Surah Luqman (Luqman) — سورة لقمان - **Verse:** 20 / 34 · **Juz:** 21 · **Mushaf page:** 412 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-luqman/verse-20 ## Arabic اَلَمْ تَرَوْا اَنَّ اللّٰهَ سَخَّرَ لَكُمْ مَا فِي السَّمٰوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْاَرْضِ وَاَسْبَغَ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعَمَهُ ظَاهِرَةً وَبَاطِنَةًۜ وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يُجَادِلُ فِي اللّٰهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَلَا هُدًى وَلَا كِتَابٍ مُن۪يرٍ ## Transcription Alam taraw anna Allaha sakhkharalakum ma fee assamawati wamafee al-ardi waasbagha AAalaykum niAAamahu thahiratanwabatinatan wamina annasi man yujadilufee Allahi bighayri AAilmin wala hudan walakitabin muneer ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Do you not see that Allah has subjected to you everything in the heavens and earth and has showered His blessings upon you, both outwardly and inwardly? Yet there are people who argue about Allah without knowledge or guidance or any illuminating Book. ### Progressive Muslims Did you not see that God has committed in your service everything in the heavens and the Earth, and He has showered you with His blessings, both apparent and hidden Yet from the people are some who argue about God without knowledge, without guidance, and without an enlightening Scripture. ### Shabbir Ahmed (This was some of the wisdom Luqman was endowed with. ) Do you not realize that Allah has made of service to you all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth? And He has lavished upon you His Blessings, tangible and intangible. Yet of mankind is he who disputeth concerning Allah, without knowledge or guidance or a scripture giving light. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Have you not seen that Allah has subjected to your service all that is in the heavens[1] and on the earth and has abundantly bestowed upon you all His bounties, both visible and invisible?[2] Yet some persons dispute regarding Allah[3] without having any knowledge or guidance or any illuminating Book.[4] _Footnotes_ - [1] "Apparent favors" imply those favors which are perceived by man in one way or the other, or are known to him. And the “hidden favors” are those which are neither perceived by him nor are known to him. There are countless things in man’s own body and in the world outside him, which are working in his interest, but man is utterly unaware of the means which his Creator has provided for his protection and safety, for his development and provision of sustenance to him, and for his well-being and happiness. Research of man in the different branches of science is revealing many such favors of God as were hidden from him before. And the favors and blessings which have so far been revealed are insignificant as against those which are still hidden from man. - [2] "Who disputes about Allah": Who wrangle and dispute about questions such as these: Does Allah exist or not? Is He One God alone, or are there other gods also? What are His attributes and what is their nature? What is the nature of His relationship with His creations etc.? - [3] That is, they neither have any means of knowledge by which they might themselves have observed or experienced the reality directly, nor do they have the guidance of a guide available to them, who might have guided them after observing the reality, nor do they possess a divine Book, which might be the basis of their belief. - [4] That is, it is not at all necessary that the forefathers of every person and every family and nation should have been on the right path. The mere argument that a particular way of life had been bequeathed by the elders cannot be a proof of its being right also. No sane person can commit the folly that he should blindly go on following the way of his forefathers even if they were not rightly guided, and should never bother to find out where the way is leading him. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Do you people not see that Allah has subjected to you the heavens and the earth and reduced them to a state of subservience to your advantage and He made all grace abound in you, the seen or unseen! Yet among people are those who argue about Allah in ignorance and for want of thought, want of guidance and by want of a Book imparting divine knowledge wisdom and spiritual light. ### Bijan Moeinian Do you not see that God has put at your disposal whatever is in the earth and the heavens? Do you not see that God has showered you with visible and invisible favors? What a shame that there are some people who argue about [the existence or characteristics of] God without having any knowledge and background about this subject. ### Al-Hilali & Khan See you not (O men) that Allâh has subjected for you whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth, and has completed and perfected His Graces upon you, (both) apparent (i.e. Islâmic Monotheism, and the lawful pleasures of this world, including health, good looks, etc.) and hidden [i.e. One’s Faith in Allâh (of Islâmic Monotheism) knowledge, wisdom, guidance for doing righteous deeds, and also the pleasures and delights of the Hereafter in Paradise]? Yet of mankind is he who disputes about Allâh without knowledge or guidance or a Book giving light! ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Do ye not see that Allah has subjected to your (use) all things in the heavens and on earth, and has made his bounties flow to you in exceeding measure, (both) seen and unseen? Allahı zülcelal sizin için Göklerdekini ve Yerdekini müsahhar kılmış, üzerinize zahiren ve batınen ni'metlerini ifaza buyurmakta, bununla beraber nas içinde kimisi de var ki ne bir ılme, ne bir mürşide ne de tenvir eder bir kitaba istinad etmeksizin Allah hakkında mücadele ediyor ### Elmalılı (sadeleştirilmiş) Görmediniz mi Allah zülcelal göklerde ve yerde ne varsa, hepsini sizin emrinize vermiş, açık ve gizli olarak nimetlerini üzerinize yağdırmaktadır. Bununla beraber insanlar içinde kimi de var ki, ne bir ilme, ne bir mürşide, ne de aydınlatıcı bir kitaba dayanmaksızın Allah hakkında mücadele ediyor. ### Gültekin Onan Görmüyor musunuz ki, şüphesiz Tanrı, göklerde ve yerde olanları emrinize amade kılmış, açık ve gizli sizin üzerinizdeki nimetlerini genişletip tamamlamıştır. (Buna rağmen) insanlardan öyleleri vardır ki, hiç bir ilme dayanmadan, bir yol gösterici ve aydınlatıcı bir kitap olmadan Tanrı hakkında mücadele edip durur. ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim Göklerde ne var, yerde ne varsa hepsini Allahın, muhakkak sizin için müsahhar kıldığını, açık ve gizli bir çok ni'metlerini sizin üzerinizde bol bol tamamladığını görmediniz mi? İnsanlar içinde — hiçbir ilmi, hiçbir rehberi ve tenvir edici hiçbir kitabı yokken — haala Allah hakkında mücadele eden kimseler vardır. ### İbni Kesir Görmez misiniz ki; Allah, göklerde olanları da, yerde olanları da size müsahhar kılmıştır. Gizli ve açık olarak nimetlerini size bolca vermiştir.
