Surah Saba (Sheba) — سورة سَبَأ - **Verse:** 45 / 54 · **Juz:** 22 · **Mushaf page:** 432 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-saba/verse-45 ## Arabic وَكَذَّبَ الَّذ۪ينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْۙ وَمَا بَلَغُوا مِعْشَارَ مَٓا اٰتَيْنَاهُمْ فَكَذَّبُوا رُسُل۪ي۠ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ نَك۪يرِ۟ ## Transcription Wakaththaba allatheena minqablihim wama balaghoo miAAshara ma ataynahumfakaththaboo rusulee fakayfa kana nakeer ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Those before them also denied the truth but these people do not have even a tenth of what We gave to them. They denied My Messengers. And how complete was My denial! ### Progressive Muslims And those before them had also denied, while they did not reach one tenth of what We have given to this generation, so they denied My messengers, how severe was My retribution! ### Shabbir Ahmed Thus too, nations before them had rejected the Message. These people have not received a tenth of the power and wealth that We had bestowed upon them. But the former peoples denied My messengers, so how [terrible] was My reproach. ### Muhammad Asad Thus, too, gave the lie to the truth [many of] those who lived before them; and although those [earlier people] had not attained to even a tenth of [the evidence of the truth] which We have vouch­safed unto these [late successors of theirs], yet when they gave the lie to My apostles, how awesome was My rejection! ### Marmaduke Pickthall Those before them denied, and these have not attained a tithe of that which We bestowed on them (of old); yet they denied My messengers. How intense then was My abhorrence (of them)! ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Those who went before them also denounced (Allah's Messengers) as liars. They have not attained even a tenth of what We had given them. But when they rejected My Messengers, calling them liars, how terrible was My chastisement![1] _Footnotes_ - [1] That is, the people of Makkah have not attained even one-tenth of the power and grandeur and prosperity that was possessed by those people. But just see how they went to their doom ultimately and their power and wealth could not avail them anything, when they refused to believe in the realities presented before them by the Prophets, and founded their system of life on falsehood. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Similarly acted those who preceded them, they denied Our divine message and they rejected the truth, notwithstanding Allah's grace abounding in them. Affluence inflated them with pride whereas these people have not attained one tenth of what those of old attained: affluence in knowledge, wealth, power and the art of construction. Puffed up, they accused Our Messengers of falsehoods and how evil was the end for which they were destined. ### Bijan Moeinian The previous disbelievers, who treated My Prophets as liars, were severely punished even though they did not receive even one tenth of the proofs shown to these disbelievers. ### Al-Hilali & Khan And those before them belied; these have not received even a tenth of what We had granted to those (of old); yet they belied My Messengers. So, they rejected my Messengers.
