Surah Ghafir (The Forgiver) — سورة غافر - **Verse:** 47 / 85 · **Juz:** 24 · **Mushaf page:** 471 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-ghafir/verse-47 ## Arabic وَاِذْ يَتَحَٓاجُّونَ فِي النَّارِ فَيَقُولُ الضُّعَفٰٓؤُ۬ا لِلَّذ۪ينَ اسْتَكْـبَرُٓوا اِنَّا كُنَّا لَكُمْ تَبَعاً فَهَلْ اَنْتُمْ مُغْنُونَ عَنَّا نَص۪يباً مِنَ النَّارِ ## Transcription Wa-ith yatahajjoona fee annarifayaqoolu adduAAafao lillatheenaistakbaroo inna kunna lakum tabaAAan fahal antummughnoona AAanna naseeban mina annar ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley When they are squabbling with one another in the Fire, the weak will say to those deemed great, ‘We were your followers, so why do you not relieve us of a portion of the Fire?’ ### Progressive Muslims And when they argue in Hell, the weak will say to those who were arrogant: "We used to be your followers, can you take from us any portion of the Fire" ### Shabbir Ahmed And behold! The weak ones will say to those who waxed proud: "We were your followers. Will you, then, lighten for us a part of our suffering of the Fire?"[1] _Footnotes_ - [1] This they will not say in any hope that their previous guides or rulers or leaders would actually be able to save them from the torment, or would have it reduced. At that time they will have fully realized that those people could not avail them anything there.
