Surah Saba (Sheba) — سورة سَبَأ - **Verse:** 42 / 54 · **Juz:** 22 · **Mushaf page:** 432 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-saba/verse-42 ## Arabic فَالْيَوْمَ لَا يَمْلِكُ بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ نَفْعاً وَلَا ضَراًّۜ وَنَقُولُ لِلَّذ۪ينَ ظَلَمُوا ذُوقُوا عَذَابَ النَّارِ الَّت۪ي كُنْتُمْ بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ ## Transcription Falyawma la yamliku baAAdukumlibaAAdin nafAAan wala darran wanaqoolulillatheena thalamoo thooqoo AAathabaannari allatee kuntum biha tukaththiboon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley ‘Today you possess no power to help or harm one another. ’ And We will say to those who did wrong, ‘Taste the punishment of the Fire which you denied.’ ### Progressive Muslims So today, none of you can help or harm one another. And We shall say unto those who did wrong: Taste the doom of the Fire which ye used to deny. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Today none of you has the power to benefit or harm another;[1] and We shall say to the evil-doers: "Taste now the chastisement of the Fire which you used to deny, calling it a lie." _Footnotes_ - [1] In this sentence, jinn implies the satans among the jinns. The answer means: Apparently these people worshipped us, by mentioning our names and by making our images according to their imaginations. But, in fact, they did not worship us but worshipped the satans, for the satans only had shown them the way that they should regard others than Allah as fulfillers of their needs, and should make offerings before them. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab There and then shall all he told: "This is the day on which none of you has power over the others nor can any of you avail or do harm to the others".
