Surah Hud (Hud) — سورة هود - **Verse:** 16 / 123 · **Juz:** 12 · **Mushaf page:** 222 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-hud/verse-16 ## Arabic اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ الَّذ۪ينَ لَيْسَ لَهُمْ فِي الْاٰخِرَةِ اِلَّا النَّارُۘ وَحَبِطَ مَا صَنَعُوا ف۪يهَا وَبَاطِلٌ مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ ## Transcription Ola-ika allatheena laysa lahumfee al-akhirati illa annaru wahabitama sanaAAoo feeha wabatilun makanoo yaAAmaloon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley But such people will have nothing in the akhira but the Fire. What they achieved here will come to nothing. What they did will prove to be null and void. ### Progressive Muslims These will have nothing but fire in the Hereafter, and what they have done will be put-down, and evil is what they have worked. ### Shabbir Ahmed But (since they did not invest in the life to come), for them is nothing but Fire in the Hereafter. All that they have contrived here is vain, and worthless is all that they did. And lost is what they did therein, and worthless is what they used to do. ### Muhammad Asad [yet] it is they who, in the life to come, shall have nothing but the fire -for in vain shall be all that they wrought in this [world], and worthless all that they ever did! ### Marmaduke Pickthall Those are they for whom is naught in the Hereafter save the Fire. (All) that they contrive here is vain and (all) that they are wont to do is fruitless. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary They are the ones who shall have nothing in the Hereafter except Fire.[1] (There they shall come to know) that their deeds in the world have come to naught; and that whatever they have done is absolutely useless. _Footnotes_ - [1] This is a clear and stern warning to the worshipers of the world. They should know that they will get the full reward for the exertions (whatever they be) they put forth in order to acquire the worldly gains but they should note it well that they would get nothing in the next world. As they confined their efforts to the benefits of this world, and did nothing to earn the benefits of the next world, they should expect nothing for the deeds they have done for the material gains of this world. In order to illustrate this, let us take the case of a person who desires to build a palace for himself in this world and adopts all those devices, measures and means which help build such a palace. Most surely, he will succeed in building a grand palace, for no brick will refuse to stick to its place simply because he was an unbeliever. But it is equally obvious that he shall have to leave behind in this world that grand palace along with all its furnishings as soon as he breathes his last breath. For there is no reason why the palace he had built (or done anything else) for this world, should be credited to him in the next world, if he had done nothing to provide himself with a palace in the next world. For only those who provide for themselves with the necessary material for a palace in the next world in accordance with the divine law, deserve to get a palace there. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab But such persons are those who shall be denied Allah's mercy Hereafter, and Hell is where they make abode. Their hopes shall be doomed to disappointment and their deeds to worthlessness, and vain indeed and useless, unprofitable and unavailing shall be all their worldly deeds ### Bijan Moeinian However, they should know that, nothing but the Fire is waiting for them in the Hereafter; their deeds are nullified and whatever they do [is worldly oriented and therefore] will be worthless. ### Al-Hilali & Khan They are those for whom there is nothing in the Hereafter but Fire, and vain are the deeds they did therein.
