and then, she said to them: "This is he on whose account you reproved me. " "I wanted him to fulfill my desire but he refused, and unless he submits to my command and does what I want, he shall be put in prison and be incensed with multiplied humiliations." ### Bijan Moeinian The governor’s wife said: "This is the man that you blame me of falling in love with. I have tried to seduce him, but so far he has refused me. If he continues to refuse me, I will send him to jail to be disgraced." ### Al-Hilali & Khan She said: "This is he (the young man) about whom you did blame me, and I did seek to seduce him, but he refused. And now if he refuses to obey my order, he shall certainly be cast into prison, and will be one of those who are disgraced." ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali She said: "There before you is the man about whom ye did blame me! I did seek to seduce him from his (true) self but he did firmly save himself guiltless!.... and now, if he doth not my bidding, he shall certainly be cast into prison, and (what is more) be of the company of the vilest!" ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran She said, "This is the one for whose love you criticized me! I did try to seduce him but he ˹firmly˺ refused. And if he does not do what I order him to, he will certainly be imprisoned and ˹fully˺ disgraced."[1] ### Taqi Usmani She said, "This is the one about whom you reproached me. Yes, I seduced him, but he abstained. And should he not follow my command, he shall be imprisoned and will be disgraced." ### Abdul Haleem She said, ‘This is the one you blamed me for. I tried to seduce him and he wanted to remain chaste, but if he does not do what I command now, he will be put in prison and degraded.’ ### Arthur John Arberry 'So now you see, she said. 'This is he you blamed me for. Yes, I solicited him, but he abstained. Yet if he will not do what I command him, he shall be imprisoned, and be one of the humbled.' ### E. Aziz And when she heard of their malicious talk, she sent for them, and prepared for them a banquet, and gave each of them a knife; and she said (to Joseph), "Come forth to them!" And when they saw him they exalted (admired) him and cut their hands exclaiming, "Allah preserve us! No mortal is this! This is none but a noble angel. " ### Mahmoud Ghali She said, "Then that is (the affair) you blamed me for; and indeed I readily solicited him, yet he safeguarded (his chastity); and indeed in case he does not (perform) what I command him, indeed he will definitely be imprisoned, and indeed he will (really) be of the ones belittled. " ### George Sale And his mistress said, this is he, for whose sake ye blamed me: I asked him to lie with me, but he hath constantly refused. But if he do not perform that which I command him, he shall surely be cast into prison, and he shall be made one of the contemptible. ### Syed Vickar Ahamed She said: "Before you, there is the man about whom you blamed me! I wanted to seduce him from his (true) self but he refused (himself by being guiltless)! And now, if he does not act by my command, he will certainly be thrown into prison, and (he will) be from the lowliest!" ### Amatul Rahman Omar She said, `So (you have seen) this is he about whom you blamed me. I did seek to seduce him against his will, but he preserved himself (from sin), yet (I tell him aloud) if he do not what I bid him, he shall certainly be imprisoned, and he shall indeed be of the humiliated ones.' ### Ali Quli Qarai She said, ‘He is the one on whose account you blamed me. Certainly I did solicit him, but he was continent, and if he does not do what I bid him, surely he shall be imprisoned and be among the abased.’ ### Ahmed Hulusi — Türkçe Kur'an Çözümü (Aziyz'in karısı) dedi ki: "Kendisi yüzünden beni hor görüp yerdiğiniz işte bu! Andolsun ki Onu ayartmak istedim de, O, temiz kalmak istedi (sakındı)! Yemin ederim, eğer Ona emrettiğimi yapmazsa kesinlikle zindana atılacak ve aşağılanmışlar arasında olacak. " ### Ali Bulaç — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Türkçe Anlamı Kadın dedi ki: "Beni kendisiyle kınadığınız işte budur. Andolsun onun nefsinden ben murad istedim, o ise (kendini) korudu. Ve andolsun, eğer o kendisine emrettiğimi yapmayacak olursa, mutlaka zindana atılacak ve elbette küçük düşürülenlerden olacak." ### Bayraktar Bayraklı — Yeni Bir Anlayışın Işığında Kur'an Meali Kadın dedi ki: "İşte budur o, hakkında beni kınadığınız. Vallahi, ben onunla gönlümü eğlendirmek istedim de o masum bir tavırla bundan çekindi. Ama, eğer kendisine emrettiğimi yapmazsa, yemin ediyorum zindana tıkılacak ve horlananlardan olacaktır." ### Diyanet İşleri — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Meali Bunun üzerine kadın onlara dedi ki: "İşte bu, beni hakkında kınadığınız kimsedir. Andolsun, ben ondan murad almak istedim. Fakat o, iffetinden dolayı bundan kaçındı. Yine yemin ederim ki, eğer emrimi yerine getirmezse mutlaka zindana atılacak ve mutlaka zillete uğrayanlardan olacaktır!" ### Gültekin Onan Kadın dedi ki: "Beni kendisiyle kınadığınız işte budur. Andolsun onun nefsinden ben murad istedim, o ise (kendini) korudu. Ve andolsun, eğer o kendisine buyurduğumu yapmayacak olursa, mutlaka zindana atılacak ve elbette küçük düşürülenlerden olacak." ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim (Kadın) dedi: "İşte beni kendisi hakkında ayıbladığınız şu gördüğünüz (zat) dir. Andederim, onun nefsinden ben murad istedim de o, namuskarlık göster (ib reddet) di. Yemin ederim, eğer o, kendisine emredeceğimi yapmazsa her halde zindana atılacak ve her halde zillete uğrayanlardan olacakdır"! ### İbni Kesir Kadın dedi ki: İşte beni, onun için ayıpladığınız budur. Onu kendime ram etmek istedim, ama o iffetinden çekindi. Eğer istediğimi yapmazsa; andolsun ki, zindana atılacak ve zillete uğrayanlardan olacaktır. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı (Kişizadenin karısı:) "İşte hakkında beni kınayıp yerdiğiniz kimse bu!" dedi, "Evet, gerçekten de o'nun gönlünü çelmek istedim, ama o kendini (bundan) sakındı. Ne var ki eğer bundan sonra da istediğim şeyi yapmazsa mutlaka hapsedilecek ve kendini aşağılanmış kimselerin arasında bulacak!" ### Şaban Piriş — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Anlamı -İşte hakkında beni kınadığınız budur. Arzuma uymasını istedim. Fakat O, kabul etmedi. Ona emrettiğim işi yine yapmazsa zindana atılıp, küçük düşenlerden olacak, dedi. ### Süleyman Ateş — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Yüce Meali (Kadın) Dedi ki: "İşte siz, beni bunun için kınamıştınız! Andolsun ben kendisinden murad almak istedim de o, iffetinden ötürü reddetti. Ama kendisine emrettiğimi yapmazsa, elbette zindana atılacak ve alçalanlardan olacaktır!" ### Yaşar Nuri Öztürk — Kur'an-ı Kerim Meali Kadın dedi ki: "İşte budur o, hakkında beni kınadığınız. Vallahi, ben onunla gönlümü eğlendirmek istedim de o masum bir tavırla bundan çekindi. Doğrusu ben onu baştan çıkarmaya çalıştım, ne ki o geçit vermedi. Buyruğumu yapmazsa, kesinlikle hapsedilecek ve aşağılanacaktır!" ### Süleymaniye Vakfı (Eski Baskı) — Süleymaniye Vakfı Meali Kadın dedi ki "Beni ayıpladığınız kişiyi görün işte. Onun benim olmasını gerçekten çok istedim ama o hep kendini korudu[1].
