Surah Luqman (Luqman) — سورة لقمان - **Verse:** 15 / 34 · **Juz:** 21 · **Mushaf page:** 411 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-luqman/verse-15 ## Arabic وَاِنْ جَاهَدَاكَ عَلٰٓى اَنْ تُشْرِكَ ب۪ي مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِه۪ عِلْمٌ فَلَا تُطِعْهُمَا وَصَاحِبْهُمَا فِي الدُّنْيَا مَعْرُوفاًۘ وَاتَّبِعْ سَب۪يلَ مَنْ اَنَابَ اِلَيَّۚ ثُمَّ اِلَيَّ مَرْجِعُكُمْ فَاُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ ## Transcription Wa-in jahadaka AAala antushrika bee ma laysa laka bihi AAilmun fala tutiAAhumawasahibhuma fee addunya maAAroofanwattabiAA sabeela man anaba ilayya thumma ilayyamarjiAAukum faonabbi-okum bima kuntum taAAmaloon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley But if they try to make you associate something with Me about which you have no knowledge, do not obey them. Keep company with them correctly and courteously in this world but follow the Way of him who turns to Me. Then you will return to Me and I will inform you about the things you did.’ ### Progressive Muslims If they strive to make you set up any partners besides Me, then do not obey them. But continue to treat them amicably in this world. You shall follow only the path of those who have sought Me. Ultimately, you all return to Me, then I will inform you of everything you have done. ### Shabbir Ahmed "Yet, if they strive to make you ascribe partners to Me, that shall be obviously contrary to what you have learned - then obey them not. Then unto Me will be your return, and I shall tell you what ye used to do - ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary But if they press you to associate others with Me in My Divinity, (to associate) those regarding whom you have no knowledge[1] (that they are My associates), do not obey them. And yet treat them well in this world, and follow the way of him who turns to Me in devotion. "But keep friends with them in life and maintain the friendly feeling and disposition and let it be felt in equity". "And tread the path of those who turn to Allah and in Him they trust, and in the end, to Me shall all of you return when I will inform you of all that you did." ### Bijan Moeinian The only time that you should not obey your parents is when they ask you to worship the others beside God. In such a case, be kind to them but follow the path of those who have submitted themselves to their Lord. Know that you will eventually return to Me and [you do not want to beembarrassed when] I will inform you of what you have been doing with your life. ### Al-Hilali & Khan But if they (both) strive with you to make you join in worship with Me others that of which you have no knowledge, then obey them not; but behave with them in the world kindly, and follow the path of him who turns to Me in repentance and in obedience. But (in spiritual matters) follow the way of one who turns to Me (in obedience and repentance).
