Surah Fussilat (Explained in detail) — سورة فصلت - **Verse:** 7 / 54 · **Juz:** 24 · **Mushaf page:** 476 - **Source:** https://quran.so/surah-fussilat/verse-7 ## Arabic اَلَّذ۪ينَ لَا يُؤْتُونَ الزَّكٰوةَ وَهُمْ بِالْاٰخِرَةِ هُمْ كَافِرُونَ ## Transcription Allatheena la yu/toona azzakatawahum bil-akhirati hum kafiroon ## Translations ### Aisha Bewley those who do not pay zakat and reject the Next World. ### Progressive Muslims "The ones who do not contribute towards betterment, and with regards to the Hereafter, they are disbelievers. " ### Shabbir Ahmed Those who (because of submitting to man-made systems) fail to set up the Just Economic Order of Zakat and thus practically deny (the accountability in) the life to come. Ibn Abbas and his illustrious pupils, Ikrimah and Mujahid, say that zakat here implies the purity of the soul and self which accrues from belief in Tauhid and obedience to Allah. According to this explanation, the translation of the verse would be: Woe to the mushriks, who do not adopt purity. The other group which includes commentators like Qatadah, Suddi, Hasan Basri, Dahhak, Muqatil and Ibn as-Saib take this word here also in the meaning of the zakat on property and wealth. According to this explanation, the verse means: Woe to those who do not fulfill the right of Allah by committing shirk and the right of the men by withholding the zakat. ### Abdel Khalek Himmat — Al- Muntakhab who deny the needy their dutiful alms and refuse to acknowledge the truth of the Hereafter. ### Bijan Moeinian The latter are those who do not pay their charity dues and deny the Hereafter. ### Al-Hilali & Khan Those who give not the Zakât and they are disbelievers in the Hereafter. ### Abdullah Yusuf Ali Those who practise not regular Charity, and who even deny the Hereafter. ### Mustafa Khattab — The Clear Quran those who do not pay alms-tax and are in denial of the Hereafter. ### Taqi Usmani who do not pay Zakāh ; and of the life of the Hereafter, they are deniers." ### Abdul Haleem who do not pay the prescribed alms and refuse to believe in the world to come! ### Arthur John Arberry who pay not the alms, and disbelieve in the world to come. ### E.
