# 71. Surah Nuh

_In the name of God, the Almighty, the Merciful._

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ

## Verse 1

اِنَّٓا اَرْسَلْنَا نُوحاً اِلٰى قَوْمِه۪ٓ اَنْ اَنْذِرْ قَوْمَكَ مِنْ قَبْلِ اَنْ يَأْتِيَهُمْ عَذَابٌ اَل۪يمٌ

Inna arsalna noohan ilaqawmihi an anthir qawmaka min qabli an ya/tiyahum AAathabunaleem

We sent Noah to his people: “Warn thou thy people before a painful punishment come to them.”

## Verse 2

قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اِنّ۪ي لَـكُمْ نَذ۪يرٌ مُب۪ينٌۙ

Qala ya qawmi innee lakum natheerunmubeen

He said: “O my people: I am to you a clear warner:

## Verse 3

اَنِ اعْبُدُوا اللّٰهَ وَاتَّقُوهُ وَاَط۪يعُونِۙ

Ani oAAbudoo Allaha wattaqoohuwaateeAAoon

“Serve God, and be in prudent fear of Him, and obey me.

## Verse 4

يَغْفِرْ لَـكُمْ مِنْ ذُنُوبِكُمْ وَيُؤَخِّرْكُمْ اِلٰٓى اَجَلٍ مُسَمًّىۜ اِنَّ اَجَلَ اللّٰهِ اِذَا جَٓاءَ لَا يُؤَخَّرُۢ  لَوْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ

Yaghfir lakum min thunoobikumwayu-akhkhirkum ila ajalin musamman inna ajala Allahiitha jaa la yu-akhkharu law kuntumtaAAlamoon

“He will forgive you of your transgressions, and delay you to a stated term; the term of God, when it comes, cannot be delayed, if you but knew.”

## Verse 5

قَالَ رَبِّ اِنّ۪ي دَعَوْتُ قَوْم۪ي لَيْلاً وَنَهَاراًۙ

Qala rabbi innee daAAawtu qawmeelaylan wanahara

He said: “My Lord: I have called my people night and day,

## Verse 6

فَلَمْ يَزِدْهُمْ دُعَٓاء۪ٓي اِلَّا فِرَاراً

Falam yazidhum duAAa-ee illafirara

“But my calling increased them not save in flight.

## Verse 7

وَاِنّ۪ي كُلَّمَا دَعَوْتُهُمْ لِتَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ جَعَلُٓوا اَصَابِعَهُمْ ف۪ٓي اٰذَانِهِمْ وَاسْتَغْشَوْا ثِيَابَهُمْ وَاَصَرُّوا وَاسْتَكْبَرُوا اسْتِكْبَاراًۚ

Wa-innee kullama daAAawtuhumlitaghfira lahum jaAAaloo asabiAAahum fee athanihimwastaghshaw thiyabahum waasarroo wastakbarooistikbara

“And whenever I called them, that Thou mightest forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears and covered themselves with their garments, and persisted, and waxed proudly insolent.

## Verse 8

ثُمَّ اِنّ۪ي دَعَوْتُهُمْ جِهَاراًۙ

Thumma innee daAAawtuhum jihara

“Then I called to them openly;

## Verse 9

ثُمَّ اِنّ۪ٓي اَعْلَنْتُ لَهُمْ وَاَسْرَرْتُ لَهُمْ اِسْرَاراًۙ

Thumma innee aAAlantu lahum waasrartu lahumisrara

“Then I proclaimed to them, and confided to them in secret,

## Verse 10

فَقُلْتُ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ اِنَّهُ  كَانَ غَفَّاراًۙ

Faqultu istaghfiroo rabbakum innahu kanaghaffara

“And I said: ‘Ask forgiveness of your Lord: — He is all-forgiving —

## Verse 11

يُرْسِلِ السَّمَٓاءَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِدْرَاراًۙ

Yursili assamaa AAalaykummidrara

“‘He will send the sky upon you in torrents,

## Verse 12

وَيُمْدِدْكُمْ بِاَمْوَالٍ وَبَن۪ينَ وَيَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ جَنَّاتٍ وَيَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ اَنْهَاراًۜ

Wayumdidkum bi-amwalin wabaneenawayajAAal lakum jannatin wayajAAal lakum anhara

“‘And will supply you with wealth and sons, and make for you gardens, and make for you rivers.’”

## Verse 13

مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَرْجُونَ لِلّٰهِ وَقَاراًۚ

Ma lakum la tarjoona lillahiwaqara

What ails you that you look not for majesty in God,

## Verse 14

وَقَدْ خَلَقَكُمْ اَطْوَاراً

Waqad khalaqakum atwara

When He has created you in stages?

## Verse 15

اَلَمْ تَرَوْا كَيْفَ خَلَقَ اللّٰهُ سَبْعَ سَمٰوَاتٍ طِبَاقاًۙ

Alam taraw kayfa khalaqa AllahusabAAa samawatin tibaqa

Have you not considered how God created seven heavens in harmony,

## Verse 16

وَجَعَلَ الْقَمَرَ ف۪يهِنَّ نُوراً وَجَعَلَ الشَّمْسَ سِرَاجاً

WajaAAala alqamara feehinna nooran wajaAAalaashshamsa siraja

And made the moon therein a light and made the sun a torch?

## Verse 17

وَاللّٰهُ اَنْبَتَكُمْ مِنَ الْاَرْضِ نَبَاتاًۙ

Wallahu anbatakum mina al-ardinabata

And God caused you to grow as a growth from the earth.

## Verse 18

ثُمَّ يُع۪يدُكُمْ ف۪يهَا وَيُخْرِجُكُمْ اِخْرَاجاً

Thumma yuAAeedukum feehawayukhrijukum ikhraja

Then He will return you into it, and bring you forth again.

## Verse 19

وَاللّٰهُ جَعَلَ لَـكُمُ الْاَرْضَ بِسَاطاًۙ

Wallahu jaAAala lakumu al-ardabisata

And God made for you the earth as a carpet,

## Verse 20

لِتَسْلُكُوا مِنْهَا سُبُلاً فِجَاجاً۟

Litaslukoo minha subulan fijaja

That you might follow the broad ways thereof.

## Verse 21

قَالَ نُوحٌ رَبِّ اِنَّهُمْ عَصَوْن۪ي وَاتَّبَعُوا مَنْ لَمْ يَزِدْهُ مَالُهُ وَوَلَدُهُٓ  اِلَّا خَسَاراًۚ

Qala noohun rabbi innahum AAasawneewattabaAAoo man lam yazidhu maluhu wawaladuhu illakhasara

Noah said: “My Lord: they have opposed me, and followed him whose wealth and children increase him not save in loss.

## Verse 22

وَمَكَرُوا مَكْراً كُبَّاراًۚ

Wamakaroo makran kubbara

“And they have schemed a mighty scheme,”

## Verse 23

وَقَالُوا لَا تَذَرُنَّ اٰلِهَتَكُمْ وَلَا تَذَرُنَّ وَداًّ وَلَا سُوَاعاًۙ وَلَا يَغُوثَ وَيَعُوقَ وَنَسْراًۚ

Waqaloo la tatharunna alihatakumwala tatharunna waddan wala suwaAAanwala yaghootha wayaAAooqa wanasra

(And they said: “You are not to leave your gods; and you are not to leave Wadd, or Suwāʿ, or Yaghūth, and Yaʿūq, and Nasr.”)

## Verse 24

وَقَدْ اَضَلُّوا كَث۪يراًۚ وَلَا تَزِدِ الظَّالِم۪ينَ اِلَّا ضَلَالاً

Waqad adalloo katheeran walatazidi aththalimeena illa dalala

“And they have led many astray. And increase Thou not the wrongdoers save in error!”

## Verse 25

مِمَّا خَط۪ٓيـَٔاتِهِمْ اُغْرِقُوا فَاُدْخِلُوا نَاراً فَلَمْ يَجِدُوا لَهُمْ مِنْ دُونِ اللّٰهِ اَنْصَاراً

Mimma khatee-atihimoghriqoo faodkhiloo naran falam yajidoo lahum min dooniAllahi ansara

Because of their offences they were drowned, and made to enter a Fire, and they found for them, besides God, no helpers.

## Verse 26

وَقَالَ نُوحٌ رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْ عَلَى الْاَرْضِ مِنَ الْكَافِر۪ينَ دَيَّاراً

Waqala noohun rabbi latathar AAala al-ardi mina alkafireenadayyara

And Noah said: “My Lord: leave Thou not upon the earth, among the false claimers of guidance, an inhabitant.

## Verse 27

اِنَّكَ اِنْ تَذَرْهُمْ يُضِلُّوا عِبَادَكَ وَلَا يَلِدُٓوا اِلَّا فَاجِراً كَفَّاراً

Innaka in tatharhum yudillooAAibadaka wala yalidoo illa fajirankaffara

“If Thou leave them, they will lead Thy servants astray, and beget not save licentious ingrates.

## Verse 28

رَبِّ اغْفِرْ ل۪ي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِمَنْ دَخَلَ بَيْتِيَ مُؤْمِناً وَلِلْمُؤْمِن۪ينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِۜ وَلَا تَزِدِ الظَّالِم۪ينَ اِلَّا تَبَاراً

Rabbi ighfir lee waliwalidayyawaliman dakhala baytiya mu/minan walilmu/mineena walmu/minatiwala tazidi aththalimeena illatabaran

“My Lord: forgive Thou me and my parents, and him who enters my house as a believer, and the believing men, and the believing women. And increase Thou not the wrongdoers save in ruin!”
