Surah Luqman (Luqman) — سورة لقمان - **Verse:** 21 / 34 · **Juz:** 21 · **Mushaf page:** 412 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-luqman/verse-21 ## Arabic وَاِذَا ق۪يلَ لَهُمُ اتَّبِعُوا مَٓا اَنْزَلَ اللّٰهُ قَالُوا بَلْ نَتَّبِعُ مَا وَجَدْنَا عَلَيْهِ اٰبَٓاءَنَاۜ اَوَلَوْ كَانَ الشَّيْطَانُ يَدْعُوهُمْ اِلٰى عَذَابِ السَّع۪يرِ ## Transcription Wa-itha qeela lahumu ittabiAAoo maanzala Allahu qaloo bal nattabiAAu ma wajadnaAAalayhi abaana awa law kana ashshaytanuyadAAoohum ila AAathabi assaAAeer ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley When they are told: ‘Follow what Allah has sent down, ’ they say, ‘No, we will follow what we found our fathers doing. ’ What! Even if Shaytan is calling them to the punishment of the Blazing Fire? ### Progressive Muslims And if they are told: "Follow that which God has sent down. " They Say: "No, we will follow what we found our fathers doing." What if the devil had been leading them to the agony of Hell ### Shabbir Ahmed And when such people are told to follow what Allah has revealed, they say, "Nay, we follow that which we have found our fathers doing. " Even if Satan was inviting them to the punishment of the Blaze? ### Muhammad Asad and when such [people] are told to follow that which God has bestowed from on high, they answer, "Nay, we shall follow that which we found our forefathers believing in and doing!" Why - [would you follow your forefathers] even if Satan had invited them unto the suffering of the blazing flame? ### Marmaduke Pickthall And if it be said unto them: Follow that which Allah hath revealed, they say: Nay, but we follow that wherein we found our fathers. What! A great pity, even if AL-Shaytan is leading them by the nose to the gates of Hell wherein they suffer the torment laid upon the damned. ### Bijan Moeinian When these people are asked to follow what God has revealed, they say: "We will follow only whatever our forefathers were following [no matter if they were wrong or right!] What kind of reasoning is this? Will they followed Satan, even if he calls them to end up in the raging Fire? ### Al-Hilali & Khan And when it is said to them: "Follow that which Allâh has sent down", they say: "Nay, we shall follow that which we found our fathers (following)."
