And when Our proofs are recited to him he turns away, waxing proud, as if he heard them not, as if there were in his ears deafness; so give thou him tidings of a painful punishment.

When Our Signs are recited to such a person, he turns away arrogantly as if he had not heard, as if there was a great weight in his ears. So give him news of a painful punishment.
And when Our revelations are recited to him, he turns away arrogantly as if he did not hear them, as if there is a deafness in his ears. So announce to him a painful retribution.
Whenever Our Verses are conveyed to such a purchaser of Hadith, he turns away in arrogance as if he never heard them - as if there were deafness in his ears. So give him the tidings of a painful doom.

To these people who turn from God’s words when recited to them and do not listen to it as though they are deaf, let (Mohammad) them know what a painful punishment is in reserve for them.

But amongst men are those who purchase (pay for) idle tales without knowledge (or meaning), to lead astray men from the path of Allah, and to make a jest of it; for them is shameful woe!
And when Our ayat (Verses or signs) are recited to him, he turns away, waxing proud, as though he did not hear them, as though in his ears were obstruction. So give him (good) tiding (s) of a painful torment.
