Surah Taha (Ta-Ha) — سورة طه - **Verse:** 115 / 135 · **Juz:** 16 · **Mushaf page:** 319 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-taha/verse-115 ## Arabic وَلَقَدْ عَهِدْنَٓا اِلٰٓى اٰدَمَ مِنْ قَبْلُ فَنَسِيَ وَلَمْ نَجِدْ لَهُ عَزْماً۟ ## Transcription Walaqad AAahidna ila adamamin qablu fanasiya walam najid lahu AAazma ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley We made a contract with Adam before, but he forgot. We did not find that he had a firm resolve. ### Progressive Muslims And We had made a pledge to Adam from before, but he forgot, and We did not find in him the will power. ### Shabbir Ahmed (Without Divine guidance of Revelation man is easily fallible. ) And indeed, long ago We made a covenant with Adam (the mankind) that he would hold fast to Our Commands, but he forgot, and We found no constancy in him. We found him lacking in firmness of resolution.[3] _Footnotes_ - [1] From here begins a new discourse, which probably was revealed some time after the preceding discourse see (E.N. 90), and it was incorporated in this Surah by the command of Allah because both deal with the same theme. The following are the similarities between the two: - [2] (1) Both the discourses remind mankind of the forgotten lesson, the admonition, which Allah had taught man on the occasion of his creation. - [3] (2) Both teach that it is Satan who seduces man to forget that lesson. He succeeded in this by causing his first parents to forget it. Since then he has been forgetting it over and over again and, therefore, has been cautioned against this. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab We entered into a covenant with Adam but he forgot and We found him irresolute; he lacked firmness of purpose. ### Bijan Moeinian I took a promise from Adam (to obey the Lord) but he forgot (and followed what Satan suggested him. ) He proved to be weak in will power. ### Al-Hilali & Khan And indeed We made a covenant with Adam before, but he forgot, and We found on his part no firm will-power. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali We had already, beforehand, taken the covenant of Adam, but he forgot: and We found on his part no firm resolve. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran And indeed, We once made a covenant with Adam, but he forgot, and ˹so˺ We did not find determination in him. ### Taqi Usmani We had given a directive to ’Ādam earlier, then he forgot, and We did not find in him a firm resolve. ### Abdul Haleem We also commanded Adam before you, but he forgot and We found him lacking in constancy. ### Arthur John Arberry And We made covenant with Adam before, but he forgot, and We found in him no constancy. ### E.
