Surah Hud (Hud) — سورة هود - **Verse:** 10 / 123 · **Juz:** 12 · **Mushaf page:** 221 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-hud/verse-10 ## Arabic وَلَئِنْ اَذَقْنَاهُ نَعْمَٓاءَ بَعْدَ ضَرَّٓاءَ مَسَّتْهُ لَيَقُولَنَّ ذَهَبَ السَّيِّـَٔاتُ عَنّ۪يۜ اِنَّهُ لَفَرِحٌ فَخُورٌۙ ## Transcription Wala-in athaqnahu naAAmaabaAAda darraa massat-hu layaqoolanna thahabaassayyi-atu AAannee innahu lafarihunfakhoor ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley but if We let him taste blessings after hardship has afflicted him, he says, ‘My troubles have gone away,’ and he is overjoyed, boastful – ### Progressive Muslims And if We give him the taste of a blessing after hardship had afflicted him, he will Say: "Evil has gone from me!"; he becomes happy, boastful. ### Shabbir Ahmed And if Our Law causes him to taste Blessing after some hardship has visited him, he says, "Gone is all affliction from me!" Behold! " Indeed, he is exultant and boastful - ### Muhammad Asad And thus it is: if We let him taste ease and plenty after hardship has visited him, he is sure to say, "Gone is all affliction from me!"-for, behold, he is given to vain exultation, and glories only in himself. ### Marmaduke Pickthall And if We cause him to taste grace after some misfortune that had befallen him, he saith: The ills have gone from me. Lo! he is exultant, boastful; ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary And if We let him taste favour after harm has touched him, he says: 'All my ills are gone', and he suddenly becomes exultant and boastful,[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] This disgraceful characteristic of man has been mentioned here because the disbelievers were exhibiting it at that time. When the Prophet (peace be upon him) warned them of the consequences of their disobedience to Allah, they would scoff at him as if to say: Are you mad? Can't you see our prosperity and power? We are enjoying all the good things of life and dominating over everything and everyone all around us. How is it that you are prophesying torment for us? ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab And if We reverse the action and grace him with a merited or an unmerited favour following a touch of misfortune, he says: "Now I have been freed of misfortunes", and he rejoices beyond a common joy and he boasts the event and exalts himself unduly and displays inordinate self-esteem. ### Bijan Moeinian If after the hardship, I shower him with My blessings, he will say: "Good bye bad times. " then he shows [excessive] happiness and pride. ### Al-Hilali & Khan But if We let him taste good (favour) after evil (poverty and harm) has touched him, he is sure to say: "Ills have departed from me."
