Surah Ya-Sin (Ya-Sin) — سورة يس - **Verse:** 15 / 83 · **Juz:** 22 · **Mushaf page:** 440 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-ya-sin/verse-15 ## Arabic قَالُوا مَٓا اَنْتُمْ اِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِثْلُنَاۙ وَمَٓا اَنْزَلَ الرَّحْمٰنُ مِنْ شَيْءٍۙ اِنْ اَنْتُمْ اِلَّا تَكْذِبُونَ ## Transcription Qaloo ma antum illabasharun mithluna wama anzala arrahmanumin shay-in in antum illa takthiboon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley They said, ‘You are nothing but human beings like ourselves. The All-Merciful has not sent down anything. You are simply lying.’ ### Progressive Muslims They replied: "You are but human beings like us, and the Almighty did not send down anything, you are only telling lies. " ### Shabbir Ahmed But the people said, "You are nothing but human beings like us. The Beneficent has never revealed anything. You are but lying." You are only telling lies." ### Muhammad Asad [The others] answered: "You are nothing but mortal men like ourselves; moreover, the Most Gracious has never bestowed aught [of revelation] from on high. You do nothing but lie!" ### Marmaduke Pickthall They said: Ye are but mortals like unto us. The Beneficent hath naught revealed. Ye do but lie! ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary They said: "We have been sent to you as Messengers." The people of the town said: “You are only human beings like ourselves,[1] and the Merciful Lord has revealed nothing.[2] You are simply lying.” _Footnotes_ - [1] In other words, what they wanted to say was: Since you are human beings, you cannot be the messengers of God. The same was the view of the disbelievers of Makkah. They also said: Muhammad cannot be a messenger because he is a man. - [2] They say: What sort of a Messenger is he that he eats food and moves about in the streets. (Surah Al-Furqan, Ayat 7). ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab But the inhabitants said: "But you are simply mortals like us and never did Allah, AL-Rahman, disclose divine knowledge or anything else to a mortal: "You are indeed liars. " ### Bijan Moeinian They said: "You are nothing but human beings like us and God, the most Gracious has not sent anything through you and you are surely liars. " ### Al-Hilali & Khan They (people of the town) said: "You are only human beings like ourselves, and the Most Gracious (Allâh) has revealed nothing.
