Surah Yusuf (Joseph) — سورة يوسف - **Verse:** 18 / 111 · **Juz:** 12 · **Mushaf page:** 236 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-yusuf/verse-18 ## Arabic وَجَٓاؤُ۫ عَلٰى قَم۪يصِه۪ بِدَمٍ كَذِبٍۜ قَالَ بَلْ سَوَّلَتْ لَكُمْ اَنْفُسُكُمْ اَمْراًۜ فَصَبْرٌ جَم۪يلٌۜ وَاللّٰهُ الْمُسْتَعَانُ عَلٰى مَا تَصِفُونَ ## Transcription Wajaoo AAala qameesihibidamin kathibin qala bal sawwalat lakum anfusukumamran fasabrun jameelun wallahu almustaAAanuAAala ma tasifoon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley They then produced his shirt with false blood on it. He said, ‘It is merely that your lower selves have suggested something to you which you did; but beauty lies in showing steadfastness. It is Allah alone who is my Help in face of the event that you describe.’ ### Progressive Muslims And they came with his shirt stained in false blood. He said: "You have invented this tale yourselves. Patience is good, and God's help is sought against what you describe." ### Shabbir Ahmed And they came with false blood on his shirt. He said, "I don't believe this story; you have made it up. I will remain steadfast in the face of your conspiracy, and Allah it is Whose help is sought in the kind of misfortune you describe to me." ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation And they came with false blood on his shirt. He said, "Indeed, you have conspired with each other to commit a certain scheme. All I can do is resort to a quiet patience. May GOD help me in the face of your conspiracy." ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira They showed him the shirt with false blood on it. (Their father) said: "It is not so; you have made up the story. Yet endurance is best. I seek the help of God alone for what you impute." ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) And they brought upon his shirt false blood. [Jacob] said, "Rather, your souls have enticed you to something, so patience is most fitting. And Allah is the one sought for help against that which you describe." ### Muhammad Asad and they produced his tunic with false blood upon it. [But Jacob] exclaimed: "Nay, but it is your [own] minds that have made [so terrible] a happening seem a matter of little account to you! But [as for myself,] patience in adversity is most goodly [in the sight of God]; and it is to God [alone] that I pray to give me strength to bear the misfortune which you have described to me." ### Marmaduke Pickthall And they came with false blood on his shirt. He said: Nay, but your minds have beguiled you into something. (My course is) comely patience. And Allah it is Whose help is to be sought in that (predicament) which ye describe. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary And they brought Joseph's shirt, stained with false blood. Seeing this their father exclaimed: "Nay (this is not true); rather your evil souls have made it easy for you to commit a heinous act. So I will bear this patiently, and in good grace.[1] It is Allah's help alone that I seek against your fabrication."[2] _Footnotes_ - [1] The literal meaning of "patience in grace" which implies a patience that enables one to endure all kinds of troubles and afflictions in a calm, self possessed and unemotional manner, without complaining or crying or weeping, as is worthy of great minds. - [2] Prophet Jacob’s reaction to the news of Joseph’s death, as depicted in the Quran, is also different from that given in the Bible and the Talmud. According to them he was upset by the sad news and behaved like an ordinary father. The Bible says: And Jacob rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his loins. And mourned for his son many days. (Gen. 37: 34). And the Talmud says that at the sad news Jacob gave himself up to the abandonment of grief, and lay with his face to the ground and refused to be comforted, and cried: Some wild beast has devoured Joseph and I shall never see him more; and he mourned for Joseph for many years. (The Talmud, H. Polano, pp. 78, 79). ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab They brought back his garment stained with false blood. Their father said: "Indeed your minds and souls have enticed you to do something unpleasant and impelled you to feign this tale; in patience do I possess my soul and in Allah do I seek help to bear with composure what you have just described". ### Bijan Moeinian Then they presented the torn cloths of Joseph which they had stained with some kind of blood. Jacob said: "Your lost conscious has made it seem light for you what you have done to Joseph. All I can do is resort to patience. May God help me to bear the consequences of your wrongdoing. ### Al-Hilali & Khan And they brought his shirt stained with false blood. He said: "Nay, but your ownselves have made up a tale. So (for me) patience is most fitting. And it is Allâh (Alone) Whose help can be sought against that (lie) which you describe." ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali They stained his shirt with false blood. He said: "Nay, but your minds have made up a tale (that may pass) with you, (for me) patience is most fitting: Against that which ye assert, it is Allah (alone) Whose help can be sought".. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran And they brought his shirt, stained with false blood.[1] He responded, "No! Your souls must have tempted you to do something ˹evil˺. So ˹I can only endure with˺ beautiful patience![2] It is Allah’s help that I seek to bear your claims." ### Taqi Usmani And they came with fake blood on his shirt. He said, "Rather, your inner desires have tempted you to do something. So, patience is best. It is Allah whose help is sought against what you describe.’’ ### Abdul Haleem and they showed him his shirt, deceptively stained with blood. He cried, ‘No! Your souls have prompted you to do wrong! But it is best to be patient: from God alone I seek help to bear what you are saying.’ ### Arthur John Arberry And they brought his shirt with false blood on it. He said, 'No; but your spirits tempted you to do somewhat. But come, sweet patience! And God's succour is ever there to seek against that you describe.' ### E. Henry Palmer And they brought his shirt with lying blood upon it. Said he, 'Nay, but your souls have induced you to do this; but patience is fair! and God is He whom I ask for aid against that which ye describe.' ### Hamid S. Aziz And they said, "O our father! Verily, we went forth to race and left Joseph by our things, and the wolf devoured him, but you will not believe us though we speak the truth. " ### Mahmoud Ghali And they came with false (Literally: lying, a lie) blood on his shirt. He said, "No indeed, (but) your selves instigated for you a command. So, patience is becoming. And Allah is (The One) Whose help is to be sought against what you describe." ### George Sale And they produced his inner garment stained with false blood. Jacob answered, nay, but ye your selves have contrived the thing for your own sakes: However patience is most becoming, and God's assistance is to be implored to enable me to support the misfortune which ye relate. ### Syed Vickar Ahamed And they brought his shirt stained with false blood. He said: "No, only (you) yourselves have made up a story (that may sound alright) for you. (As for me) patience is most suitable: And against (the lie) what you keep saying, it is Allah Whose help can be prayed for..." ### Amatul Rahman Omar And (to assure their father) they came (to him) with (stains of) false blood on his (- Joseph's) shirt. He (- Jacob) said, `This is not true, but you yourselves have made a (malicious) thing seem fair to you. So (now showing) patience is befitting (for me). And it is Allâh (alone) whose help can be sought to avert what you describe.' ### Ali Quli Qarai And they produced sham blood on his shirt. He said, ‘Rather your souls have made a matter seem decorous to you. Yet patience is graceful, and Allah is my resort against what you allege.’ ### Ahmed Hulusi — Türkçe Kur'an Çözümü Üstüne yalandan sürdükleri taze kan bulunan gömlek ile geldiler. . . (Babaları) dedi ki: "Hayır (öyle olduğunu sanmıyorum)! Nefsleriniz sizi (kötü) bir işe yönlendirmiş! Bana güzellikle sabretmek düşer bundan sonra. . . Nefsiniz, sizi yanıltıp (böyle) bir işe sürüklemiş. Bundan sonra (bana düşen) güzel bir sabırdır. Sizin bu düzüp uydurduklarınıza karşı (kendisinden) yardım istenecek olan Allah'tır." ### Bayraktar Bayraklı — Yeni Bir Anlayışın Işığında Kur'an Meali Gömleğinin üzerinde sahte bir kan getirdiler. Ya'kub dedi ki: "Bilakis; nefisleriniz size bir işi güzel gösterdi. Artık bana düşen, hakkıyla sabretmektir. Anlattığınız karşısında, yardım edecek olan ancak Allah'tır." ### Diyanet İşleri — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Meali Bir de üzerine, sahte bir kan bulaştırılmış gömleğini getirdiler. Yakub dedi ki: "Hayır! Nefisleriniz sizi aldatıp böyle bir işe sürükledi. Artık bana düşen, güzel bir sabırdır. Anlattıklarınıza karşı yardımı istenilecek de ancak Allah'tır." ### Elmalılı Hamdi Yazır — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Yüce Meali Bir de gömleğinin üzerinde yalan bir kan getirdiler, yok, dedi: nefisleriniz sizi aldatmış bir işe sevketmiş, artık bir sabrı cemil ve Allahdır ancak yardımına sığınılacak, söylediklerinize karşı ### Elmalılı (sadeleştirilmiş) Bir de gömleğinin üzerinde yalan bir kan getirdiler. Babaları: "Hayır, nefisleriniz sizi aldatmış, böyle bir işe sevketmiştir. Artık bana düşen güzelce sabretmektir. Sizin söyledikleriniz karşısında yardımına sığınılacak Allah'tır ancak!" dedi. ### Gültekin Onan Ve üzerine yalandan kan (sürülmüş) olan gömleğini getirdiler. "Hayır" dedi. "Nefsiniz, sizi yanıltıp (böyle) bir buyruğa / buyrultuya sürüklemiş. Bundan sonra (bana düşen) güzel bir sabırdır. Sizin bu düzüp uydurduklarınıza karşı (kendisinden) yardım istenecek olan Tanrı'dır." ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim Bir de üstüne yalan bir kan (bulaşdırılmış olan) gömleğini getirdiler. (Ya'kub) dedi ki: "Hayır, nefisleriniz sizi aldatıb (böyle büyük) bir işe sürüklemiş. Artık (bana düşen) güzel bir sabırdır. Sizin şu anlatışınıza karşı yardımına sığınılacak, (ancak) Allahdır". ### İbni Kesir Onlar sahte bir kan ile gömleğini getirdiler. Dedi ki: Hayır, nefisleriniz sizi aldatıp bir işe sürüklemiş. Artık bana güzelce bir sabır gerekir. Sizin şu anlattıklarınıza karşı yardımına sığınılacak, Allah'tır. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı (Böyle diyerek) üzerinde yalancı bir kan lekesi bulunan (Yusuf'un) gömleğini çıkarıp gösterdiler. (Yakub:) "Yoo" dedi, "sizi kendi hayal gücünüz bu kötü oyuna sürükledi! Artık (bana düşen) güzelce sabretmektir. Ve bu anlattığınız bahtsızlığa karşı bana dayanma gücü bahşetmesi için kendisine yönelebileceğim (yegane) hami Allah'tır." ### Şaban Piriş — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Anlamı Ve ona üzerine sahte bir kan ile Yusuf'un gömleğini getirdiler. Babaları: -Hayır, sizi nefsiniz bu işi yapmaya sürükledi. Bana da sabretmek kaldı. Anlattıklarınıza ancak Allah'tan yardım istenir, dedi. ### Süleyman Ateş — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Yüce Meali (Yusuf'un) gömleğinin üstünde yalan kan getirdiler. (Ya'kub): "Herhalde, dedi, nefisleriniz sizi aldatıp bir işe sürükledi. Artık tek çarem güzelce sabretmektir. Dediğinize (dayanmak için) ancak Allan'tan yardım istenir!" ### Yaşar Nuri Öztürk — Kur'an-ı Kerim Meali Yusuf'un gömleği üstüne sahte bir kan çalmışlardı, getirdiler. Babaları dedi ki: "İş, söylediğiniz gibi değil. Nefisleriniz sizi aldatıp bir işe itmiş. Artık bana düşen, güzelce sabretmek.
