Surah Hud (Hud) — سورة هود - **Verse:** 98 / 123 · **Juz:** 12 · **Mushaf page:** 232 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-hud/verse-98 ## Arabic يَقْدُمُ قَوْمَهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيٰمَةِ فَاَوْرَدَهُمُ النَّارَۜ وَبِئْسَ الْوِرْدُ الْمَوْرُودُ ## Transcription Yaqdumu qawmahu yawma alqiyamatifaawradahumu annara wabi/sa alwirdu almawrood ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley He will go ahead of his people on the Day of Rising and lead them down into the Fire. What an evil watering-hole to be led to! ### Progressive Muslims He will be at the head of his people on the Day of Resurrection, and he will lead them to the Fire. What a miserable place they are brought in! ### Shabbir Ahmed Pharaoh will go before his people on the Day of Resurrection, and lead them into the Fire. What a miserable place to land! Ah, hapless is the watering-place (whither they are) led. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary He shall stand at the head of his people on the Day of Resurrection, and will bring them down to the Fire.[1] What a wretched destination to be led to! _Footnotes_ - [1] From this verse and some other narrations of the Quran it appears that the leaders of a community in this world will be its leaders also on the Day of Resurrection. If they guided and led the people towards virtue, righteousness and truth in this world, their followers will gather together under their banner on the Day of Resurrection and march to the Gardens under their leadership. On the other hand, if they called people to some deviation, immorality or unrighteous ways, their followers will follow them there also, and march to the fire of Hell under their leadership. The Prophet (peace be upon him) explained this thing in a tradition: On the Day of Resurrection, the banner of the poets of ignorance will be in the hands of Imra-ul-Quais, and all of them will march towards Hell under his leadership. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab And as he -Pharaoh- lead his people in life below to the maze of error, he shall lead them like cattle to Hell Hereafter; evil indeed is the place they are led to. ### Bijan Moeinian On the Day of Resurrection, He will lead his people all the way to Hell.
