Surah Hud (Hud) — سورة هود - **Verse:** 109 / 123 · **Juz:** 12 · **Mushaf page:** 233 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-hud/verse-109 ## Arabic فَلَا تَكُ ف۪ي مِرْيَةٍ مِمَّا يَعْبُدُ هٰٓؤُ۬لَٓاءِۜ مَا يَعْبُدُونَ اِلَّا كَمَا يَعْبُدُ اٰبَٓاؤُ۬هُمْ مِنْ قَبْلُۜ وَاِنَّا لَمُوَفُّوهُمْ نَص۪يبَهُمْ غَيْرَ مَنْقُوصٍ۟ ## Transcription Fala taku fee miryatin mimmayaAAbudu haola-i ma yaAAbudoona illakama yaAAbudu abaohum min qablu wa-innalamuwaffoohum naseebahum ghayra manqoos ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley So be in no doubt about what these people worship. They only worship as their forebears worshipped previously. We will pay them their portion in full, with no rebate! ### Progressive Muslims So do not be in doubt as to what these men serve. They serve nothing but what their fathers before them served. We will give them their recompense in full. ### Shabbir Ahmed Be not in doubt about the outcome of those who worship idols in any form. They only blindly follow their forefathers. They and their forefathers will get their due portion according to Our Law of Requital. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation So be thou not in doubt concerning what these serve: they serve only as their fathers served before; and We will pay them in full their portion without reduction. ### The Monotheist Group — The Quran: A Monotheist Translation So do not be in doubt as to what these people serve. We shall verily give them their meed without diminution. ### Sahih International — (Umm Muhammad, Mary Kennedy, Amatullah Bantley) So do not be in doubt, [O Muúammad], as to what these [polytheists] are worshipping. They worship not except as their fathers worshipped before. And indeed, We will give them their share undiminished. ### Muhammad Asad AND SO, [O Prophet,] be not in doubt about anything that those [misguided people] worship: they but [thoughtlessly] worship as their forefathers worshipped aforetime; and, behold, We shall most certainly give them their full due [for whatever good or evil they have earned], without diminishing aught thereof. ### Marmaduke Pickthall So be not thou in doubt concerning that which these (folk) worship. They worship only as their fathers worshipped aforetime. Lo! we shall pay them their whole due unabated. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary [O Prophet!] Have no doubt about what they worship. For they worship what their fathers worshipped before.[1] And (yet) We shall grant them their due portion in full, diminishing of it nothing. _Footnotes_ - [1] It does not mean at all that the Prophet (peace be upon him) had any doubts concerning their deities. Though these words have been addressed to the Prophet (peace be upon him), as a matter of fact they are meant for the common people. What they mean is this: No reasonable person should entertain any presumption that the people who worship the deities must have been convinced of their miraculous powers, otherwise they would not have worshiped them nor offered gifts to them nor invoked their help. The fact of the matter is that their worship, their offerings and their prayers are not based on any knowledge nor any experience nor any real observation, but are the result of blind imitation of their forefathers. The proof of their falsehood is that the deities could not save them when Allah's scourge visited their worshipers who were completely annihilated in spite of them. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab Therefore, do not doubt -O Muhammad- the evil outcome of the system of faith and worship these people the -idolaters- follow. They follow but the same system their fathers have adopted before. We will apportion to them their share of punishment commensurate with their evil deeds, a punishment which shall neither be diminished nor be abated. ### Bijan Moeinian Therefore, do not have any doubt about [the ineffectiveness of] the lords that they worship. They simply blindly follow the footstep of their forefathers. I will give them exactly what they have earned without reducing the least from it. ### Al-Hilali & Khan So be not in doubt (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) as to what these people (pagans and polytheists) worship. They worship nothing but what their fathers worshipped before (them). And verily, We shall repay them in full their portion without diminution. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Be not then in doubt as to what these men worship. They worship nothing but what their fathers worshipped before (them): but verily We shall pay them back (in full) their portion without (the least) abatement. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran So do not be in doubt ˹O Prophet˺ about what those ˹pagans˺ worship. They worship nothing except what their forefathers worshipped before ˹them˺. And We will certainly give them their share ˹of punishment˺ in full, without any reduction. ### Taqi Usmani So, be not in doubt about what they worship. They worship only in the way their fathers used to worship earlier.
