Surah Ya-Sin (Ya-Sin) — سورة يس - **Verse:** 33 / 83 · **Juz:** 23 · **Mushaf page:** 441 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-ya-sin/verse-33 ## Arabic وَاٰيَةٌ لَهُمُ الْاَرْضُ الْمَيْتَةُۚ اَحْيَيْنَاهَا وَاَخْرَجْنَا مِنْهَا حَباًّ فَمِنْهُ يَأْكُلُونَ ## Transcription Waayatun lahumu al-ardualmaytatu ahyaynaha waakhrajna minhahabban faminhu ya/kuloon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley A Sign for them is the dead land which We bring to life and from which We bring forth grain of which they eat. ### Progressive Muslims And a sign for them is the dead land, We revive it and produce from it seeds from which they eat. ### Shabbir Ahmed And yet, there is a Sign for them in the lifeless earth which We revive and We bring forth from it grain so that they eat thereof. We revive it, and We bring forth from it grain so that they eat thereof; ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Let the[1] dead earth be a Sign for them.[2] We gave it life and produced from it grain whereof they eat. _Footnotes_ - [1] Until now the disbelieves of Makkah were being warned and reproved for their denial of the truth and their attitude of antagonism which they had adopted towards the Prophet (peace be upon him). Now the discourse turns to the basic thing which was the actual cause of the conflict between them and the Prophet (peace be upon him), i.e. the doctrine of Tauhid and the Hereafter, which the Prophet (peace be upon him) was presenting and the disbelievers were refusing to accept. In this connection, some arguments have been given, one after the other, to make the people ponder over the realities, as if to say: Observe these phenomena of the universe, which are ever present before you.
