Surah Yunus (Jonas) — سورة يونس - **Verse:** 54 / 109 · **Juz:** 11 · **Mushaf page:** 214 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-yunus/verse-54 ## Arabic وَلَوْ اَنَّ لِكُلِّ نَفْسٍ ظَلَمَتْ مَا فِي الْاَرْضِ لَافْتَدَتْ بِه۪ۜ وَاَسَرُّوا النَّدَامَةَ لَمَّا رَاَوُا الْعَذَابَۚ وَقُضِيَ بَيْنَهُمْ بِالْقِسْطِ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ ## Transcription Walaw anna likulli nafsin thalamatma fee al-ardi laftadat bihi waasarroo annadamatalamma raawoo alAAathaba waqudiya baynahum bilqistiwahum la yuthlamoon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley If every self that did wrong possessed everything on earth, it would offer it as a ransom. They will show remorse when they see the punishment. Everything will be decided between them justly. They will not be wronged. ### Progressive Muslims And if every soul that wronged had possessed all that is on Earth, it would have attempted to ransom it. And they declared their regret when they saw the retribution, and it was judged between them with fairness. They were not wronged. ### Shabbir Ahmed Whoever oppresses people, has wronged his own "Self". Even if they possessed everything on earth, they would readily present it as ransom. But they will be ashamed within themselves, when they see the doom. And they will confide regret when they see the punishment; and they will be judged in justice, and they will not be wronged ### Muhammad Asad And all human beings that have been doing evil's would surely, if they possessed all that is on earth, offer it as ransom [on Judgment Day]; and when they see the suffering [that awaits them], they will be unable to express their remorse. But judgment will be passed on them in all equity; and they will not be wronged. ### Marmaduke Pickthall And if each soul that doeth wrong had all that is in the earth it would seek to ransom itself therewith; and they will feel remorse within them, when they see the doom. But it hath been judged between them fairly and they are not wronged. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary If a wrong-doer had all that is in the earth he would surely offer it to ransom himself. When the wrong-doers perceive the chastisement, they will feel intense remorse in their hearts.[1] But a judgement shall be made with full justice about them. They shall not be wronged. _Footnotes_ - [1] "And they will feel remorse". When all of a sudden, they face the torment on the Day, which they had denied throughout their lives, and on that presumption had gone on doing wrong deeds. Not only this: they will also feel very sorry that they had denied the Messengers and brought baseless charges against them, who had warned them of it. Therefore when they witness it against all their expectations, they will find the ground slipping from under their feet and will feel utterly helpless and guilty in their minds because of the remembrance of their wrong doings and of the pricking of their conscience. In short, their condition will be that of a gambler, who turns a deaf ear to the counsel of his well wishers and stakes his all on mere speculation and goes bankrupt. But such a person has to blame none but himself only for his sad plight. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab If every sinful soul were so affluent that it held in possession all the riches on earth, it would gladly pay it in expiation of its guilt with pining regrets and vain repentances when they are confronted with the horrid punishment. There and then they are judged with equity and justice and no one shall ever be wronged. ### Bijan Moeinian Every soul, who has been unjust to himself, will gladly pay whatever in the world he owns, to escape from his doom. When they feel the torture that they have to go through, they will be absolutely sorry for what they have done. They will be judged fairly without the least injustice. ### Al-Hilali & Khan And if every person who had wronged (by disbelieving in Allâh and by worshipping others besides Allâh) possessed all that is on the earth and sought to ransom himself therewith (it will not be accepted), and they would feel in their hearts regret when they see the torment, and they will be judged with justice, and no wrong will be done unto them.[1] ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Every soul that hath sinned, if it possessed all that is on earth, would fain give it in ransom: They would declare (their) repentance when they see the penalty: but the judgment between them will be with justice, and no wrong will be done unto them. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran If every wrongdoer were to possess everything in the world, they would surely ransom themselves with it. Onlar azabı görünce peşimanlıklarını açıklarlar. (Ne çare ki) aralarında, kendilerine haksızlık yapılmaksızın, adaletle hüküm olunmuşdur. ### İbni Kesir Yeryüzünde bulunan her şey, nefsine zulmeden kimsenin olsaydı, onu fidye verirdi. Azabı gördükleri zaman içlerinde pişmanlık duyarlar. Halbuki onlar haksızlığa uğratılmadan aralarında adaletle hükmolunmuştur. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı Haksızlık yapan herkes, dünyadaki her şey onun olsa, (o Gün) onu kurtulmak için fidye olarak verirdi. Ve (o zalimler kendilerini bekleyen) azabı görünce pişmanlıklarını gösterecek gücü (bile) kendilerinde bulamayacaklar. Yine de onlar hakkında adaletle yargıda bulunulacak; kendilerine zulmedilmeyecektir. ### Şaban Piriş — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Anlamı Zulmetmiş herkes yeryüzündeki her şeyi fidye olarak vermek ister.. Azabı gördüklerinde pişmanlık duyarlar.
