Surah Yusuf (Joseph) — سورة يوسف - **Verse:** 26 / 111 · **Juz:** 12 · **Mushaf page:** 237 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-yusuf/verse-26 ## Arabic قَالَ هِيَ رَاوَدَتْن۪ي عَنْ نَفْس۪ي وَشَهِدَ شَاهِدٌ مِنْ اَهْلِهَاۚ اِنْ كَانَ قَم۪يصُهُ قُدَّ مِنْ قُبُلٍ فَصَدَقَتْ وَهُوَ مِنَ الْكَاذِب۪ينَ ## Transcription Qala hiya rawadatnee AAannafsee washahida shahidun min ahliha in kanaqameesuhu qudda min qubulin fasadaqat wahuwa minaalkathibeen ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley He said, ‘It was she who tried to seduce me. ’ A witness from her people then declared, ‘If his shirt is torn in front, she speaks the truth and he has clearly told a shameless lie. ### Progressive Muslims He said: "She is the one who seduced me from myself, " and a witness from her family gave testimony: "If his shirt was torn from the front, then she is truthful, and he is the liar. " ### Shabbir Ahmed Joseph said, "She is the one who tried to seduce me. " And a witness from her family testified. "If his shirt is torn from the front, then she has told the truth, and he is of the liars. ### Muhammad Asad [Joseph] exclaimed: "It was she who sought to make me yield myself unto her!" Now one of those present, a member of her own household, suggested this: If his tunic has been torn from the front, then she is telling the truth, and he is a liar; ### Marmaduke Pickthall (Joseph) said: She it was who asked of me an evil act. And a witness of her own folk testified: If his shirt is torn from before, then she speaketh truth and he is of the liars. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Joseph said: "It is she who was trying to tempt me to herself." And a witness belonging to her own household testified[1] (on grounds of circumstantial evidence): "If his shirt is torn from the front, then she is telling the truth and he is a liar. _Footnotes_ - [1] It appears that when the master of the house came on the scene, he was accompanied by a person of his wife’s household. When he heard the story of the incident, he made this proposal: As each of them accuses the other and there is no eye witness of what happened between the two, the matter should be decided by the help of the circumstantial evidence, by examining the condition of Joseph’s shirt. Obviously this was a very reasonable way of deciding the matter, and there was, therefore, no need to resort to a miracle. According to some traditions this witness was an infant, lying in the cradle, whom Allah had given the power of speech for giving this evidence. As this story is not supported by any authority, there is no reason why the obvious, plain and reasonable thing should not be accepted that the witness was a wise and experienced member of the family of the wife, instead of having resort to a miracle based on an unauthentic tradition. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab He -Yusuf- said: "She tried to incite me to an immoral act, ". When the family gathered to judge the case, one of them wisely said: "if his garment is torn at the front, then she is in the right and the truth is on her side, and" he is lying. ### Bijan Moeinian Joseph responded: "It was she who tried to seduce me. " At this one of the family members said: “If his shirt is torn from the front, she speaks the truth and Joseph lies.” ### Al-Hilali & Khan He [Yûsuf (Joseph)] said: "It was she that sought to seduce me;" and a witness of her household bore witness (saying): "If it be that his shirt is torn from the front, then her tale is true and he is a liar! ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali He said: "It was she that sought to seduce me - from my (true) self." And one of her household saw (this) and bore witness, (thus):- "If it be that his shirt is rent from the front, then is her tale true, and he is a liar! ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran Joseph responded, "It was she who tried to seduce me." And a witness from her own family testified: “If his shirt is torn from the front, then she has told the truth and he is a liar. ### Taqi Usmani He (Yūsuf) said, "It was she who tried to seduce me." And a witness from her family observed that if his shirt was ripped from the front side, then she is true and he is a liar; ### Abdul Haleem but he said, ‘She tried to seduce me.’ A member of her household suggested, ‘If his shirt is torn at the front, then it is she who is telling the truth and he who is lying, ### Arthur John Arberry Said he, 'It was she that solicited me'; and a witness of her folk bore witness, 'If his shirt has been torn from before then she has spoken truly, and he is one of the liars; ### E. Henry Palmer Said he, 'She desired me for my person. ' And a witness from among her family bore witness: 'If his shirt be rent from in front, then she speaks the truth and he is of the liars; ### Hamid S. Aziz And they raced to the door and she rent his shirt from behind; and they met her lord (husband) at the door. Said she, "What else is the recompense for him who wishes evil for your family, but prison or a grievous doom?" ### Mahmoud Ghali He said, "She, (really) she solicited me. "And a witness of her family bore witness, "In case his shirt has been ripped from the forepart, then she has (spoken) sincerely, and he is (one) of the liars. ### George Sale And Joseph said, she asked me to lie with her. And a witness of her family bore witness, saying, if his garment be rent before, she speaketh truth, and he is a liar: ### Syed Vickar Ahamed He (Yusuf) said: "It was she who tried to seduce me— From my (true) self. " And one of (the members of) her household saw and told what happened, (like this):— "If it is that his shirt is torn from the front, then what she says is true, and he is the liar! ### Amatul Rahman Omar He (- Joseph) said, `No, (it is not so as she describes but) she it was who sought to seduce me against my will. ' Now a (learned) witness of her own family bore a (circumstantial) evidence (saying), `If his shirt has been torn from the front then she speaks the truth and he is of the liars. ### Ali Quli Qarai He said, ‘It was she who solicited me. ’ A witness of her own household testified: ‘If his shirt is torn from the front, she tells the truth and he lies. ### Ahmed Hulusi — Türkçe Kur'an Çözümü (Yusuf) dedi ki: "Nefsimden yararlanmak isteyen o idi". . . Hanımın akrabasından bir şahit şöyle şahitlik etti: "Eğer gömleği önden yırtılmış ise, hanım doğru söylemiştir, bu yalancılardandır. ### Gültekin Onan (Yusuf) Dedi ki: "Onun kendisi benden murad almak istedi." Kadının ehlinden (yakınlarından) bir şahid şahitlik etti: "Eğer onun gömleği ön taraftan yırtılmışsa bu durumda kadın doğruyu söylemiştir, kendisi ise yalan söyleyenlerdendir. ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim (Yuusuf): "O, kendisi, dedi, benim nefsimden murad almak istedi". Onun (kadının) yakınlarından biri şahid de şehadet etdi ki: "Eğer gömleği önünden yırtıldıysa (kadın) doğru söylemişdir, bu ise yalancılardandır". ### İbni Kesir Dedi ki: O, beni kendisine ram etmek istedi. Kadının ailesinden biri de şehadet etti: Eğer gömleği önden yırtılmışsa; o (kadın) doğru söylemiştir. Bu (Yusuf) ise yalancılardandır. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı (Yusuf:) "Benim gönlümü çelmek isteyen asıl o!" diye (kendini savundu). O an kadının yakınlarından duruma tanık olan biri: "Eğer gömleği önden yırtılmışsa," diyerek görüşünü bildirdi, "kadın doğru, beriki yalan söylüyor demektir; ### Şaban Piriş — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Anlamı Yusuf: -O, kendisi, benden murat almak istedi, dedi. Kadının ailesinden bir şahid de şöyle şahidlik etti: "Eğer Yusuf'un gömleği önden yırtılmışsa kadın doğrudur, o yalancılardandır." ### Yaşar Nuri Öztürk — Kur'an-ı Kerim Meali Yusuf dedi ki: "O, gönlünü eğlendirmek için beni kullanmak istedi." Kadının ailesinden bir tanık da şu yolda tanıklık etti: "Eğer erkeğin gömleği önden yırtılmışsa kadın doğru söylüyor, bu durumda erkek yalancılardandır. ### Mustafa İslamoğlu — Hayat Kitabı Kur’an (Yusuf) söze girdi: "Asıl arzusunu benimle tatmin için beni baştan çıkarmaya çalışan odur."
