Surah Ibrahim (Abraham) — سورة ابراهيم - **Verse:** 33 / 52 · **Juz:** 13 · **Mushaf page:** 258 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-ibrahim/verse-33 ## Arabic وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمُ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ دَٓائِبَيْنِۚ وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمُ الَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَۚ ## Transcription Wasakhkhara lakumu ashshamsa walqamarada-ibayni wasakhkhara lakumu allayla wannahar ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley and He has made the sun and moon subservient to you holding steady to their courses, and He has made the night and day subservient to you. ### Progressive Muslims And He committed for you the sun and the moon, both in continuity; and He committed for you the night and the day. ### Shabbir Ahmed And makes the sun and the moon, both of them constant on their courses. So much so that some of them interpret these verses to mean that the main aim of the life of man is to bring the earth and heavens under his subjection, whereas their real meaning is “the earth and heavens are subjected to certain laws and they serve you under these laws.” As a matter of fact Allah has subjected all these things to such laws as are beneficial for man. Had not a ship been subjected to certain physical laws, there could have been no navigation at all. Had not a river been subjected to certain laws, it could not have been possible to take out canals from them. Likewise if the heavenly bodies (the sun and the moon, etc.) and the earth and day and night had not been subjected to certain fixed laws, life could not have been possible, not to speak of civilized life ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab He reduced for you the sun* and the moon** to a state of subserviency, constantly describing their paths and the night and the day were not made to rule but to subserve you where wisdom bears command ### Bijan Moeinian God is the One Who has made the sun and the moon (which constantly follow their paths) of service to you.
