_In the name of God, the Almighty, the Merciful._

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ

## Verse 1

قٓ۠ وَالْقُرْاٰنِ الْمَج۪يدِۚ

Qaf walqur-ani almajeed

qāf By the glorious Qur’an!

## Verse 2

بَلْ عَجِبُٓوا اَنْ جَٓاءَهُمْ مُنْذِرٌ مِنْهُمْ فَقَالَ الْـكَافِرُونَ هٰذَا شَيْءٌ عَج۪يبٌ

Bal AAajiboo an jaahum munthirunminhum faqala alkafiroona hatha shay-onAAajeeb

The truth is, they marvel that a warner has come to them from among them. And the false claimers of guidance say: “This is an amazing thing:

## Verse 3

ءَاِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَاباًۚ ذٰلِكَ رَجْعٌ بَع۪يدٌ

A-itha mitna wakunna turabanthalika rajAAun baAAeed

“When we are dead and become dust[...]? That is a far return!”

## Verse 4

قَدْ عَلِمْنَا مَا تَنْقُصُ الْاَرْضُ مِنْهُمْۚ وَعِنْدَنَا كِتَابٌ حَف۪يظٌ

Qad AAalimna ma tanqusual-ardu minhum waAAindana kitabun hafeeth

We know what the earth diminishes of them. And with Us is a preserving Writ.

## Verse 5

بَلْ كَذَّبُوا بِالْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَٓاءَهُمْ فَهُمْ ف۪ٓي اَمْرٍ مَر۪يجٍ

Bal kaththaboo bilhaqqilamma jaahum fahum fee amrin mareej

The truth is, they denied the truth when it came to them, so they are in a confused state.

## Verse 6

اَفَلَمْ يَنْظُرُٓوا اِلَى السَّمَٓاءِ فَوْقَهُمْ كَيْفَ بَنَيْنَاهَا وَزَيَّنَّاهَا وَمَا لَهَا مِنْ فُرُوجٍ

Afalam yanthuroo ila assama-ifawqahum kayfa banaynaha wazayyannahawama laha min furooj

Have they not looked at the sky above them: — how We have built it, and made it fair, and it has no rifts?

## Verse 7

وَالْاَرْضَ مَدَدْنَاهَا وَاَلْقَيْنَا ف۪يهَا رَوَاسِيَ وَاَنْبَتْنَا ف۪يهَا مِنْ كُلِّ زَوْجٍ بَه۪يجٍۙ

Wal-arda madadnahawaalqayna feeha rawasiya waanbatnafeeha min kulli zawjin baheej

And the earth: — We spread it out, and cast therein firm mountains; and We caused to grow therein every delightsome kind

## Verse 8

تَبْصِرَةً وَذِكْرٰى لِكُلِّ عَبْدٍ مُن۪يبٍ

Tabsiratan wathikralikulli AAabdin muneeb

As means of insight and a reminder for every repenting servant.

## Verse 9

وَنَزَّلْنَا مِنَ السَّمَٓاءِ مَٓاءً مُبَارَكاً فَاَنْبَتْنَا بِه۪ جَنَّاتٍ وَحَبَّ الْحَص۪يدِۙ

Wanazzalna mina assama-imaan mubarakan faanbatna bihi jannatinwahabba alhaseed

And We sent down from the sky blessed water, and caused to grow thereby gardens and the grain of harvest,

## Verse 10

وَالنَّخْلَ بَاسِقَاتٍ لَهَا طَلْعٌ نَض۪يدٌۙ

Wannakhla basiqatinlaha talAAun nadeed

And tall date-palms with spathes in layers

## Verse 11

رِزْقاً لِلْعِبَادِۙ وَاَحْيَيْنَا بِه۪ بَلْدَةً مَيْتاًۜ  كَذٰلِكَ الْخُرُوجُ

Rizqan lilAAibadi waahyaynabihi baldatan maytan kathalika alkhurooj

As a provision for the servants. And therewith gave We life to a dead land. Thus will be the Emergence.

## Verse 12

كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَاَصْحَابُ الرَّسِّ وَثَمُودُۙ

Kaththabat qablahum qawmu noohinwaas-habu arrassi wathamood

There denied before them the people of Noah, and the companions of Al-Rass, and Thamūd,

## Verse 13

وَعَادٌ وَفِرْعَوْنُ وَاِخْوَانُ لُوطٍۙ

WaAAadun wafirAAawnu wa-ikhwanuloot

And ʿĀd, and Pharaoh, and the brethren of Lot,

## Verse 14

وَاَصْحَابُ الْاَيْكَةِ وَقَوْمُ تُبَّعٍۜ  كُلٌّ كَذَّبَ الرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ وَع۪يدِ

Waas-habu al-aykati waqawmutubbaAAin kullun kaththaba arrusula fahaqqawaAAeed

And the companions of the woods, and the people of Tubbaʿ. Every one denied the messengers, so My warning became binding.

## Verse 15

اَفَعَي۪ينَا بِالْخَلْقِ الْاَوَّلِۜ بَلْ هُمْ ف۪ي لَبْسٍ مِنْ خَلْقٍ جَد۪يدٍ۟

AfaAAayeena bilkhalqial-awwali bal hum fee labsin min khalqin jadeed

Were We then wearied by the first creation? Yet they are in doubt about a new creation.

## Verse 16

وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْاِنْسَانَ وَنَعْلَمُ مَا تُوَسْوِسُ بِه۪ نَفْسُهُۚ وَنَحْنُ اَقْرَبُ اِلَيْهِ مِنْ حَبْلِ الْوَر۪يدِ

Walaqad khalaqna al-insanawanaAAlamu ma tuwaswisu bihi nafsuhu wanahnu aqrabuilayhi min habli alwareed

And We have created man; and We know what his soul whispers within him; and We are nearer to him than the jugular vein:

## Verse 17

اِذْ يَتَلَقَّى الْمُتَلَقِّيَانِ عَنِ الْيَم۪ينِ وَعَنِ الشِّمَالِ قَع۪يدٌ

Ith yatalaqqa almutalaqqiyaniAAani alyameeni waAAani ashshimali qaAAeed

When the two recorders record sitting on the right and on the left,

## Verse 18

مَا يَلْفِظُ مِنْ قَوْلٍ اِلَّا لَدَيْهِ رَق۪يبٌ عَت۪يدٌ

Ma yalfithu min qawlinilla ladayhi raqeebun AAateed

He utters not a word save with him is a watcher ready.

## Verse 19

وَجَٓاءَتْ سَكْرَةُ الْمَوْتِ بِالْحَقِّۜ ذٰلِكَ مَا كُنْتَ مِنْهُ تَح۪يدُ

Wajaat sakratu almawti bilhaqqithalika ma kunta minhu taheed

And the intoxication of death will bring the truth: — “That is what thou wast avoiding!” —

## Verse 20

وَنُفِـخَ فِي الصُّورِۜ ذٰلِكَ يَوْمُ الْوَع۪يدِ

Wanufikha fee assoori thalikayawmu alwaAAeed

And the Trumpet will be blown; that is the Day of Warning!

## Verse 21

وَجَٓاءَتْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَعَهَا سَٓائِقٌ وَشَه۪يدٌ

Wajaat kullu nafsin maAAaha sa-iqunwashaheed

And every soul will come, with it a driver and a witness:

## Verse 22

لَقَدْ كُنْتَ ف۪ي غَفْلَةٍ مِنْ هٰذَا فَـكَشَفْنَا عَنْكَ غِطَٓاءَكَ فَبَصَرُكَ الْيَوْمَ حَد۪يدٌ

Laqad kunta fee ghaflatin min hathafakashafna AAanka ghitaaka fabasarukaalyawma hadeed

“Thou wast in heedlessness of this; and We have removed from thee thy veil, and sharp is thy sight this day!”

## Verse 23

وَقَالَ قَر۪ينُهُ هٰذَا مَا لَدَيَّ عَت۪يدٌۜ

Waqala qareenuhu hatha maladayya AAateed

And his companion will say: “This is what is with me prepared.”

## Verse 24

اَلْقِيَا ف۪ي جَهَنَّمَ كُلَّ كَفَّارٍ عَن۪يدٍۙ

Alqiya fee jahannama kulla kaffarinAAaneed

“Cast, you twain, into Gehenna every obstinate rejecter,

## Verse 25

مَنَّاعٍ لِلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدٍ مُر۪يبٍۙ

MannaAAin lilkhayri muAAtadin mureeb

“Hinderer of good, transgressor, doubter,

## Verse 26

اَلَّذ۪ي جَعَلَ مَعَ اللّٰهِ اِلٰهاً اٰخَرَ فَاَلْقِيَاهُ فِي الْعَذَابِ الشَّد۪يدِ

Allathee jaAAala maAAa Allahiilahan akhara faalqiyahu fee alAAathabiashshadeed

“Who set up, with God, another god! Cast him, you twain, into the severe punishment!”

## Verse 27

قَالَ قَر۪ينُهُ رَبَّنَا مَٓا اَطْغَيْتُهُ وَلٰكِنْ كَانَ ف۪ي ضَلَالٍ بَع۪يدٍ

Qala qareenuhu rabbana maatghaytuhu walakin kana fee dalalinbaAAeed

His companion will say: “Our Lord: I did not cause him to transgress, but he was in extreme error.”

## Verse 28

قَالَ لَا تَخْتَصِمُوا لَدَيَّ وَقَدْ قَدَّمْتُ اِلَيْكُمْ بِالْوَع۪يدِ

Qala la takhtasimooladayya waqad qaddamtu ilaykum bilwaAAeed

He will say: “Contend not before Me; I had sent the warning ahead to you.

## Verse 29

مَا يُبَدَّلُ الْقَوْلُ لَدَيَّ وَمَٓا اَنَا۬ بِظَلَّامٍ لِلْعَب۪يدِ۟

Ma yubaddalu alqawlu ladayya wamaana bithallamin lilAAabeed

“The word with Me will not be changed; and I am not unjust to the servants.”

## Verse 30

يَوْمَ نَقُولُ لِجَهَنَّمَ هَلِ امْتَلَأْتِ وَتَقُولُ هَلْ مِنْ مَز۪يدٍ

Yawma naqoolu lijahannama hali imtala/tiwataqoolu hal min mazeed

The day We say to Gehenna: “Art thou filled?” And it will say: “Is there any more?”

## Verse 31

وَاُزْلِفَتِ الْجَنَّةُ لِلْمُتَّق۪ينَ غَيْرَ بَع۪يدٍ

Waozlifati aljannatu lilmuttaqeena ghayrabaAAeed

And the Garden will be brought nigh: — to those of prudent fear, not far —

## Verse 32

هٰذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِكُلِّ اَوَّابٍ حَف۪يظٍۚ

Hatha ma tooAAadoona likulliawwabin hafeeth

“This is what you were promised, for every preserving penitent,

## Verse 33

مَنْ خَشِيَ الرَّحْمٰنَ بِالْغَيْبِ وَجَٓاءَ بِقَلْبٍ مُن۪يبٍ

Man khashiya arrahmanabilghaybi wajaa biqalbin muneeb

“Who feared the Almighty unseen, and came with a repentant heart:

## Verse 34

اُدْخُلُوهَا بِسَلَامٍۜ ذٰلِكَ يَوْمُ الْخُلُودِ

Odkhulooha bisalamin thalikayawmu alkhulood

“Enter it in peace!” That is the Day of Eternity;

## Verse 35

لَهُمْ مَا يَشَٓاؤُ۫نَ ف۪يهَا وَلَدَيْنَا مَز۪يدٌ

Lahum ma yashaoona feehawaladayna mazeed

They have what they desire therein; and with Us is more.

## Verse 36

وَكَمْ اَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُمْ مِنْ قَرْنٍ هُمْ اَشَدُّ مِنْهُمْ بَطْشاً فَنَقَّبُوا فِي الْبِلَادِۜ هَلْ مِنْ مَح۪يصٍ

Wakam ahlakna qablahum min qarnin humashaddu minhum batshan fanaqqaboo fee albiladi halmin mahees

And how many a generation We destroyed before them stronger than them in might! And they penetrated into the land; had they any place of refuge?

## Verse 37

اِنَّ ف۪ي ذٰلِكَ لَذِكْرٰى لِمَنْ كَانَ لَهُ قَلْبٌ اَوْ اَلْقَى السَّمْعَ وَهُوَ شَه۪يدٌ

Inna fee thalika lathikraliman kana lahu qalbun aw alqa assamAAawahuwa shaheed

In that is a reminder for him who has a heart or gives ear with a conscious mind.

## Verse 38

وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ف۪ي سِتَّةِ اَيَّامٍۗ وَمَا مَسَّنَا مِنْ لُغُوبٍ

Walaqad khalaqna assamawatiwal-arda wama baynahuma fee sittatiayyamin wama massana min lughoob

And We created the heavens and the earth and what is between them in six days, and there touched Us no weariness.

## Verse 39

فَاصْبِرْ عَلٰى مَا يَقُولُونَ وَسَبِّـحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ الشَّمْسِ وَقَبْلَ الْغُرُوبِۚ

Fasbir AAala mayaqooloona wasabbih bihamdi rabbika qabla tulooAAiashshamsi waqabla alghuroob

So be thou patient over what they say, and give thou glory with the praise of thy Lord before the rising of the sun, and before its setting.

## Verse 40

وَمِنَ الَّيْلِ فَسَبِّحْهُ وَاَدْبَارَ السُّجُودِ

Wamina allayli fasabbihhu waadbaraassujood

And some of the night, glorify thou Him; and at the ends of the Submission.

## Verse 41

وَاسْتَمِــعْ يَوْمَ يُنَادِ الْمُنَادِ مِنْ مَكَانٍ قَر۪يبٍۙ

WastamiAA yawma yunadi almunadimin makanin qareeb

And listen thou for the day the Caller will call from a near place,

## Verse 42

يَوْمَ يَسْمَعُونَ الصَّيْحَةَ بِالْحَقِّۜ ذٰلِكَ يَوْمُ الْخُرُوجِ

Yawma yasmaAAoona assayhatabilhaqqi thalika yawmu alkhurooj

The day they will hear the Blast in truth: that is the Day of Emergence:

## Verse 43

اِنَّا نَحْنُ نُحْـي۪ وَنُم۪يتُ وَاِلَيْنَا الْمَص۪يرُۙ

Inna nahnu nuhyeewanumeetu wa-ilayna almaseer

— It is We who give life, and We give death; and to Us is the journey’s end —

## Verse 44

يَوْمَ تَشَقَّقُ الْاَرْضُ عَنْهُمْ سِرَاعاًۜ ذٰلِكَ حَشْرٌ عَلَيْنَا يَس۪يرٌ

Yawma tashaqqaqu al-ardu AAanhum siraAAanthalika hashrun AAalayna yaseer

The day the earth is split asunder from about them, they hastening forth; that is a gathering easy for Us.

## Verse 45

نَحْنُ اَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ وَمَٓا اَنْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِجَبَّارٍ فَذَكِّرْ بِالْقُرْاٰنِ مَنْ يَخَافُ وَع۪يدِ

Nahnu aAAlamu bima yaqooloonawama anta AAalayhim bijabbarin fathakkir bilqur-animan yakhafu waAAeed

We best know what they say; and thou art not a tyrant over them. But remind thou with the Qur’an him who fears My warning.
