Surah Yunus (Jonas) — سورة يونس - **Verse:** 90 / 109 · **Juz:** 11 · **Mushaf page:** 218 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-yunus/verse-90 ## Arabic وَجَاوَزْنَا بِبَن۪ٓي اِسْرَٓائ۪لَ الْبَحْرَ فَاَتْبَعَهُمْ فِرْعَوْنُ وَجُنُودُهُ بَغْياً وَعَدْواًۜ حَتّٰٓى اِذَٓا اَدْرَكَهُ الْغَرَقُۙ قَالَ اٰمَنْتُ اَنَّهُ لَٓا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا الَّـذ۪ٓي اٰمَنَتْ بِه۪ بَنُٓوا اِسْرَٓائ۪لَ وَاَنَا۬ مِنَ الْمُسْلِم۪ينَ ## Transcription Wajawazna bibanee isra-eelaalbahra faatbaAAahum firAAawnu wajunooduhu baghyanwaAAadwan hatta itha adrakahu algharaqu qalaamantu annahu la ilaha illa allatheeamanat bihi banoo isra-eela waana minaalmuslimeen ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley We brought the tribe of Israel across the sea and Pharaoh and his troops pursued them out of tyranny and enmity. Then, when he was on the point of drowning, he said, ‘I believe that there is no god but Him in whom the tribe of Israel believe. I am one of the Muslims.’ ### Progressive Muslims And We helped the Children of Israel cross the sea, and Pharaoh and his soldiers followed them out of hatred and animosity. But when he was certain to drown, he said: "I believe that there is no god except the One in whom the Children of Israel believe, and I am of those who have surrendered." ### Shabbir Ahmed We brought the Children of Israel across the sea, and Pharaoh with his armies pursued them in rage and bitter enmity. " ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) And We took the Children of Israel across the sea, and Pharaoh and his soldiers pursued them in tyranny and enmity until, when drowning overtook him, he said, "I believe that there is no deity except that in whom the Children of Israel believe, and I am of the Muslims. " ### Muhammad Asad And We brought the children of Israel across the sea; and thereupon Pharaoh and his hosts pursued them with vehement insolence and tyranny, until [they were overwhelmed by the waters of the sea. And] when he was about to drown, [Pharaoh] exclaimed: "I have come to believe that there is no deity save Him in whom the children of Israel believe, and I am of those who surrender themselves unto Him!" ### Marmaduke Pickthall And We brought the Children of Israel across the sea, and Pharaoh with his hosts pursued them in rebellion and transgression, till, when the (fate of) drowning overtook him, he exclaimed: I believe that there is no Allah save Him in Whom the Children of Israel believe, and I am of those who surrender (unto Him). ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary And We led the Children of Israel across the sea. Then Pharaoh and his hosts pursued them in iniquity and transgression until Pharaoh cried out while he was drowning: 'I believe that there is no god but Allah in Whom the Children of Israel believe, and I am also one of those who submit to Allah.[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] The Bible does not mention this happening but the Talmud says explicitly that when he was drowning he said: Who is like Thee, O Lord, among the gods? ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab We led Bani Isra‘il (the Children of Israel) across the sea whereupon Pharaoh and his troops pursued them with the intention of persecuting them and unjustly and wrongfully torturing them. Such intention had prevailed until the moment when the sea- water overwhelmed them in abundance and Pharaoh realized that he was drowning. There and then he uttered his pining regrets and vain repentances and said: " Now do I realize that there is no Ilah but Him Who has been recognized by Bani Isra‘il and I submit to join those who have conformed to Islam." ### Bijan Moeinian Eventually, I led the children of Israel across the [Red] sea. Then Pharaoh and his army followed them [through the passage opened in the sea] with the hostile intention. When Pharaoh was drowning [due to the closure of the passage by the permission of the Lord], he said: "Now I believe that there is no deity but the Lord in whom the children of Israel have believed. Thus, I declare myself to be a Muslim (submitted to the commandments of God.)" ### Al-Hilali & Khan And We took the Children of Israel across the sea, and Fir‘aun (Pharaoh) with his hosts followed them in oppression and enmity, till when drowning overtook him, he said: "I believe that none has the right to be worshipped but He (Allâh) in Whom the Children of Israel believe, and I am one of the Muslims (those who submit to Allâh’s Will)." ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali We took the Children of Israel across the sea: Pharaoh and his hosts followed them in insolence and spite. At length, when overwhelmed with the flood, he said: "I believe that there is no god except Him Whom the Children of Israel believe in: I am of those who submit (to Allah in Islam)." ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran We brought the Children of Israel across the sea. Then Pharaoh and his soldiers pursued them unjustly and oppressively. But as Pharaoh was drowning, he cried out, "I believe that there is no god except that in whom the Children of Israel believe, and I am ˹now˺ one of those who submit." ### Taqi Usmani And We let the children of Isrā’īl cross the sea. " ### Mahmoud Ghali And We made the Seeds (Or: sons) of Israel) pass over the sea; then Firaawn and his hosts followed them up inequitably and aggressively till, when the drowning overtook him, he said, "I believe that there is no god except He in Whom the Seeds of believe, and I am one of the Muslims. " ### George Sale And we caused the children of Israel to pass through the sea; and Pharaoh and his army followed them in a violent and hostile manner; until, when he was drowning, he said, I believe that there is no God but He, on whom the children of Israel believe; and I am one of the resigned. ### Syed Vickar Ahamed And We took the Children of Israel across the sea: Firon (Pharaoh) and his armies followed them with pride and anger. At the end, when overpowered with flood, he said: "I believe that there is no god except He in Whom the Children of Israel believe: I am of those who bow (to Allah in Islam)." ### Amatul Rahman Omar And We brought the Children of Israel across the sea, and Pharaoh and his legion pursued them in wanton aggression and for no justified cause till when he (Pharaoh) was about to be drowned, he cried, `I (confess and) believe that there is no One worthy of worship but He in Whom the Children of Israel have believed in, and I am of those who submit (to Him). Firavun da, askerleriyle birlikte zulmetmek ve saldırmak üzere, derhal onları takibe koyuldu. Nihayet boğulmak üzere iken, "İsrailoğulları'nın iman ettiğinden başka hiçbir ilah olmadığına inandım. Ben de müslümanlardanım" dedi. ### Elmalılı Hamdi Yazır — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Yüce Meali Derken Beni İsraili denizi geçirdik, derhal Fir'avn askerile ta'kıb ve taaruz için arkalarına düştü, nihayet gark kendini derdest edince; inandım hakıkat Beni İsrailin iyman ettiğinden başka ilah yok, ben de ona teslim olanlardanım, dedi ### Elmalılı (sadeleştirilmiş) Derken İsrail oğullarını denizden geçirdik. Firavun askerleriyle takip ve taarruz etmek için derhal arkalarına düştü. Sonunda boğulma kendini sıkboğaz edince: "İnandım, gerçekten de İsrail oğullarının iman ettiği Allah'tan başka tanrı yok, ben de O'na teslimiyet gösterenlerdenim!" dedi. ### Gültekin Onan Biz, İsrailoğullarını denizden geçirdik; Firavun ve askerleri azgınlıkla ve düşmanlıkla peşlerine düştü. Sular onu boğacak düzeye erişince (Firavun): "İsrailoğullarının kendisine inandığından başka tanrı olmadığına inandım ve ben de müslümanlardanım" dedi. ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim Israil oğullarını denizden (selametle) geçirdik. Hemen Fir'avn, askerleriyle beraber, zulmederek ve saldırarak, arkalarına düşdü. Nihayet su onu boğmıya başlayınca (şöyle) dedi: "İnandım. Hakıykat İsrail oğullarının iman etdiğinden başka Tanrı yokmuş. Ben de müslümanlardanım". ### İbni Kesir İsrailoğullarına da denizi geçirdik. Firavun ve askerleri haksızlık ve düşmanlıkla ardlarına düştüler. Firavun boğulacağı anda: İsrailoğullarının iman ettiğinden başka tanrı olmadığına inandım. Artık ben de müslümanlardanım, dedi. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı Derken İsrailoğulları'nı denizin öte yakasına geçirdik; bunun üzerine Firavun ve ordusu hışımla onların ardına düştü, (denizin dalgaları onları örtüp de Firavun) boğulmak üzereyken: "Elhak, inandım," dedi, "İsrailoğulları'nın inandığı Tanrı'dan başka tanrı yok! Ve ben de artık kendini yürekten O'na teslim eden kimselerdenim!" ### Şaban Piriş — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Anlamı İsrailoğullarını denizden geçirdik. Nihayet boğulma kendisini yakalayınca (Fir'avn): "Gerçekten İsrail oğullarının inandığından başka tanrı olmadığına inandım, ben de müslümanlardanım!" dedi. ### Yaşar Nuri Öztürk — Kur'an-ı Kerim Meali Ve İsrailoğullarını denizden geçirdik. Firavun ve ordusu, azgınlık ve düşmanlıkla onları izlemekteydi. Nihayet, boğulma ümüğüne çökünce şöyle dedi: "İman ettim. İsrailoğullarının inanmış olduğu dışında ilah yok.
