Surah Hud (Hud) — سورة هود - **Verse:** 21 / 123 · **Juz:** 12 · **Mushaf page:** 223 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-hud/verse-21 ## Arabic اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ الَّذ۪ينَ خَسِرُٓوا اَنْفُسَهُمْ وَضَلَّ عَنْهُمْ مَا كَانُوا يَفْتَرُونَ ## Transcription Ola-ika allatheena khasirooanfusahum wadalla AAanhum ma kanoo yaftaroon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley Those are the people who have lost their own selves. What they invented has abandoned them. ### Progressive Muslims They are the ones who lost themselves, and what they had invented has abandoned them. ### Shabbir Ahmed Such are those who have lost their "Self", and all their false imagery, their invented dogmas and idols will leave them in the lurch. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation Those are they who have lost their souls, and strayed from them is what they invented. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation They are the ones who have lost their souls, and what they had invented has abandoned them. ### Rashad Khalifa — The Final Testament These are the ones who lose their souls, and the idols they had fabricated will disown them. ### Mohamed Ahmed - Samira They are verily those who exceeded themselves, and the (gods) they invented abandoned them. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) Those are the ones who will have lost themselves, and lost from them is what they used to invent. ### Muhammad Asad It is they who have squandered their own selves-for [on the Day of Resurrection] all their false imagery will have forsaken them: ### Marmaduke Pickthall Such are they who have lost their souls, and that which they used to invent hath failed them. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary They caused utter loss to themselves, and all that they had invented failed them.[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] All their conjectures regarding God, the universe and their own selves will prove to be absolutely baseless in the next life. Similarly, the notions they entertained about the help and support they would receive from those they considered to be either their deities, or their intercessors with God, or their patrons will prove to be false. Likewise, it will become obvious that all their notions about the Afterlife were utterly untrue. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab These are they who have lost their own souls and have been forsaken and renounced by those whom they presumed to share with Allah His divine nature, who failed their expectation. ### Bijan Moeinian They are those who wronged their soul and their inventions (false theories, false gods, etc. ) will be destroyed with them. ### Al-Hilali & Khan They are those who have lost their ownselves, and their invented false deities will vanish from them. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali They are the ones who have lost their own souls: and the (fancies) they invented have left them in the lurch! ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran It is they who have ruined themselves, and whatever ˹gods˺ they fabricated will fail them. ### Taqi Usmani Those are the ones who brought loss to their own selves, and all that they used to fabricate vanished from them. ### Abdul Haleem It is they who will have lost their souls, and what they invented will have deserted them. ### Arthur John Arberry Those are they that have lost their souls, and that they forged has gone astray from them; ### E.
