Surah Muhammad (Muhammad) — سورة محمد - **Verse:** 19 / 38 · **Juz:** 26 · **Mushaf page:** 507 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-muhammad/verse-19 ## Arabic فَاعْلَمْ اَنَّهُ لَٓا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَاسْتَغْفِرْ لِذَنْبِكَ وَلِلْمُؤْمِن۪ينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِۜ وَاللّٰهُ يَعْلَمُ مُتَقَلَّبَكُمْ وَمَثْوٰيكُمْ۟ ## Transcription FaAAlam annahu la ilahailla Allahu wastaghfir lithanbikawalilmu/mineena walmu/minati wallahuyaAAlamu mutaqallabakum wamathwakum ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Know then that there is no god except Allah and ask forgiveness for your wrongdoing, and for the men and women who have iman. Allah knows both your activity and your repose. ### Progressive Muslims So know that there is no god besides God, and ask forgiveness of your sins and also for the believing men and believing women. And God knows your movements and your place of rest. ### Shabbir Ahmed So (O Prophet) remain consciously and incessantly aware that there is no 'power' but Allah, and protect yourself against the rumors and slander that the enemy sticks after you, and the believing men, and the believing women. Devise means to counter whatever may cause your community to lag behind in their Mission. For, Allah knows (the meticulous ways) how you move about in your daily lives and what your blessed destination is. ('Wastaghfir' = Protect. Zanb = Tail = Rumors and slander that are stuck behind one's back = Lagging behind like the tail lags behind an animal's body). ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation And know thou that there is no god save God; and ask thou forgiveness for thy transgression, and for the believing men and the believing women. God knows your wanderings and your destination. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) So know, [O Muúammad], that there is no deity except Allah and ask forgiveness for your sin and for the believing men and believing women. And Allah knows of your movement and your resting place. ### Muhammad Asad Know, then, [O man,] that there is no deity save God, and [while there is yet time,] ask forgive­ness for thy sins and for [the sins of] all other believing men and women: for God knows all your comings and goings as well as your abiding [at rest]. ### Marmaduke Pickthall So know (O Muhammad) that there is no Allah save Allah, and ask forgiveness for thy sin and for believing men and believing women. Allah knoweth (both) your place of turmoil and your place of rest. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Know, therefore, (O Prophet), that there is no god but Allah, and ask forgiveness for your shortcomings and also for (the shortcomings of) believing men and believing women.[1] Allah knows the places where you move about and where you dwell. _Footnotes_ - [1] One of the morals taught to man by Islam is also this: However hard and sincerely may man be trying to serve and worship his Lord and fighting and struggling in the cause of His Religion, he should never be involved in the misunderstanding that he has done and accomplished whatever he was required to do. Rather, on the contrary, he should have the feeling that he has not been able to do full justice to what was expected of him by his Lord and Master. Therefore, he should confess his errors constantly and pray to Allah saying Lord, forgive me for whatever fault and error I may have committed in Your service. This is indeed the essence of Allah’s command: O Prophet, ask forgiveness for your fault. This does not mean that God forbid, the Prophet (peace be upon him) had actually committed an error willfully, but its correct meaning is that it did not even behoove the servant who was the greatest worshiper of his Lord that he should harbor even a tinge of the pride of accomplishment in his heart, but his true position also was that in spite of all his great and glorious services he should continue confessing his shortcomings before his Lord. It was under this state of the mind that the Prophet (peace be upon him) often implored his Lord for forgiveness. According to Abu Daud and Nasai, the Prophet (peace be upon him) is reported to have said: I implore Allah for forgiveness one hundred rimes every day. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Therefore, you must know O Muhammad and realize with great prudence that there is no deity but Allah. Invoke His forgiveness on your behalf for anything you might have done wrongly and on behalf of the believers among the men and the women whose hearts reflect that image of religious and spiritual virtues. Allah is well acquainted with all your activities during daylight and with all your doings when you rest in your homes. ### Bijan Moeinian Know it well that there is none worthy of worship but God. Ask forgiveness for your sins, as well as the sins of the believing men and women. God is watching you in public and in the privacy of your own homes. ### Al-Hilali & Khan So know (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) that, Lâ ilâha illallâh (none has the right to be worshipped but Allâh)[1], and ask forgiveness for your sin, and also for (the sin of) believing men and believing women. And Allâh knows well your moving about, and your place of rest (in your homes). ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Know, therefore, that there is no god but Allah, and ask forgiveness for thy fault, and for the men and women who believe: for Allah knows how ye move about and how ye dwell in your homes. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran So, know ˹well, O  Prophet,˺ that there is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Allah. And seek forgiveness for your shortcomings[1] and for ˹the sins of˺ the believing men and women. For Allah ˹fully˺ knows your movements and places of rest ˹O people˺. ### Taqi Usmani So, be assured that there is no god but Allah, and seek forgiveness for your fault, and for (the faults of) the believing men and believing women. And Allah knows your moving from place to place and your permanent abode. ### Abdul Haleem So [Prophet], bear in mind that there is no god but God, and ask forgiveness for your sins and for the sins of believing men and women.
