Surah Muhammad (Muhammad) — سورة محمد - **Verse:** 14 / 38 · **Juz:** 26 · **Mushaf page:** 507 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-muhammad/verse-14 ## Arabic اَفَمَنْ كَانَ عَلٰى بَيِّنَةٍ مِنْ رَبِّه۪ كَمَنْ زُيِّنَ لَهُ سُٓوءُ عَمَلِه۪ وَاتَّبَعُٓوا اَهْوَٓاءَهُمْ ## Transcription Afaman kana AAala bayyinatinmin rabbihi kaman zuyyina lahu soo-o AAamalihi wattabaAAooahwaahum ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Is someone on a clear path from his Lord like those whose bad actions have been made to seem good to them and who follow their own desires? ### Progressive Muslims Is one who is based on proof from his Lord, as one for whom his evil works have been adorned for him and they followed their desires ### Shabbir Ahmed Is, then, he who lives by an evident Truth from his Lord like the one to whom his disruptive behavior seems pleasing - while such people are but following their own desires? ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation Is then he who is on clear evidence from his Lord — like: him to whom has been made fair the evil of his deeds, and they follow their vain desires? ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation Is he who is based on proof from his Lord, as he for whom his evil works have been adorned for him and they followed their desires? ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament Are those enlightened by their Lord the same as those whose evil works are adorned in their eyes, and they follow their own opinions? ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira Can one who stands on a clear proof from his Lord, be like one enamoured of his evil deeds and follows his inane desires? ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) So is he who is on clear evidence from his Lord like him to whom the evil of his work has been made attractive and they follow their [own] desires? ### Muhammad Asad CAN, THEN, he who takes his stand on a clear evidence from his Sustainer be likened Unto one to whom the evil of his own doings [always] seems goodly, and unto such as would follow but their own lusts? ### Marmaduke Pickthall Is he who relieth on a clear proof from his Lord like those for whom the evil that they do is beautified while they follow their own lusts? ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Then, can he, who is on a Clear Guidance from His Lord, be like him whose evil deeds have been embellished to him, and who pursued their lusts?[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] That is, how is it possible that when the Prophet and his followers have been guided by God to a clear and straight path and they have started following it in the light of full knowledge and vision, they should walk along, with those who are still persisting in their ways of ignorance, who regard their deviation as guidance and their evildoing as a praiseworthy thing, and who judge on the basis of their personal desires, and not by argument as to what is the truth and what is falsehood. Now, neither can the lives of these two groups be alike in this world nor can their end be alike in the Hereafter. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Can he who has acknowledged the truth captivating his heart's ears and his mind's eyes compare with him whose deeds of evil and iniquity allured his mind's eyes and induced him to hug his irreverent conviction to his heart?
