Surah Hud (Hud) — سورة هود - **Verse:** 40 / 123 · **Juz:** 12 · **Mushaf page:** 225 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-hud/verse-40 ## Arabic حَتّٰٓى اِذَا جَٓاءَ اَمْرُنَا وَفَارَ التَّنُّورُۙ قُلْنَا احْمِلْ ف۪يهَا مِنْ كُلٍّ زَوْجَيْنِ اثْنَيْنِ وَاَهْلَكَ اِلَّا مَنْ سَبَقَ عَلَيْهِ الْقَوْلُ وَمَنْ اٰمَنَۜ وَمَٓا اٰمَنَ مَعَهُٓ اِلَّا قَل۪يلٌ ## Transcription Hatta itha jaaamruna wafara attannooru qulna ihmilfeeha min kullin zawjayni ithnayni waahlaka illaman sabaqa AAalayhi alqawlu waman amana wama amanamaAAahu illa qaleel ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley So when Our command came, and water bubbled up from the earth, We said, ‘Load into it a pair of every species, and your family – except for those against whom the Word was preordained – and all who have iman. ’ But those who had iman with him were only few. ### Progressive Muslims So, when Our command came and the volcano erupted. We said: "Carry in it two of every pair, and your family; except those against whom the word has been issued; and whoever believed." But those who believed with him were few. ### Shabbir Ahmed Thus it was until Our Command came to pass. Water gushed forth in torrents over the face of the land. Torrential rain began and the rivers started over flowing. We commanded Noah to take with him livestock, a couple each, and to take his family and followers with him. The rejecters, of course, were not to embark (Noah's son and wife (11:45), (66:10) did not embark). And but a few were they who believed with him. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary Thus it was until Our command came to pass and the oven boiled over.[1] We said: 'Take into the Ark a pair of every species; and take your own family except those who have already been declared (as unworthy);[2] and also take everyone who believes.[3] But those who, along with him, had believed were indeed just a few. _Footnotes_ - [1] Different interpretations have been given of this, but we are of the opinion that the correct one is the one that is based on the plain words of the text. The deluge started from at-tannur, a particular oven from under which water began to boil up. At the same time heavy rain began to fall and springs began to gush up water from many places in the earth. This is given in detail in( Ayats 11-12 of Surah Al- Qamar): We opened the gates of the sky from which it began to rain heavily and constantly, and We tore open the earth and springs began to gush forth water from every side. Thus the two kinds of water gathered together to fulfill the destined doom. - [2] In this connection, it should also be noted that the prefix al (the) before tannur (oven) shows that a particular oven had been specifically marked by God for the purpose of starting the deluge. This began to boil up water as soon as it was commanded to do so, and afterwards it began to be called the oven. It has been explicitly stated in (Ayat 7 of Surah Al- Mominoon) that the said tannur was specified before hand. - [3] That is, don’t embark in the Ark those who had specifically been marked as unbelievers from your household, for they do not deserve to be shown Our compassion. Most probably they were two persons. One was his son who was drowned (Ayat 43), and the other was his wife. (Surah At-Tahrim, Ayat 10). And if there were any others, they have not been mentioned in the Quran. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab When Our command came to pass and the water bubbled up, rose in billows and erupted through the earth's surface inundating the land, We said to him: Carry with you on board ship a pair -a male and a female- of every kind or living creature (or possibly two pairs of each species) together with your family, except those against whom Allah has already pledged His word, and carry those who acknowledged the truth of your mission, they were but some few. ### Bijan Moeinian When The time approached, the springs began to gush up from the earth (and the heavy rain poured down constantly. ) Then I said: "Take into the Arc a pair from every species, your family members (except the ones who are condemned) and those who have chosen to believe (which were few in number) to join you." ### Al-Hilali & Khan (So it was) till when Our Command came and the oven gushed forth (water like fountains from the earth). Zaten onunla birlikte çok azından başkası inanmamıştı. ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim Nihayet emrimiz gelib de fırın kaynadığı zaman (Nuha) dedik ki: "Her birinden (her bir neviden erkek ve dişi) ikişer çift ile — aleyhinde söz geçmiş (helakleri takdir edilmiş) olanlar müstesna — aileni ve iman edenleri içine yükle". Zaten onun maiyyetindeki az kimselerden başkası da iman etmemişdi. ### İbni Kesir Nihayet buyruğumuz gelip sular kaynamaya başlayınca: Her cinsten birer çifti ve hakkında hüküm verilmiş olanın dışında kalan çoluk çocuğunu ve inananları gemiye al, dedik. Zaten onunla beraber pek az kimse inanmıştı. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı (Bu böylece devam etti) ta ki, hükmümüz vaki olup da yeryüzünde sular taşkınlar halinde kaynayıp coşuncaya kadar. (Nuh'a): "Her cins (hayvandan) birer çift ve haklarında hüküm verilmiş olanları değil, yalnız aileni ve imana erişenleri gemiye bindir!" dedik, çünkü o'nun inancını paylaşanlar zaten küçük bir topluluktu. ### Şaban Piriş — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Anlamı Sonunda emrimiz gelip, yerden sular kaynamağa başlayınca: -Her şeyden ikişer çift aleyhlerinde hüküm verilmiş olan dışında aileni ve iman edenleri ona bindir, dedik. Zaten onunla beraber inanan pek azdı. ### Yaşar Nuri Öztürk — Kur'an-ı Kerim Meali Nihayet emrimiz gelip de tandır kaynayınca şöyle seslendik: "Yükle içine her birinden ikişer çift ve aleyhinde hüküm verilen hariç olmak üzere aileni, bir de iman etmiş olanları." Ama Nuh'la birlikte çok az bir kısmı iman etmişti. ### Mustafa İslamoğlu — Hayat Kitabı Kur’an En nihayet, hükmümüzün vakti gelince tandır kaynadı.
