Surah Muhammad (Muhammad) — سورة محمد - **Verse:** 35 / 38 · **Juz:** 26 · **Mushaf page:** 509 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-muhammad/verse-35 ## Arabic فَلَا تَهِنُوا وَتَدْعُٓوا اِلَى السَّلْمِۗ وَاَنْتُمُ الْاَعْلَوْنَۗ وَاللّٰهُ مَعَكُمْ وَلَنْ يَتِرَكُمْ اَعْمَالَكُمْ ## Transcription Fala tahinoo watadAAoo ila assalmiwaantumu al-aAAlawna wallahu maAAakum walanyatirakum aAAmalakum ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Do not become faint-hearted and call for peace when you are uppermost and Allah is with you – He would never cheat you of your deeds. ### Progressive Muslims Therefore, do not be weak and ask for peace, for you are on a higher moral ground, and God is with you. And He will not waste your efforts. ### Shabbir Ahmed And so, be not weary and keep calling unto the abode of Peace and Security, for, you shall surely attain high ranks. Allah is with you and will not bring your works to nought. _Footnotes_ - [1] Here, one should bear in mind the fact that when this discourse was revealed only a handful of the Muslims consisting of a couple of hundreds of the Muhajirin and Ansar living in the small town of Madinah were upholding the standard of Islam and they were not only faced by the powerful Quraish but also by the whole of pagan Arabia. Such were the conditions when they were exhorted not to show weakness and not to beg (the enemy) for peace, but to make preparations for the decisive conflict. This does not mean that the Muslims should never negotiate for peace, but it means that in a state like this it is not right to initiate peace negotiations when it shows the Muslims’ weakness, for it will still further embolden the enemy. The Muslims should first establish their superiority in power and strength; then if they negotiate peace there will be no harm. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Therefore do not weaken in power or in strength of purpose nor be tempted to invite your enemy to peace when you are in control of the situation and you have the upper hand. Remember that Allah stands by you to protect you and defend you, and He will not reduce or annul the value of your efforts. ### Bijan Moeinian Do not surrender for the sake of peace as God has guaranteed the victory for you. God is with you; He will never let your struggle to go in vain. ### Al-Hilali & Khan So be not weak and ask not for peace (from the enemies of Islâm) while you are having the upper hand. Böyle günleri, bir ona bir öbürüne, insanlar arasında döndürüp dururuz. Bu, Allah'ın inanmış olanları bilmesi ve içinizden kimilerini şahit tutması içindir. Allah, yanlış yapanları sevmez" Al-i İmran (3/139-140) وَإِنْ جَنَحُوا لِلسَّلْمِ فَاجْنَحْ لَهَا وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ (61) ### Mehmet Okuyan — Kur’an Meal-Tefsir Savaşta üstün durumdayken gevşeyip barışa çağırmayın (barışa çağırmak zorunda kalmayın)![1] Allah sizinle beraberdir. İşte Yüce Allah ayette bu noktada uyarıda bulunmakta ve savaş esnasında gevşeklik göstererek dağılma sürecine girmemelerini ve barış istemek zorunda kalmamalarını müslümanlara öğütlemektedir. Barıştan yana olmamak başka bir şeydir; barışa mecbur kalıp sığınmak bambaşka bir şeydir. Burada sözü edilen durum ikincisidir.
