Surah Sad (The letter Saad) — سورة ص - **Verse:** 8 / 88 · **Juz:** 23 · **Mushaf page:** 452 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-sad/verse-8 ## Arabic ءَاُنْزِلَ عَلَيْهِ الذِّكْرُ مِنْ بَيْنِنَاۜ بَلْ هُمْ ف۪ي شَكٍّ مِنْ ذِكْر۪يۚ بَلْ لَمَّا يَذُوقُوا عَذَابِۜ ## Transcription Aonzila AAalayhi aththikru minbaynina bal hum fee shakkin min thikree bal lammayathooqoo AAathab ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Has the Reminder been sent down to him out of all of us?’ They are in doubt about My Reminder. They have yet to taste My punishment. ### Progressive Muslims "Has the remembrance been sent down to him, from between all of us!" Indeed, they are doubtful of My reminder. Indeed, they have not yet tasted My retribution. ### Shabbir Ahmed What! Has the Reminder come down only to him among us?" Nay, in fact, it is My Own Reminder that they distrust (and not you O Prophet). Rather, they are in doubt about My message. Rather, they have not yet tasted My punishment. ### Muhammad Asad What! Upon him alone from among all of us should a [divine] reminder have been bestowed from on high?" Nay, but it is My Own reminder that they distrust! Nay, they have not yet tasted the suffering which I do impose! ### Marmaduke Pickthall Hath the reminder been unto him (alone) among us? Nay, but they are in doubt concerning My reminder; nay but they have not yet tasted My doom. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Has this Exhortation been sent down among us only to him, to the exclusion of all others?" Nay, they are in doubt regarding My Exhortation,[1] and are saying all this because they have not yet had any taste of My chastisement. _Footnotes_ - [1] In other words Allah says: Muhammad, these people are not belying you but Me. As for your truthfulness, they had never doubted it before. Now that they are doubting it, it is because of My Admonition. Now that I have entrusted to you the mission of admonishing them, they have started doubting the truthfulness of the very person whose righteousness and piety they used to swear by. The same theme has also been discussed in (Surah Al-Anaam, Ayat 33 and E.N. 21) thereof. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab "Who would credit" they added, "that of all of us he Muhammad was taken by preference to be entrusted with the divine message!" "The fact is" says Allah. "that they -the infidels- are in doubt of My divine message and they have not yet experienced the taste of My retributive punishment." ### Bijan Moeinian "How come he is the only one that God has sent upon His admonitions?" Nay, they have not yet tasted My Punishment! ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran Has the Reminder been revealed ˹only˺ to him out of ˹all of˺ us?" In fact, they are ˹only˺ in doubt of My ˹revealed˺ Reminder.[1] In fact, ˹they do so because˺ they have not yet tasted My punishment. ### Taqi Usmani Is it (believable) that the message of advice has been sent down to him (alone) from among all of us?"
