Surah Hud (Hud) — سورة هود - **Verse:** 77 / 123 · **Juz:** 12 · **Mushaf page:** 229 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-hud/verse-77 ## Arabic وَلَمَّا جَٓاءَتْ رُسُلُنَا لُوطاً س۪ٓيءَ بِهِمْ وَضَاقَ بِهِمْ ذَرْعاً وَقَالَ هٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَص۪يبٌ ## Transcription Walamma jaat rusulunalootan see-a bihim wadaqa bihim tharAAan waqalahatha yawmun AAaseeb ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley When Our messengers came to Lut, he was distressed for them, and very concerned for them, and said, ‘This is a dreadful day. ’ ### Progressive Muslims And when Our messengers came to Lot, he was grieved on their account and he felt discomfort for them and said: "This is a distressful day. " ### Shabbir Ahmed When Our Messengers came to Lot he was distressed, and knew not how to save his people. He said: This is a distressful day. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary And when Our messengers came to Lot,[1] he was perturbed by their coming and felt troubled on their account, and said: 'This is a distressing day.[2] _Footnotes_ - [1] Please keep in view (E.Ns 63-68 of Surah Al-Aaraf). - [2] From the tenor of the details of the story as given in the different parts of the Quran, it becomes quite clear that the angels came to Prophet Lot (peace be upon him) in the form of handsome boys and that he was unaware that they were angels. He was troubled and distressed in his mind, for he knew how wicked and shameless his people were. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab When Our Messengers -disguised as youths- went to Lut, he felt grieved at heart -on account of his expectation- that his perverse people would act sinfully in such a circumstance and he just did not know what to do.
