Surah Hud (Hud) — سورة هود - **Verse:** 61 / 123 · **Juz:** 12 · **Mushaf page:** 227 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-hud/verse-61 ## Arabic وَاِلٰى ثَمُودَ اَخَاهُمْ صَالِحاًۢ قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللّٰهَ مَا لَكُمْ مِنْ اِلٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۜ هُوَ اَنْشَاَكُمْ مِنَ الْاَرْضِ وَاسْتَعْمَرَكُمْ ف۪يهَا فَاسْتَغْفِرُوهُ ثُمَّ تُوبُٓوا اِلَيْهِۜ اِنَّ رَبّ۪ي قَر۪يبٌ مُج۪يبٌ ## Transcription Wa-ila thamooda akhahum salihanqala ya qawmi oAAbudoo Allaha malakum min ilahin ghayruhu huwa anshaakum mina al-ardiwastaAAmarakum feeha fastaghfiroohu thummatooboo ilayhi inna rabbee qareebun mujeeb ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley To Thamud We sent their brother Salih. He said, ‘My people, worship Allah! You have no god apart from Him. He brought you into being from the earth and made you its inhabitants. So ask His forgiveness and then make tawba to Him. My Lord is Close and Quick to Respond.’ ### Progressive Muslims And to Thamud was sent their brother Saleh. He said: "My people, serve God, you have no god besides Him. He established you in the land and gave you control over it, so seek His forgiveness, then repent to Him. My Lord is Near, Responsive." ### Shabbir Ahmed And to the nation of Thamud, We sent their brother Saleh. He said, "O My people! Serve Allah. You have no one worthy of obedience but He. He initiated you from the earth and made you thrive thereon. Come to His forgiveness, then turn to Him in repentance mending your ways. He said, "O my people, worship Allah ; you have no deity other than Him. He has produced you from the earth and settled you in it, so ask forgiveness of Him and then repent to Him. Indeed, my Lord is near and responsive." ### Muhammad Asad AND UNTO [the tribe of] Thamud [We sent] their brother Salih. He said: "O my people! Worship God [alone]: you have no deity other than Him. He brought you into being out of the earth, and made you thrive thereon. Ask Him, therefore, to forgive you your sins, and then turn towards Him in repentance-for, verily, my Sustainer is ever-near, responding [to the call of whoever calls unto Him]!" ### Marmaduke Pickthall And unto (the tribe of) Thamud (We sent) their brother Salih. He said: O my people! Serve Allah, Ye have no other Allah save Him. He brought you forth from the earth and hath made you husband it. So ask forgiveness of Him and turn unto Him repentant. Lo! my Lord is Nigh, Responsive. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary And to Thamud We sent their brother Sali'h.[1] He said: 'My people! Serve Allah; you have no god other than Him. He brought you into being out of the earth, and has made you dwell in it.[2] So ask Him to forgive you, and do turn towards Him in repentance.[3] Indeed My Lord is near, responsive to prayers .[4] _Footnotes_ - [1] Please keep in view (E.Ns 57-62 of Surah Al-Aaraf). - [2] This is the proof of the claim: "You have no other Deity than Allah" .The argument is based on the fact which the mushriks themselves acknowledged that it is Allah Who is their Creator. Therefore Prophet Salih (peace be upon him) argued like this: You yourselves acknowledge that it is Allah Who has created your wonderful human body out of the lifeless particles of the earth and that it is Allah Who has made the earth a suitable place for you to live. How can then there be any Deity other than Allah Who may be worthy of Godhead, service and worship? - [3] That is, so ask His forgiveness for the sin you have been committing by worshiping others. - [4] In this concise sentence, the Quran has refuted a grave misunderstanding of the mushriks, which has in every age misled people into wrong creeds. They presumed that Allah lived far away from them and, therefore, was unapproachable like their own rulers on the earth. As the only way of approach to them was an intercessor who alone could receive and present their requests and applications to their rulers, and convey their answers to them, they presumed that there should be some intercessor to help approach Allah and bring to them the answers to their prayers. Obviously this is a false presumption, which has been endorsed and encouraged by clever people that Allah is out of the reach of common people and it is not possible for them to reach Him and present their prayers and get their answers. So they should search for such sacred beings as may have an approach to Him. Accordingly, they tried to secure the services of those who were well versed in the art of conveying the requests with the necessary presents and gifts to the Highest Authority. This misunderstanding created hosts of intercessors, and the establishment of the system of priesthood, which has so incapacitated the followers of mushrik creeds of ignorance that they cannot perform by themselves any religious ceremony from birth to death. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab We sent also to the people of Thamud -The Thamudites- their brother the Messenger Saleh, who said to them: "O my people worship Allah and adore Him with appropriate acts and rites; You have no Ilah but Him. He raised you from the earth and made it the world you live on. Therefore, invoke His forgiveness and in lowliest plight stand repentant to Him of the way you conduct yourselves in life. Allah, my Creator, is indeed in the immediate proximity of the whole and of all in all and He responds to invocation." ### Bijan Moeinian And to Thamud, I appointed their brother Saleh. He said: "O’ my people, worship the Lord as you do not have any other god beside Him. He raised you from the earth and sustained you therein. Pray for forgiveness from your Lord and repent sincerely; you will find the Lord very close to you and the Most Forgiving. ### Al-Hilali & Khan And to Thamûd (people We sent) their brother Sâlih. He said: "O my people! Worship Allâh: you have no other ilâh (god) but Him. He brought you forth from the earth and settled you therein, then ask forgiveness of Him and turn to Him in repentance. Certainly, my Lord is Near (to all by His Knowledge), Responsive." ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali To the Thamud People (We sent) Salih, one of their own brethren. He said: "O my people! Worship Allah: ye have no other god but Him. It is He Who hath produced you from the earth and settled you therein: then ask forgiveness of Him, and turn to Him (in repentance): for my Lord is (always) near, ready to answer." ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran And to the people of Thamûd We sent their brother Ṣâliḥ. He said, "O my people! Worship Allah. You have no god other than Him. He ˹is the One Who˺ produced you from the earth and settled you on it. So seek His forgiveness and turn to Him in repentance. Surely my Lord is Ever Near, All-Responsive ˹to prayers˺." ### Taqi Usmani And to (the people of) Thamūd (We sent) their brother, SāliH. He said, "O my people, worship Allah. You have no god other than Him. He has created you from earth and made you settle therein. So, seek His forgiveness, then turn to Him in repentance. Surely, my Lord is near, responsive to the prayers." ### Abdul Haleem To the Thamud, We sent their brother, Salih. He said, ‘My people, worship God. You have no god other than Him. It was He who brought you into being from the earth and made you inhabit it, so ask forgiveness from Him, and turn back to Him: my Lord is near, and ready to answer.’ ### Arthur John Arberry And to Thamood their brother Salih; he said, 'O my people, serve God! You have no god other than He. It is He who produced you from the earth and has given you to live therein; so ask forgiveness of Him, then repent to Him; surely my Lord is nigh, and answers prayer. ### E. Henry Palmer And unto Thamud (we sent) their brother Zalih; said he, 'O my people! worship God; ye have no god but Him. He it is that produced you from the earth, and made you live therein! Then ask pardon of Him; then turn again to Him: verily, my Lord is nigh and answers!' ### Hamid S. Aziz They were followed in this world by a curse, and on the Day of Resurrection. Behold! A'ad disbelieved in their Lord! Aye! Removed were A'ad the people of Hud! ### Mahmoud Ghali And to Thamûd (We sent) their brother Salih. He said, "O my people, worship Allah. In no way do you have any god other than He. He is (the One Who) brought you into being from the earth and has made you settle therein. So ask forgiveness of Him; thereafter repent to Him. Surely my Lord is Ever-Near, and Supreme-Answerer." ### George Sale And unto the tribe of Thamud we sent their brother Saleh. He said unto them, O my people, worship God; ye have no God besides Him. It is He who hath produced you out of the earth, and hath given you an habitation therein. Ask pardon of Him therefore, and be turned unto Him; for my Lord is near, and ready to answer. ### Syed Vickar Ahamed And to the Samood (Thamud people, We sent) Sálih, one of their brothers. He said: "O my people! Worship Allah: You have no other god but Him. It is He Who has created you from the earth and settled you in there: Ask then forgiveness from Him, and turn to Him (in repentance): Certainly, my Lord is Near (Khareeb), Responsive (Mujib)." ### Amatul Rahman Omar And to the tribe of Thamûd (We sent as a Messenger) their kinsman Sâlih. He said, `My people! worship Allâh, you have no One worthy of worship other than He. It is He Who brought you forth from the earth and made you dwell therein. So seek protection of Him and turn to Him in repentance. Verily, my Lord is Nigh, Responsive (to prayers).' ### Ali Quli Qarai And to Thamūd [We sent] Ṣāliḥ, their brother. He said, ‘O my people! Worship Allah. You have no other god besides Him. He brought you forth from the earth and made it your habitation. So plead with Him for forgiveness, then turn to Him penitently. My Lord is indeed nearmost [and] responsive.’ ### Ahmed Hulusi — Türkçe Kur'an Çözümü Semud'a kardeşleri Salih'i (irsal ettik). . . Dedi ki: "Ey halkım. . . Allah'a kulluk etmekte olduğunuzun farkındalığına erin! Tanrınız olamaz, sadece "HU"! Sizi arzdan meydana getirdi "HU"; ve sizinle mamur etti orayı. . . Allah'a kulluk ediniz. Sizin O'ndan başka tanrınız yoktur. Sizi topraktan yaratan ve sizi orada yaşatan O'dur. O halde ondan af dileyiniz; sonra da O'na tövbe ediniz. Çünkü Rabbim, kullarına yakındır; duaları kabul edendir." ### Diyanet İşleri — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Meali Semud kavmine de kardeşleri Salih'i peygamber gönderdik. Dedi ki: "Ey kavmim! Allah'a kulluk edin. Sizin O'ndan başka hiçbir ilahınız yok. O, sizi yeryüzünden (topraktan) yarattı ve sizi oranın imarında görevli (ve buna donanımlı) kıldı. Öyle ise O'ndan bağışlanma dileyin; sonra da O'na tövbe edin. Şüphesiz Rabbim yakındır ve dualara cevap verendir. ### Elmalılı Hamdi Yazır — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Yüce Meali Semuda da kardeşleri Salihi gönderdik, dedi: ey kavmim! Allaha kulluk edin sizin ondan başka bir ilahınız daha yok, sizi Arzdan o neş'et ettirdi ve onda ı'mar ve omrana sizi o ıkdar ve me'mur etti, onun için onun mağrifetini isteyin, sonra ona tevbe ile müracaat edin her halde rabbınız, yakındır, mücibdir ### Elmalılı (sadeleştirilmiş) Semud'a da kardeşleri Salih'i gönderdik. O: "Ey kavmim, Allah'a kulluk edin, O'ndan başka bir ilahınız da yoktur. Sizi, yerden O meydana getirdi, yeryüzünde yerleşme ve imar etme gücünü size O verdi; O'nun bağışlamasını isteyin, sonra O'na tevbe edin! Şüphe yok ki, Rabbim yakındır, duaları kabul edendir." dedi. ### Gültekin Onan Semud (halkına da) kardeşleri Salih'i (gönderdik). Dedi ki: "Ey kavmim, Tanrı'ya ibadet edin, sizin O'ndan başka tanrınız yoktur. O sizi yerden (topraktan) yarattı ve onda ömür geçirenler kıldı. Öyleyse O'ndan bağışlanma dileyin, sonra O'na tevbe edin. Şüphesiz benim rabbim, yakın olandır, (duaları) kabul edendir." ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim Semuud'a biraderleri Saalih'i (gönderdik). Dedi ki: "Ey kavmim, Allaha kulluk edin. Sizin Ondan başka hiç bir Tanrınız yokdur. O, sizi toprakdan meydana getirdi, sizi orada ömür geçirmiye (yahud: i'maara) me'mur etdi. O halde Ondan mağfiret isteyin, sonra Ona tevbe edin (hep Ona dönün). Şübhesiz ki Rabbim (in rahmeti) çok yakındır; O, (duaları da) kabul edendir". ### İbni Kesir Semud'a da kardeşleri Salih'i, Ey kavmim; Allah'a kulluk edin, sizin O'ndan başka tanrınız yoktur. O'dur sizi yeryüzünden yaratıp orayı i'mar etmenizi isteyen. Mağfiret dileyin O'ndan, sonra da tevbe edin. Şüphesiz Rabbım, size yakındır, kabul edendir, dedi. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı Semud (toplumuna da) soydaşları Salih'i gönderdik.(Salih onlara:) "Ey kavmim! (Yalnızca) Allah'a kulluk edin!" dedi, "(Çünkü) sizin O'ndan başka tanrınız yok. Sizi topraktan yaratıp geliştiren, orayı bayındır kılmanızı sağlayan O'dur. Bunun içindir ki, artık günahlarınızdan ötürü Rabbinizden bağışlanma dileyin ve sonra da tevbe ve pişmanlık içinde O'na yönelin, çünkü, benim Rabbim, (Kendisine yönelen herkese) her zaman yakınlık gösterir, (dualara) cevap verir!" ### Şaban Piriş — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Anlamı Semud'a kardeşleri Salih'i gönderdik. -Ey halkım, Allah'a kulluk ediniz. Sizin, O'ndan başka bir ilahınız yoktur. Sizi yeryüzünde meydana getiren ve sizin orayı imar etmenizi dileyen O'dur. O halde O'ndan af dileyin. Sonra da O'na yönelin. Kuşkusuz Rabbim, yakındır, dedi. ### Süleyman Ateş — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Yüce Meali Semud(kavmin)e de kardeşleri Salih'i (gönderdik). Dedi ki: "Ey kavmim, Allah'a kulluk edin, O'ndan başka tanrınız yoktur! Sizi yerden inşa eden ve orada yaşatan O'dur; O'ndan mağfiret dileyin, sonra O'na tevbe edin! Çünkü Rabbim yakındır, (du'aları) kabul edendir." ### Yaşar Nuri Öztürk — Kur'an-ı Kerim Meali Semud'a da kardeşleri Salih'i gönderdik. Dedi ki: "Ey toplumum! Allah'a kulluk edin. Sizin O'ndan başka ilahınız yok. Sizi topraktan oluşturan ve size orada ömür geçirten O'dur. Artık O'ndan af dileyin, O'na dönün.
