Surah Muhammad (Muhammad) — سورة محمد - **Verse:** 36 / 38 · **Juz:** 26 · **Mushaf page:** 509 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-muhammad/verse-36 ## Arabic اِنَّمَا الْحَيٰوةُ الدُّنْيَا لَعِبٌ وَلَهْوٌۜ وَاِنْ تُؤْمِنُوا وَتَتَّقُوا يُؤْتِكُمْ اُجُورَكُمْ وَلَا يَسْـَٔلْكُمْ اَمْوَالَكُمْ ## Transcription Innama alhayatu addunyalaAAibun walahwun wa-in tu/minoo watattaqoo yu/tikum ojoorakumwala yas-alkum amwalakum ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley The life of this world is merely a game and a diversion. If you have iman and taqwa, He will pay you your wages and not ask you for all your wealth. ### Progressive Muslims This worldly life is no more than play and vanity. But if you believe and lead a righteous life, He will reward you, and He will not ask you for your wealth. ### Shabbir Ahmed The life of this world is but a sport and amusement. He will give you your wages, and will not ask of you your wordly wealth. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary The life of this world is but sport and amusement.[1] If you believe and are God-fearing, He will grant you your reward, and will not ask you for your possessions.[2] _Footnotes_ - [1] That is, as against the Hereafter, this world is no more than a means of temporary entertainment. The success or failure here is not anything real and enduring, which might in any way be important. The real life is the life Hereafter, and its success should be man’s main concern. If He tells you to expend something in His way, He does so not for Himself but only for your own good. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab And keep in mind that life here is but an illusive and rapid change of feeling, fancy and thought, and an amusement which brings happiness to those who cannot think. But if your hearts are impressed with the image of religious and spiritual virtues and you entertain the profound reverend dutiful to Allah, He will pay you all you merit and He will not ask you to spend your wealth in His cause except to give zakat (alms); for zakat is but the vehicle of prayer and if he -the needy- be hungry, it is zakat that feeds him. ### Bijan Moeinian Know that the life of this world is nothing but a game and an entertainment. Zira zenginlik ve refah aynı zamanda insan için şımartıcı ve azgınlaştırıcı özelliğe de sahiptir. "Dünya hayatının aldatmasına" yönelik uyarının amacı, dünya hayatının ahiret hayatını kaybettirmemesidir. Amaç, insanların zaaflarına yenilmeyerek gerçek ve kalıcı olan ahiret zenginliğini öncelemelerini sağlamaktır. ### Süleymaniye Vakfı — Süleymaniye Vakfı Meali Dünya hayatı sadece bir oyun ve oyalanmadır[1].
