Surah Qaf (The letter Qaaf) — سورة ق - **Verse:** 45 / 45 · **Juz:** 26 · **Mushaf page:** 519 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-qaf/verse-45 ## Arabic نَحْنُ اَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ وَمَٓا اَنْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِجَبَّارٍ فَذَكِّرْ بِالْقُرْاٰنِ مَنْ يَخَافُ وَع۪يدِ ## Transcription Nahnu aAAlamu bima yaqooloonawama anta AAalayhim bijabbarin fathakkir bilqur-animan yakhafu waAAeed ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley We know best what they say. You are not a dictator over them. So remind, with the Qur’an, whoever fears My Threat. ### Progressive Muslims We are totally aware of what they say, and you are not to be a tyrant over them. So remind with the Quran those who fear My promise. ### Shabbir Ahmed We know full well whatever they say, and you are, by no means, a compeller over them. Nevertheless, remind with this Qur'an, any who would fear My warning! ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation We best know what they say; and thou art not a tyrant over them. But remind thou with the Qur’an him who fears My warning. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation We are fully aware of what they say; and you are not a tyrant over them. But remind by the Qur'an whoever fears My threat. ### Muhammad Asad Fully aware are We of what they [who deny resurrection] do say; and thou canst by no means force them [to believe in it]. Yet none the less, remind, through this Qur’an, all such as may fear My warning. ### Marmaduke Pickthall We are Best Aware of what they say, and thou (O Muhammad) art in no wise a compeller over them. But warn by the Qur'an him who feareth My threat. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary (O Prophet), We are well aware of what they say;[1] and you are not required to force things on them. So exhort with the Qur'an all those who fear My warning.[2] _Footnotes_ - [1] In this sentence there is consolation for the Prophet (peace be upon him) as well as a threat for the disbelievers. Addressing the Prophet (peace be upon him) it has been said: Do not care at all about what these foolish people utter about you. We are hearing everything and it is for Us to deal with it. The disbelievers are being warned to the effect: The taunting remarks that you are passing against Our Prophet will cost you dearly. We are hearing everything that you utter and you will have to suffer for its consequences. - [2] This does not mean that the Prophet (peace be upon him) wanted to compel the people into believing and Allah stopped him from this. But, in fact, although the Prophet (peace be upon him) has been addressed, the disbelievers are being warned, as if to say: Our Prophet has not been sent as a dictator over you. He is not there to compel you to become believers even if you did not wish to believe. His only responsibility is that he should recite the Quran and make the truth plain to the one who would take the warning. Now, if you do not accept his invitation, We will deal with you, not he. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab We know best what they -the infidels- say, and you O Muhammad never forced them to follow you or your admonition nor did you erect among them tyrannies. Therefore, keep reminding people of their duty to Allah, their Creator, and proclaim the Quran to those who regard Allah's warning with reverence and awe, tinged with latent fear. ### Bijan Moeinian Indeed I (God) know what the disbelievers say. You (Mohammad) are not in a position to oblige them to embrace Islam. Your only task is to admonish those who mind my warnings with this Qur’an. ### Al-Hilali & Khan We know best what they say. And you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) are not the one to force them (to Belief). But warn by the Qur’an; him who fears My Threat. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali We know best what they say; and thou art not one to overawe them by force. So admonish with the Qur'an such as fear My Warning! ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran We know best what they say. And you ˹O Prophet˺ are not ˹there˺ to compel them ˹to believe˺. So remind with the Quran ˹only˺ those who fear My warning. ### Taqi Usmani We know well what they say, and you are not (sent) as one who compels them. So exhort, through the Qur’ān, the one who fears My warning. ### Abdul Haleem We know best what the disbelievers say. You [Prophet] are not there to force them, so remind, with this Quran, those who fear My warning. ### Arthur John Arberry We know very well what they say; thou art not a tyrant over them.
