Surah Muhammad (Muhammad) — سورة محمد - **Verse:** 3 / 38 · **Juz:** 26 · **Mushaf page:** 506 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-muhammad/verse-3 ## Arabic ذٰلِكَ بِاَنَّ الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُوا اتَّبَعُوا الْبَاطِلَ وَاَنَّ الَّذ۪ينَ اٰمَنُوا اتَّبَعُوا الْحَقَّ مِنْ رَبِّهِمْۜ كَذٰلِكَ يَضْرِبُ اللّٰهُ لِلنَّاسِ اَمْثَالَهُمْ ## Transcription Thalika bi-anna allatheenakafaroo ittabaAAoo albatila waanna allatheena amanooittabaAAoo alhaqqa min rabbihim kathalika yadribuAllahu linnasi amthalahum ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley That is because those who are kafir follow falsehood whereas those who have iman follow the truth from their Lord. In that way Allah makes comparisons for mankind. ### Progressive Muslims That is because those who disbelieve followed falsehood, while those who believe followed the truth from their Lord. God thus cites for the people their examples. ### Shabbir Ahmed This, because those who deny the Truth (have no choice but to) follow Falsehood, and those who believe follow the Truth from their Lord. This is how Allah exemplifies concepts to people from within their own composition. ('Amthalahum' = Their own examples = Illustrations from within themselves = Their own demonstrations = Typify from their own). ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation For it is that those who ignore warning follow falsehood, and that those who heed warning follow the truth from their Lord! Thus does God strike for men their similitudes. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation That is because those who reject followed falsehood, while those who believe followed the truth from their Lord. God thus puts forth for the people their examples. ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament This is because those who disbelieve are following falsehood, while those who believe are following the truth from their Lord. GOD thus cites for the people their examples. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira That is because those who refuse to believe only follow what is false; but those who believe follow the truth from their Lord. That is how God gives men precepts of wisdom. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood, and those who believe follow the truth from their Lord. Thus does Allah present to the people their comparisons. ### Muhammad Asad This, because they who are bent on denying the truth pursue falsehood, whereas they who have attained to faith pursue [but] the truth [that flows] from their Sustainer. In this way does God set forth unto man the parables of their true state. ### Marmaduke Pickthall That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood and because those who believe follow the truth from their Lord. Thus Allah coineth their similitudes for mankind. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary That is because those who disbelieved followed falsehood whereas those who believed followed the Truth that came to them from their Lord. One party insists on following falsehood; therefore, Allah has brought all its endeavors to naught. And the other party has adopted obedience of the Truth; therefore, Allah has purified it of its evils and corrected its condition. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Such dispositions: were indeed befitting for the reason that those who denied Allah went in pursuit of the worthless and in vain they wasted their days, while those who believed in Allah with hearts impressed with the image of virtues sought the truth disclosed by Him. Thus Does Allah discourse to people their parables. ### Bijan Moeinian The reason for such an attitude of God is that the disbelievers are following the wrong path and the believers follow their Lord’s order. God is using these examples to bring to the attention of the people the result of their actions and attitudes. ### Al-Hilali & Khan That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood, while those who believe follow the truth from their Lord. Thus does Allâh set forth for mankind their parables. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali This because those who reject Allah follow vanities, while those who believe follow the Truth from their Lord: Thus does Allah set forth for men their lessons by similitudes. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran This is because the disbelievers follow falsehood, while the believers follow the truth from their Lord. This is how Allah shows people their true state ˹of faith˺. ### Taqi Usmani That is because the disbelievers have followed falsehood, while the believers have followed the truth (that has come) from their Lord. This is how Allah explains their (respective) situations to the people. ### Abdul Haleem This is because the disbelievers follow falsehood, while the believers follow the truth from their Lord. In this way God shows people their true type. ### Arthur John Arberry That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood, and those who believe follow the truth from their Lord. Even so God strikes their similitudes for men. ### E. Henry Palmer That is because those who misbelieve follow falsehood, and those who believe follow the truth from their Lord. Thus does God set forth for men their parables. ### Hamid S. Aziz That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood, and because those who believe follow truth from their Lord. Thus Allah makes their similitudes for mankind. ### Mahmoud Ghali That is because the ones who have disbelieved have closely followed untruth and the ones who have believed have closely followed the Truth from their Lord. Thus Allah strikes their similitudes for mankind. ### George Sale This will He do, because those who believe not follow vanity, and because those who believe follow the truth from their Lord. Thus God propoundeth unto men their examples. ### Syed Vickar Ahamed This is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood, while those who believe follow the Truth from their Lord: This way does Allah bring out for men their lessons by similarity. ### Amatul Rahman Omar That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood while those who believe follow the Truth (revealed) from their Lord. That is how Allâh explains their condition to mankind (to make them understand). ### Ali Quli Qarai That is because the faithless follow falsehood, and because the faithful follow the truth from their Lord. İşte Tanrı, insanlara kendi örneklerini böyle vererek gösteriyor. ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim Bunun sebebi şudur Çünkü küfredenler baatıla uymuşlar, iman edenlerse rablerinden (gelen) hakka tabi olmuşlardır. Allah insanlara misallerini böylece açıklar. ### İbni Kesir İşte böyle. Muhakkak ki o küfredenler, batıla uymuşlar ve iman edenler de Rabblarından gelen hakka uymuşlardır. Böylece Allah, insanlara misallerini anlatır. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı Bu böyledir, çünkü hakikati inkara şartlanmış olanlar, sahte ve yalanın arkasından gittikleri halde iman edenler (yalnızca) Rablerinden (gelen) hakikate uyarlar.
