Surah Hud (Hud) — سورة هود - **Verse:** 27 / 123 · **Juz:** 12 · **Mushaf page:** 223 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-hud/verse-27 ## Arabic فَقَالَ الْمَلَأُ الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ قَوْمِه۪ مَا نَرٰيكَ اِلَّا بَشَراً مِثْلَنَا وَمَا نَرٰيكَ اتَّبَعَكَ اِلَّا الَّذ۪ينَ هُمْ اَرَاذِلُنَا بَادِيَ الرَّأْيِۚ وَمَا نَرٰى لَكُمْ عَلَيْنَا مِنْ فَضْلٍ بَلْ نَظُنُّكُمْ كَاذِب۪ينَ ## Transcription Faqala almalao allatheenakafaroo min qawmihi ma naraka illa basharanmithlana wama naraka ittabaAAaka illaallatheena hum arathiluna badiya arra/yiwama nara lakum AAalayna min fadlinbal nathunnukum kathibeen ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley The ruling circle of those of his people who were kafir said, ‘We do not see you as anything but a human being like ourselves. We do not see anyone following you but the lowest of us, unthinkingly. We do not see you as superior to us. On the contrary, we consider you to be liars.’ ### Progressive Muslims The leaders who rejected from amongst his people said: "We do not see you except as a human like us, and we see that only the lowest amongst our people who have no opinion have followed you. And we do not see anything that makes you better than us; in fact, we think you are liars." ### Shabbir Ahmed But the chiefs of his people, who were the foremost in rejection of the Message, came forward with four objections: We see you but a human being like us. And we see not that any follow you but the obviously lowest caste among us. (17:70). We do not see that you people are in any way superior to us, such as, wealth and property. Nay, we deem all of you liars. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation Then said the eminent ones who disbelieved among his people: “We see thee not but as a mortal like us; and we see not that any follow thee save those who are the abject among us, at first appearance; and we see not in you over us any merit. We see that you do not possess any advantage over us. Indeed, we think you are liars." ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira The leaders of the people who were unbelievers, replied: "We see that you are but a man like us, and see that none among us follows you but the meanest and immature of judgement, and do not see any excellence in you above us. In fact, we think you are a liar." ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) So the eminent among those who disbelieved from his people said, " We do not see you but as a man like ourselves, and we do not see you followed except by those who are the lowest of us [and] at first suggestion. And we do not see in you over us any merit; rather, we think you are liars." ### Muhammad Asad But the great ones among his people, who refused to acknowledge the truth, answered: "We do not see in thee anything but a mortal man like ourselves; and we do not see that any follow thee save those who are quite obviously the most abject among us; and we do not see that you could be in any way superior to us: on the contrary, we think that you are liars!" ### Marmaduke Pickthall The chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved, said: We see thee but a mortal like us, and we see not that any follow thee save the most abject among us, without reflection. We behold in you no merit above us - nay, we deem you liars. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary The notables among Noah's own people, who had refused to follow him, responded: 'We merely consider you a human being like ourselves.[1] Nor do we find among those who follow you except the lowliest of our folk, the men who follow you without any proper reason.[2] We see nothing in you to suggest that you are any better than us.[3] Rather, we believe you to be liars.' _Footnotes_ - [1] The same foolish objection was being raised by the people against the Prophet (peace be upon him). They argued like this: You are a man like us: you eat and drink, you walk and sleep and have a family, and there is nothing in you that might show that you have been sent by God. (See E. N. Surah Yaseen). - [2] The big people of Makkah passed the same remarks about those who followed the Prophet (peace be upon him). They taunted him with things like these: Your followers consist of mere inexperienced boys or slaves or the lowest strata of society, in short, of such people as are credulous and lack commonsense and wisdom. Refer to (E.Ns 34-37 of Surah Al-Anaam) and (E.N. 75 of Surah Yunus). - [3] This is to say, You claim that you are the favored ones of God Whose blessings are on you, and that those who do not follow your way are under His wrath. But the reverse of this is true for it is we who have been favored with wealth, servants and power and you possess nothing of the sort. Please point out anything in which you are superior to us. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab But those of his people in whose hearts reigned vices, follies and falsehood said to him: "It is evident that you are no more than a mortal like the rest of us and we do not see that your cause has been espoused but by the abject among us who are deficient in sense and intelligence. Nor do we see that you people are merited with such an attribute distinguishing you or conferring on you an air of distinction; to the contrary we think you are liars". ### Bijan Moeinian The leaders of the disbelievers responded: "You are a human being like us; your followers are bunch of low life people; you do not have my superiority; therefore, you are nothing but a bunch of liars. " ### Al-Hilali & Khan The chiefs who disbelieved among his people said: "We see you but a man like ourselves, nor do we see any follow you but the meanest among us and they (too) followed you without thinking. And we do not see in you any merit above us, in fact we think you are liars." ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali But the chiefs of the Unbelievers among his people said: "We see (in) thee nothing but a man like ourselves: Nor do we see that any follow thee but the meanest among us, in judgment immature: Nor do we see in you (all) any merit above us: in fact we think ye are liars!" ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran The disbelieving chiefs of his people said, "We see you only as a human being like ourselves, and we see that no one follows you except the lowliest among us, who do so ˹hastily˺ without thinking.[1] We do not see anything that makes ˹all of˺ you any better than us. In fact, we think you are liars." ### Taqi Usmani So the chiefs of his people who disbelieved replied, "We are not seeing that you are anything more than a man like us, and we are not seeing that any people have followed you except those who are the meanest among us, and we have not seen in you people any superiority over us; rather, we believe that you are liars." ### Abdul Haleem But the prominent disbelievers among his people said, ‘We can see that you are nothing but a mortal like ourselves, and it is clear to see that only the vilest among us follow you. We cannot see how you are any better than we are. In fact, we think you are a liar.’ ### Arthur John Arberry Said the Council of the unbelievers of his people, 'We see thee not other than a mortal like ourselves, and we see no? any following thee but the vilest of us, inconsiderately. We do not see you have over us any superiority; no, rather we think you are liars.' ### E. Henry Palmer But the chiefs of those who misbelieved amongst his people said, 'We only see in thee a mortal like ourselves; nor do we see that any follow thee except the reprobates amongst us by a rash judgment; nor do we see that you have any preference over us; nay more, we think you liars!' ### Hamid S. Aziz That you should not worship any save Allah. Verily, I fear for you the torment of the grievous Day." ### Mahmoud Ghali So, the chiefs of the ones who disbelieved of his people said, "In no way do we see you except a mortal like ourselves, and in no way do we see that anyone has closely followed you except the ones who are the most decrepit of us, inconsiderately (i. e., without considering; literally: readily declared opinion). And in no way do we see you have over us any grace (Superiority) No indeed, we expect that you are liars." ### George Sale But the chiefs of his people, who believed not, answered, we see thee to be no other than a man, like unto us; and we do not see that any follow thee, except those who are the most abject among us, who have believed on thee by a rash judgment; neither do we perceive any excellence in you above us: But we esteem you to be liars. ### Syed Vickar Ahamed But the chiefs of the disbelievers from his people said: "We see (in) you only a man like ourselves: Nor do we see that any follow you except the lowest from us, (those who are) immature in judgment: Nor do we see in (all of) you any merit above us: In fact, we think you are all liars!" ### Amatul Rahman Omar Thereupon the chiefs of his people who had disbelieved said, `We find you but a human being like ourselves, and we find none have followed you except those who are the meanest of us, having only superficial views. And we find you (and your followers) possessing no superiority over us. Rather we take you all to be liars.' ### Ali Quli Qarai But the elite of the faithless from among his people said, ‘We do not see you to be anything but a human being like ourselves, and we do not see anyone following you except those who are simpleminded riffraff from our midst. Nor do we see that you have any merit over us. Basıyt ve zaahiri bir görüşle (uyan) en aşağı tabakalarımızdan başkasının sana tabi olduğunu da görmüyoruz. Sizin bize karşı bir üstünlüğünüzü dahi görmüyoruz. Biz sizi bil'akis yalancılar sanıyoruz" dedi (ler). ### İbni Kesir Bunun üzerine kavminden küfredenlerin elebaşları dediler ki: Biz, senin ancak kendimiz gibi bir insan olduğunu görüyoruz. İçimizde sadece ayak takımının, başlangıçta düşünmeden sana uydukları gözümüzün önündedir. Sizin bize üstün bir meziyyetinizi görmüyoruz. Aksine biz, sizi yalancılar sanıyoruz. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı Kavminden hakkı kabule yanaşmayanların ileri gelenleri: "Biz senin kişiliğinde bizim gibi ölümlü bir insandan başka bir şey görmüyoruz" dediler, "üstelik, hemen ilk bakışta, içimizde, aşağı tabakadan bir takım (dar görüşlü) insanların dışında kimsenin seni izlediğini de görmüyoruz; dolayısıyla, bize karşı bir üstünlüğünüz olduğu görüşünde değiliz; tersine, yalancı kimseler olduğunuzu sanıyoruz!" ### Şaban Piriş — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Anlamı Halkının ileri gelen kafir takımı: -Biz, senin sadece bizim gibi bir insan olduğunu görüyoruz.
