Surah Ghafir (The Forgiver) — سورة غافر - **Verse:** 22 / 85 · **Juz:** 24 · **Mushaf page:** 468 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-ghafir/verse-22 ## Arabic ذٰلِكَ بِاَنَّهُمْ كَانَتْ تَأْت۪يهِمْ رُسُلُهُمْ بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ فَكَفَرُوا فَاَخَذَهُمُ اللّٰهُۜ اِنَّهُ قَوِيٌّ شَد۪يدُ الْعِقَابِ ## Transcription Thalika bi-annahum kanatta/teehim rusuluhum bilbayyinati fakafaroo faakhathahumuAllahu innahu qawiyyun shadeedu alAAiqab ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley That was because their Messengers brought them the Clear Signs but they remained kafir. So Allah seized them. He is Most Strong, Severe in Retribution. ### Progressive Muslims That is because their messengers used to come to them with proofs, but they rejected. Thus God seized them; for He is Mighty, severe in punishment. ### Shabbir Ahmed This - because their Messengers had come to them with all evidence of the Truth, and yet they rejected it. So Allah seized them. Behold, verily, He is Strong, Strict in grasping. ### Sam Gerrans — The Qur'an: A Complete Revelation For it is that their messengers brought them clear signs, but they denied, so God seized them. Indeed, He is Powerful and severe in punishment. ### Muhammad Asad this, because their apostles had come to them with all evidence of the truth, and yet they rejected it: and so God took them to task - for, verily, He is powerful, severe in retribution! ### Marmaduke Pickthall That was because their messengers kept bringing them clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty) but they disbelieved; so Allah seized them. Lo! He is Strong, severe in punishment. ### Abul A'la Maududi — Tafhim commentary They came to this end because their Messengers would come to them with Clear Signs[1] and yet they would refuse to believe. So Allah seized them. He is indeed Strong, Terrible in Retribution. _Footnotes_ - [1] Bayyinat means three things: ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab A penalty imposed on them in the train of their malicious refusal of the clear evidence of His Omnipotence and Authority presented to them by their Messengers, and in conscience did He seize them with a calamity and reduce them into a useless form; He is indeed Omnipotent, He punishes severely. ### Bijan Moeinian Their doom was due to the fact that they did not listen to their Prophets in spite of convincing miracles that they came with. Therefore God punished them. Indeed God is mighty and decisive in punishment. ### Al-Hilali & Khan That was because there came to them their Messengers with clear evidence (proofs and signs) but they disbelieved (in them). So Allâh seized them (with punishment). Verily He is All-Strong, Severe in punishment. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali That was because there came to them their messengers with Clear (Signs), but they rejected them: So Allah called them to account: for He is Full of Strength, Strict in Punishment. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran That was because their messengers used to come to them with clear proofs, but they persisted in disbelief. So Allah seized them. Surely He is All-Powerful, severe in punishment. ### Taqi Usmani That was because messengers used to come to them with clear signs, but they disbelieved. Then, Allah seized them. Surely, He is Strong, severe in punishment. ### Abdul Haleem because messengers repeatedly came to them with clear signs and still they rejected them. God destroyed them: He is truly full of strength, severe in punishment. ### Arthur John Arberry That was because their Messengers came to them with the clear signs; but they disbelieved, so God seized them. Indeed He is all-strong, severe in retribution. ### Ahmed Hulusi — Türkçe Kur'an Çözümü Bunun sebebi şu idi: Rasulleri onlara apaçık delillerle geldi de küfür (inkar) ettiler. . . Bunun üzerine Allah da onları yakaladı. . . Muhakkak ki O, Kaviyy'dir, Şediyd ül 'Ikab'dır (suçu cezalandırması şiddetlidir). ### Ali Bulaç — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Türkçe Anlamı Çünkü gerçekten onlar, Resulleri kendilerine apaçık belgeler getirirdi; fakat onlar inkar ederlerdi. Allah da tuttu kendilerini alıverdi; çünkü O'nun kuvveti çok, cezası çetindir. ### Gültekin Onan Çünkü gerçekten onlar Resulleri kendilerine apaçık belgeler getirirdi; fakat onlar küfrederlerdi. Bu yüzden Tanrı, onları (azabla) yakalayıverdi. Şüphesiz O, kuvvetli olandır, cezalandırması şiddetlidir. ### Hasan Basri Çantay — Kur'an-ı Hakim ve Meal-i Kerim Bunun sebebi şu idi: (Çünkü) peygamberleri kendilerine apaçık mu'cizeler getire dursun, onlar küfretdiler. Allah da kendilerini tutub yakalayıverdi. Çünkü O, herşey'e kaadirdir, azabı pek çetindir. ### İbni Kesir Bu; peygamberleri kendilerine apaçık mucizelerle geldiğinde inkar etmelerindendir. Allah da onları yakalayıverdi. Muhakkak ki O; kuvvetlidir, cezalandırması pek şiddetlidir. ### Muhammed Esed — Kur'an Mesajı Çünkü onlar, elçileri kendilerine hakikatin bütün kanıtlarıyla gelmiş olmalarına rağmen onu reddetmişlerdi, bu yüzden Allah onları hesaba çekti, çünkü Allah güçlüdür, intikamında şiddetlidir. ### Şaban Piriş — Kur'an-ı Kerim Türkçe Anlamı İşte bu, onlara peygamberlerin belgeler getirmesine rağmen, onların kabul etmemelerindendir. Bunun için Allah onları cezalandırmıştır/yakalamıştır. Şüphesiz o güçlü ve şiddetle cezalandırandır. ### Süleyman Ateş — Kur'an-ı Kerim ve Yüce Meali Çünkü onlar (öyle kimselerdi ki) elçileri onlara açık kanıtlar getirirdi ama kabul etmezlerdi. Bu yüzden Allah onları yakaladı. Zira O güçlüdür, cezası çetin olandır. ### Yaşar Nuri Öztürk — Kur'an-ı Kerim Meali Sebep şuydu: Resulleri onlara açık seçik mesajlar getirirdi de onlar inkar ederlerdi. Sonunda Allah hepsini yakaladı. O çok güçlüdür, azabı da şiddetlidir. ### Mustafa İslamoğlu — Hayat Kitabı Kur’an Böyle oldu, çünkü elçileri kendilerine hakikatin apaçık belgeleriyle geldiği halde, onlar inkarda direndiler; bunun üzerine Allah da onları cezalandırdı: Zira O güçlüdür, cezası pek çetindir. ### Erhan Aktaş (Eski Baskı) — Kerim Kur'an Bu, rasuller kendilerine kanıt içeren belgelerle geldikleri halde onu yalanlamaları nedeniyledir. Çünkü elçiler onlara açık kanıtlarla gelmiş olmalarına karşın nankörlük ediyorlardı. Allah, bu yüzden onları yakaladı. Kuşkusuz, O, Kudretlidir; cezası da çok yamandır. ### Süleymaniye Vakfı (Eski Baskı) — Süleymaniye Vakfı Meali Böyle oldu, çünkü elçileri onlara, o açık belgeleri(mucizeleri) getirdiler ama bunlar, görmezlikten geldiler. Allah da onları kıskıvrak yakaladı. Allah güçlüdür, cezası da pek ağır olur. ### Mehmet Okuyan — Kur’an Meal-Tefsir Bunun sebebi, elçileri kendilerine apaçık deliller getirdikleri hâlde inkâr etmeleriydi. Allah da onları yakalamıştı.
