Surah Hud (Hud) — سورة هود - **Verse:** 76 / 123 · **Juz:** 12 · **Mushaf page:** 229 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-hud/verse-76 ## Arabic يَٓا اِبْرٰه۪يمُ اَعْرِضْ عَنْ هٰذَاۚ اِنَّهُ قَدْ جَٓاءَ اَمْرُ رَبِّكَۚ وَاِنَّهُمْ اٰت۪يهِمْ عَذَابٌ غَيْرُ مَرْدُودٍ ## Transcription Ya ibraheemu aAAridAAan hatha innahu qad jaa amru rabbika wa-innahum ateehimAAathabun ghayru mardood ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley ‘Ibrahim, turn away from this! Your Lord’s command has come. A punishment is coming to them which cannot be repelled.’ ### Progressive Muslims O Abraham, turn away from this. Your Lord's command has come, and a retribution that will not be turned back is coming for them. ### Shabbir Ahmed (It was said) O Abraham! Forsake this! Lo! thy Lord's commandment hath gone forth, and lo! there cometh unto them a doom which cannot be repelled. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Thereupon (Our angels) said to him: 'O Abraham! Desist from this, for indeed your Lord's command has come; and a chastisement which cannot be averted[1] is about to befall them.' _Footnotes_ - [1] A superficial view of this incident from the life of Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) in the context it occurs might lead one to consider it to be irrelevant, especially as an introduction to the coming scourge on the people of Lot. But if one reviews this in the light of the object for which these historical events have been related here, one will come to the conclusion that its mention is most apt here. In order to understand its relevancy we should keep in view the following two things: ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab But he was told: " Do not envelop yourself. Ibrahim within the folds of a matter already been decided by Allah; they are destined to suffer a condign punishment no expedient can avert." ### Bijan Moeinian "Abraham, forget about them.
